We want to reassure our community that the Animal Emergency Centre Kedron will remain OPEN 24/7 throughout Cyclone Alfred.

Our team is ready to assist with any emergency, and we are fully prepared with a backup generator to ensure continuous care for your pets.

💡 Our staff will be in the building at all times should your pet become unwell or require urgent care. However, please use discretion when deciding whether to visit, based on current government safety recommendations.

💻 If you're unsure whether your pet needs to be seen, we encourage you to use WebVet, available 24/7 for online consultations.

🐾 We are also available to take in injured strays or wildlife in need of urgent care during this time.

🚨 Attention pet owners! 🚨 If your pet’s microchip is registered with HomeSafe ID, it’s time to act! With the registry shutting down, your pet’s chip will no longer be linked to your details. Meaning if they get lost, they may not find their way back to you.

Step 1: Check if your pet’s microchip is registered with HomeSafe ID. Visit www.petaddress.com.au (linked in the bio) and enter your pet’s microchip number.
Step 2: If your pet is registered with HomeSafe ID, transfer their details to another national microchip registry like Central Animal Records.
Step 3: Ensure your pet is always wearing a visible ID tag for extra safety.

This is especially important for pets adopted from the RSPCA 🐾💚

Top tips to a pet safe Christmas:
* Give your pets a place to retreat from the chaos
* Costumes to be worn for short periods and supervised
* Be vigilant of how the heat is affecting your pet
* No humans foods eg ham/fatty foods (can cause pancreatitis), bones, fruit pits, corn cobs (can cause blockage)
* Keep toxic foods like out of reach eg raisins/sultanas/grapes, chocolate, onion, macadamia nuts, xylitol (commonly found in sugar free gum/candies, some peanut butter), alcohol, caffeine, dairy.

HAPPY TAIL: Mouse!

When Mouse first came to see us, he was very reactive. Since then, he has been working with Dr Emma, and his humans are happy to report he can now easily go on walks without issues. He even came into the clinic yesterday for his heartworm injection and was super brave. It makes us reflect back on how far he has come 🥰 (although he still doesn’t like the postman 🤭)

With recent heatwaves and summer heat rising, it’s time to help your pet to help themselves 🥵
It is common for dogs to run around the yard or sunbake despite the heat (they won’t let the heat stop their zoomies or relaxing time!) & they are always up for their favourite walk.

🔥 Please only walk in the cooler parts of the day and shorten the walk if needed. Apart from heat stroke risks, the ground can get very hot without shoes on.
🔥 Don’t leave pets in cars, even for short periods.
🔥 If you suspect your pet is overheated, cool them with a fan/aircon and bring them to the vet. In severe cases, cooling too quickly (eg dousing them with water) can cause adverse reactions.

Introducing our 2 newest vets: Dr Anthea & Dr Dominic 🐾

Dr Dominic graduated in England in 1999 and has achieved a certificate in feline medicine and surgery. He has experience with both large and small animals, general practice and emergency. He has an interests in general practice, Australian wildlife and surgery.

Dr Anthea graduated in 2021 and is a trauma informed pet professional, has a certificate 1 in chronic pain management (WSAVA), completed an internship at a specialist hospital and has special interest in animal behaviour with experience at a behaviour clinic.
