With recent heatwaves and summer heat rising, it’s time to help your pet to help themselves 🥵
It is common for dogs to run around the yard or sunbake despite the heat (they won’t let the heat stop their zoomies or relaxing time!) & they are always up for their favourite walk.

🔥 Please only walk in the cooler parts of the day and shorten the walk if needed. Apart from heat stroke risks, the ground can get very hot without shoes on.
🔥 Don’t leave pets in cars, even for short periods.
🔥 If you suspect your pet is overheated, cool them with a fan/aircon and bring them to the vet. In severe cases, cooling too quickly (eg dousing them with water) can cause adverse reactions.

At Greencross/AEC Kedron we have a vet on site 24/7

Spring has sprung and paralysis ticks have been out in force. Multiple cases have presented at Greencross/AEC Kedron, as well as other vets in the surrounding area.
Now is the time to check your pets tick prevention is up to date.
Don’t forget they can also hitch a ride on
humans… just like the partially fed tick on the left.

These nasty critters can be hard to find at first.
They can be fully fed within a few days (on the right) which is usually when the toxins have caused so much damage that pets end up at the vet for life saving treatment. Unfortunately, treatment is not always effective. Prevention is definitely better than cure.

If you are unsure about preventatives, have a chat with our friendly team 😊

Last week we featured a brushtail possum joey…this week meet ringtail possum twins!

Unlike the brushtail possums, ringtails can have 1 to 2 (even 3!) joeys.

These young leave the pouch after 7 weeks (as opposed to 6mths) and will ride on their mother's back until they are weaned at about 6 months (as opposed to 7-16mths). And both parents take turns in caring for the young.

Ringtails live an average of 6yrs (half the expectancy of brushtails) and are sexually mature from 13 months old.

Yesterday we were very spoilt with lots of puppies coming in for their vaccinations. We managed to snap a few pics of a small percentage of them…. Mostly because we were too pre-occupied with providing cuddles 🥰 🐾

We have had a number of possum joey’s brought in by the community lately, including this cute brushtail🥰
We are so fortunate to be available 24hrs with the help of Animal Emergency Centre Kedron.

These babies receive around-the-clock care until they can be collected and cared for by a trained, registered carer.

Fun facts about brushtail possums:
* They have a single young, born in autumn or spring.
*The joey spends around six months in the pouch, followed by 1-2months riding on its mother's back
* Joeys are then weaned and leave the maternal den at 7-16 months old.
* On average they live about 12 years, becoming sexually mature at two years of age.
