Poodle Club NSW

Poodle Club NSW Non Profit Organization working towards promoting and showcasing Poodles Today fifty five years later the goals of that original small group still stand.

In October 1955 a small group of dedicated Poodle breeders and exhibitors formed “The Poodle Club of New South Wales” to promote and showcase the Poodle. The Club is happy to offer help and information to new and existing Poodle owners. The Poodle Club of NSW Inc. is the “parent” club in New South Wales for the Poodle Breed. It is affiliated with The Royal New South Wales Canine Council (Dogs NSW)

and is a member of The National Poodle Council. The Club conducts two Speciality Championship Shows and one Obedience Trial each year. If possible an overseas specialist judge is used for one of the Shows and an Australian judge for the second. Members of the general public (without their dogs) are welcome to come and watch the activities. The Poodle Club of NSW was instrumental in the re newel of the National Poodle Council and the first National Championship Show was held in Sydney in 1988. Since this time we have hosted two other Nationals in NSW in 2001 and in 2007. Planning has already commenced for the next NSW National in 2013. It is anticipated that Poodles and their owners will come from every state of Australia to take part in this major event. Over the years the Club has held grooming and training days and has participated in Pet Expos and other pet related events. The Obedience members have successfully competed in such events as the Inter Club Obedience Challenge. During the past fifty years, the members of the Club have endeavoured to improve the health of all Poodles. They have embraced the technological changes that have taken place and are using such methods as DNA testing to further improve their breeding stock. It is the commitment (in time, money and research) of responsible breeders to the breeding of healthy Poodles which allows companion, conformation and performance Poodles to enjoy long and happy lives. Plz. Note: Our new website is under development and will be available shortly Some of the goals set by this group for the fledgling specialist club were:

To encourage new Poodle owners to join and participate in club activities. To provide advice to newcomers on rearing their puppies, grooming and
health care. To share advice with those who wished to train and show their Poodles. To mentor those who wished to breed Poodles. To hold shows with classes for conformation and obedience.

General information

Membership of the Club is open to all Poodle owners or Poodle lovers. Your Poodle does not have to be a show (conformation) or obedience (performance) Poodle. The Club welcomes and in fact depends upon some of our pet members to assist in running the trials and shows, training days and manning our stalls at exhibitions. NB: There is no such thing as a Teacup or a Royal Standard Poodle - these are names used in advertising as gimmicks. When other breeds are bred to Poodles the resulting puppies are cross breeds and are not recognised breeds. The Codes of Ethics of both the Poodle Club of NSW and the RNSWCC forbids members using their registered stock with unregistered stock or registered stock of another breed.
