WHY SHOULD YOU DE-SEX YOUR CAT!
It is strongly advised that your cat be desexed around 6 months of age or when it reaches sexual maturity, which can be as early as 4 months of age. This ensures your female cat does not become pregnant and elminates the possibility of males displaying aggression and spraying urine. Desexing around the time your cat is old enough is also associated with positive behavioral changes and health benefits.
NO HEAT CYCLES
Do not be alarmed, a non desexed female cat will come into heat every 2 - 4 weeks all year round. During this time she will become very vocal βscreamβ with persistent moans and cries as she tries to summon a mate. When your female cat begins to do this it is a sign that she is ready to be de-sexed. Just as with humans she will experience mood swings as well. One minute she may be calm and loving while the next she's warding you off with the swat of a paw or running around the house screaming. You should be able to tell when your male cat is ready to de-sex as his genitals will drop and he will likely show aggressive behavior and spray urine.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF DESEXING
Desexing female cats eliminates the chance of developing ovarian or uterine infections or cancer. The risk of developing tumours of the mammary glands is greatly decreased after this procedure as well.
Testosterone is known to weaken a male catβs immune system. Removing the testicles will reduce the level of testosterone in his system, thus strengthening his immune system and decrease his risk of developing testicular cancer. He will also be less territorial, and therefore will not show aggressive behaviour.
DETERS ROAMING
Undesexed cats can endanger their lives wandering around the streets looking for a partner. They are at greater risk of being run over by a car, dog attacks, getting lost or even being abused or stolen by people.
DETERS SPRAYING
Undesexed males (and females) are likely to spray. Cat spray is extremely pungent. Generally females don't sp
