Rossie's vet bill has arrived. Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital WA have certainly supported us in giving Rossie the very best of care. A home visit and then 3 days and 2 nights care in the hospital plus euthanasia under the most kindest circumstances. Total $1,882.74

Rossie's cremation was $335.00 Still waiting on his ashes to be sprinkled with his Mummy Rosie's

Katie's vet bill was also attached $687.06 Again heavily discounted. This included numerous sub cutting visits, a 1am visit, fearing the worst.

After 12 weeks of battling low temperatures, high temperatures, dehydration, diarrhea, prolapses, we have finally turned the corner. She is doing so good.

Also incuded is Karli's vet bill. Karli's tail was found to be pecked by ravens after her Mummy was killed in a hit and run. She will need constant treatment for the next few months as we wait to see if the tip will heal or drop off. Daily bandage changes and monitoring $290.45

Thank you to Peggy. Sam, Claire, Alice and Mt Barker Veterinary Hospital WA for supporting me through this very difficult time. Exhausted but so thankful

Itā€™s been a very tough 4 weeks here at RAPS. We lost Buddha the wonder dog who raised many orphaned lambs and calves with me, being their surrogate big brother and protector, and yesterday we lost Joanie Ponytail; the little lamb that was brought to us 16 months ago as a day old orphan. After much investigation we suspect Pulpy Kidney. Goldie the goat has suspected cancer.
Today is a very sad day.

The Biggest Smiles Hide the Saddest Heart, No One Came for Him

Garth, a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, has been hiding his sadness behind a smile, hoping someone would come for him. Now, with sadness in his eyes, he faces a death sentence he doesnā€™t deserve. He has endured a life of suffering in silence, and his fate is sealed unless someone acts immediately.

In a high-kill shelter, Garthā€™s time is running out. Will you be the one to show him the love and care he has never known?"

We rescued a couple of years ago, circumstances have changed and we need to move them on. We would rather they didnt get put down, but it does look like it may have to happen.
Neither have been ridden and Unsure if able too.
Free, must go together as been together their whole lives.

Every rescue you do, you can feel your heart dying just a little bit more.

Your emotions are so exposed to vulnerability and your eyes have seen deep into the souls of the suffering and scared.

My disdain towards the human race is becoming prevalent every single day.
I cannot understand, with their lack of empathy, how they can function.
How are they not affected by the guilt?

I know, that when I commit to this animal, there is a high probability, I am going to end its life.
I am going to be confronted with an animal, that so desperately wants to live.
An animal that doesnā€™t understand, why itā€™s body is broken and cannot move.
Why it cannot get away from me, the predator.
It doesnā€™t understand that I am there to help.
To end the suffering.
To take away the pain.
It doesnā€™t understand any of that.
Itā€™s not supposed to.

I ask myself constantly, is this journey for me?
Can I keep exposing myself to this hurt.
This pain.
This feeling of helplessness.
Feeling so consumed, of Raw emotion.
Knowing already too well, these feelings will never go.
Is this something that I can walk away from.
Turn my back on.

No. Itā€™s not.

I will learn to balance.
I need to learn, to read the signs.
Read what my body is telling me.
Understand that itā€™s ok to pick myself up, to be strong again.
For them.
For I am of no use when I cannot help them.

They have your heart.
Their innocent eyes look into yours and they have you completely.

I donā€™t do this for praise or thanks.
I donā€™t do this because it makes me feel good.
I donā€™t do this for the glory.

I do this because I can.

Ellie update: doing so much better. Drank her bottle last night and is grazing gently on her grain. She is back to being the wonderful lovey, cuddly kissy girl she was. I am so thankful she is OK now.

Last week when I went into the pen with bottles for the three little ones, Ellie was not well. she was doing some funny kind of wobbles. We were not sure what was going on...neurological? gastrointestinal? She refused her bottle and stopped eating. We treated her for both just to be sure, but no improvement by Friday we went to the vet...no answers there. She improved slightly over the weekend eating browse, still refusing her bottles and grain, and stretching her neck a lot...did she injure her neck?
A trip to the amazing and wonderful Dr Shey at Nullakai Vet Service this morning and after looking at the video she said she is choking. It appears some grain got stuck and as she was in bed it didn't dislodge. As it went down it must have scarred her throat and oesophagus. She is now eating a little browse, but still not interested in her bottle or grain. Here she is coming home after her vet visit...Mummy is breathing a sigh of relief.

A woman made a gruesome discovery of a pigā€™s ni**le still attached to the bacon that she was about to cook for her breakfast.

Itā€™s easy to forget that processed, cut-up, meat is really the decaying flesh of another being who was once alive and did not want to die.

RAPS

Riverway Animal Protection Sanctuary was founded due to an increasing need for support for abandoned and orphaned animals. We are a rescue sanctuary for native and domestic animals, providing care, treatment and rehabilitation for the sick, injured and abused. It is our goal to re-home domestic animals and release native animals, once they have been nursed back to full health.

Riverway Animal Protection Sanctuary (RAPS) is the only Registered Not for Profit Animal Sanctuary, in the beautiful Southern Forest Region, with Chalet Accommodation on site.
