3 DAY
Bovine ephemeral fever
Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) is a disease that affects cattle and occasionally buffaloes and is marked by a short fever, shivering, lameness and muscular stiffness. Also commonly known as 3 day sickness, BEF is an arthropod-borne virus (most likely mosquitoes) and widespread in Queensland.

The disease may cause serious economic losses through deaths, decline in condition, decreased milk production, lowered fertility in bulls, occasional abortions and delays in marketing.

You can vaccinate against this by using the BEF vaccine. For further information, please contact the team.

Introducing

Kenilworth Veterinary Surgery is delighted to welcome Dr Tom Mangan to our team, bringing with him over two decades of veterinary expertise from both international and Australian settings.

Dr. Mangan, who previously owned and operated his own veterinary practice in Hong Kong for more than 20years, has returned to Australian shores to serve the Kenilworth community.

“Having started my career working with dairy farmers in Victoria, it feels like coming full circle to be back in rural setting,” says Dr. Mangan. “The agriculture community has always held a special place in my heart.”

During his time in Hong Kong, Dr. Mangan developed specialised skills in veterinary ultrasound diagnostics, adding to his comprehensive suite of veterinary services. This expertise will be particularly valuable for companion animal care in the Kenilworth region.

His decision to join Kenilworth Veterinary surgery was influenced by his desire to return to rural practice. “There’s something special about country practice - you’re not just treating animals, you’re becoming part of the community,” Dr Mangan explains.

Dr Mangan will be available for companion animal consultations at Kenilworth Veterinary Surgery. His experience with both large and small animals, combined with his advanced diagnostic skills, makes him a valuable addition to the to the local veterinary services.

The practice welcomes Dr. Mangan

Sharing from previous years. Ticks are bad again this year. It doesn't matter if you cat is an inside cat only, we urge you to ensure your animals both cats and dogs are on tick prevention. We have had many cases since before July this year and it's increasingly getting worse. A walk up the nature strip of a road will have ticks, Your back yard will have ticks, the long grass and forestry will have ticks. Doesn't matter where you are and where you think there aren't ticks, there will be. So if your animals are not covered, please ensure you purchase tick prevention from your closest supplier. Thanks KVS TEAM

TICK SEASON

Ticks are out and about in full force. If you do not have your dogs on prevention, we suggest you get them covered as soon as possible. Regardless if you have cattle or not in and around your home, ticks will still be there. Do not get complacent with prevention.

Ticks cause paralysis starting from the back end and working its way through the body. As they suck the blood, they secrete a toxin into the pet. This toxin affects the nervous system leading to a number of symptoms and potentially death.

Keep your pets safe.

SNAKE ALERT!

Please ensure you are on alert for snakes in and around your home!

Ensure you have short grass, tin/timber stacks off the ground. And clean visible garden beds.

Snakes are on the move and we have already had many cases of snake bite victums.

Snakes are attracted to water, empty any containers or buckets that you are not using for your dogs water.

Please phone your closest vet clinic if you think your dog has been bitten.
