I got my first horse when I was 10yrs old. I learnt how to ride and went to Pony Club for 2.5yrs, frequently winning Presentation and Rider Class. My favourite sporting events were Bending, Bounce Pony and Barrels. My parents bought their first Arabian and we started taking her to Arabian Shows. They then started up their own Arabian Stud, breeding and showing them. I used to halter show as well. My sister and I were in charge of the day to day care of the stud horses. They were stabled, so they were tended to twice a day fed, rugged, de-rugged etc. and the stables were cleaned every morning before school. When the horses were being shown, I was in charge of working them into show condition. I did this for about 8yrs. I also did Work Experience at a huge Arabian Stud - Redwood Lodge, which has since relocated to France! They had about 20-30 horses at the time which included stallions, mares, colts, fillies and broodmares with or without foals at foot. I handled them all, my duties included - preparing feeds, feeding, cleaning stables inside and out, grooming, bathing, moving from stable to paddock and back again including mares with foals. I also assisted in preparing them for an open night presentation. I also used to assist friends at shows by warming up their horses for them before they went into the ring. I have owned my own Arabian Stud since 2009, I have had 3 foals born 2014, 2016 and 2018 and been there to assist at all of their births. My next foal is due in September this year. I have successfully treated some severe injuries, after surgery recovery, cured my severely itchy filly to a manageable level. I also tamed a yearling filly that had gone feral and had a 5m rope attached to her and she became as quiet as a lamb! I am an Open Endurance Rider (Apr 2015) and I acheived this on my green broken mare, so we both became Open together with 100% completions! I have also ridden 4 times for other Endurance owners. I am currently employed at Marshall Thoroughbreds Stud since Feb 2017. Duties include feeding, mucking out stables and yards, handling babies, yearlings, spelling racehorses and broodmares. Bathing, lunging, treating wounds, float training, making feeds, assisting Vets, giving intramuscular injections. Assisting in foaling down mares, doing pH milk testing, using foaling alarms. Mowing, whippersnipping, driving a tractor, poisoning weeds, fence repairs, trouble shooting electric fences.
