Blaze Aid have just announced a grant program to assist community-minded applicants with fire-fighting equipment. See further details below:

ALL FIRED UP // Farm Fire Fighting Unit Grants

BlazeAid’s All Fired Up grant program supports farmers in bushfire-prone regions across Australia to upgrade their Private Fire Fighting Units (PFFUs). These units — including slip-on tanks, pumps, hoses, radios, and safety gear — play a vital role in early bushfire response and property protection.

This time-limited initiative runs from October 2025 to February 2026, offering grants of up to $10,000 per applicant. Most grants are expected to be around $2,000 or less, covering repairs, upgrades, or essential safety equipment. Farmers are encouraged to purchase the items upfront, with BlazeAid reimbursing a percentage based on need, merit, and safety standards. Pre-approval is available for those with limited funds.

A few weeks ago, Dr Jayne performed surgery to remove Kate’s parotid and mandibular salivary glands after ongoing issues with a salivary mucocoele, a pocket of saliva that forms when a salivary gland or duct becomes damaged.

Whilst quite an intricate surgery, the procedure went smoothly, and at her recent recheck we were thrilled to see she’s healing beautifully, with the drain now removed.

Salivary gland conditions can be challenging and require skilled surgery and consistent follow-up care. Kate’s recovery is a wonderful reflection of both!

At this time of year there is a lot of joy around foalings but also a lot of stress & sadness.
Thankfully this is a good news story!

We recently had a client mare in for foal watch due to a family funeral. And luckily for them she was with us.
A sigloo foaling alarm was put in place which alerts when the vulval lips part and stay parted for a period of time. Well this happened & Dr Jayne was patiently watching. The amniotic sac and 2 front feet started to appear. However after 15 minutes of labouring and rolling it was apparent there was an issue, as nothing further was happening.
Foalings are generally explosive events with most being over & done with in 20-30 minutes max.
The mare was palpated and found that the foal had 2 front feet presenting but the head was folded down 180 degrees under the legs and the nose was pointing up towards the mares spine.

Nurse Kearna was called & the mare was taken into the stocks and given sedation. The foals head was attempted to be repositioned. After a tense time the foal was finally re-positioned and delivered safely.
He was up within an hour of birth and helped to suckle within 2 hours of birth.
He passed his IGG test the next day with flying colours! The mare & foal continued to go well and they went home within a few days of his birth.

Timely intervention for foaling emergencies are critical for good outcomes, as in this case. And we are so happy for a positive outcome!

Ja-car recently was referred to us after being found stuck in dam with paralysis from ticks.
He was transferred to our horse facility for care. This involved turning, lifting, pressure sore management, bathing and nutritional support both day & night.
After nearly 1 week he was able to stand and went home after a few more days of learning to get about.

We love good news stories in cases where it is often touch & go!
