Unfortunately with the rise in temperature we've started seeing cases of parvo arise in the Newcastle & Hunter regions.

Please ensure your dogs are fully vaccinated before taking them out for walks/to parks etc. This means your dog needs to be vaccinated every year to be covered. For example, this means if you have an 8yr old dog who has only had it's puppy vaccinations, they are NOT covered for parvo, so please speak to your local vet clinic to have this done. Your dog may already be immune, this can be checked by having a Titer test. Please note that these tests need to be done as often as having them vaccinated as their immunity levels can vary from year to year & they can be a more expensive option than a vaccination.

If you find a stray dog, please do NOT put them in your backyard. If they have parvo you can not only infect your own animals and it can stay in the ground for up to 7yrs.

Please keep an eye out for Parvo symptoms; lethargy, vomiting, lack of appetite, diarrhoea, bloody diarrhoea & drooling.

If you see these symptoms, take your dog straight to the vet and ask for a Parvo test.

We're only at the very beginning of the Parvo season and it looks like it's going to be a hot spring & summer, so please be safe, be responsible and stay vigilant.
