Paralysis Syndrome has struck again 🦜🦇💔
Cases of Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS) are rising in South East Queensland and flying foxes are also being impacted.
Our Wildlife Team is being inundated daily with patients. Since December 1st the Team have treated 349 lorikeets and 104 flying foxes suffering from the condition.
Unable to walk, eat, blink and eventually move at all, our rainbows of the sky and shadows of the night sky are suffering Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS) and require immediate and around the clock care.
When found early, LPS is treatable, but weeks of intensive care is required with full rehabilitation taking upwards of several months. But without intervention and intensive care, our beautiful lorikeets have no chance of survival.
🦜 If you find a sick lorikeet, you can transport them to your nearest vet for triage in a box with ventilation and a towel, otherwise call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL or your nearest wildlife carer.
🦇 If you find a sick flying fox, do not touch them. Call the RSPCA on 1300 ANIMAL, Bat Conservation and Rescue Qld, or your nearest wildlife carer.

A big thank you goes out to all our wildlife carers, volunteers, local vets, SEQ Hospital Network, Bats Conservation and Rescue QLD, and our Team who have been working around the clock to treat and care for the unprecedented number of lorikeets in such a short amount of time 🙌❤️
