✨ Charm Update! ✨

After a light winter in Connecticut, Charm and I are all ready bumping up spring workouts featuring riding and lunging sessions aimed at relaxation in all her gaits, strength through her back and hind end, and suppleness from side to side. She has an unwavering work ethic and eagerness to embrace new experiences. When not saddled up, Charm has discovered love of grooming sessions, bath time, and don’t forget the carrots! 🥕

Moon 🌙 update!!! It’s hard to be critical of this guy because he’s so great, naturally he has taken to flatting quietly on a loose rein in our rings even after days off and has even gone over some poles and a little x. Nothing spooks him and he always wants to give you the right answer. I really want to make sure I don’t rush such a good brained natural talent like Moon… so today we went back to the basics!

He and I are adding a lot of lateral work in our training sessions so he can figure out how to move different parts of his body different ways, rather than being locked through his body and tight through turns. Today we mostly walked and worked on shoulders in and bending/collecting and he really started to relax his jaw, accept my leg, and seek out connection in the bridle on his own.

I have enjoyed all the training on a loose rein up until now, because I find that connection in the bridle can often be used to disguise spookiness or gaps in a horse’s training, and the loose rein helps a horse learn his own cadence, learn to stretch and relax, and also lets the rider know how quiet minded they are when you aren’t holding their hand every step and bending them away from things. Additionally you know how they can carry themselves and where they tend to naturally hold their balance when you ride without contact and can help encourage them more uphill on their own and develop a desired natural rhythm. Adding in the collection now is definitely going to lead us to great course work soon… but good things come to those who wait! 💘

Tank is learning about trail riding on the property. He even went up to the water 💦. He seemed to really enjoy it and was not spooky at all. Next step off property trail riding with our other TB buddies. 🥰🐴

Hi everyone! I am excited to intoduce my RRP project Exxtop aka Tank🎖️ (Exxagerator-Nicks by Salt Lake)! Tank just turned 6 this past March 28th and spent the last 6 months relaxing and being a horse at Quiet Rein Farm. With 45 starts under his belt between 2020-2023 he came away with 🥇x2, 🥈x4, 🥉x4. Tank total earnings during his time totaled 💲78,125 🤑. Tank raced in several locations including Belmont park, Aqueduct, Monmouth park, Delaware park, Parx racing, Gulf Stream park and many more. Tanks racing career ended 9/5/2023 at Finger Lakes. His trainer at the time knew his ❤️ wasn’t in it anymore. He was then retired from racing and began to explore the world outside of the track (aka we don’t always go left). Tank has been nothing but a shining star 🌟 since I started working with him last week! He let me pull his mane on day one and was a total gentleman. So far I’ve learned that he loves his face brushed, drinking water from the hose, hanging his head over his stall door, and ppl watching from the grooming stall. Tank also got to meet Tarzan 🐶 and the 2 were buddies walking to and from the ring.

Tank was so well behaved for out first ride (where me and Catherine Ruh decided to ride in the outdoor at 8 pm with the outside barn lights on) and even better for the second (when tarzan decided to run up and down the fence line of the outdoor and the donkey in the paddock next to ring was turning night turnout into quite the party).

Things to work on: going straight, being more balanced, getting back into shape, cantering slower to the right.

Short term goals🌟learn to trail ride, learn about poles, find the right bit, get to know each other better

Long term goals💪🏼 RRP, learn to jump, hunter pace, horse show and stay healthy!!!

We are excited for everyone to follow along and to be part of such an awesome organization and community giving X racehorses a new meaning to life.
Thanks everyone -Christina 💟

First ride back after a winter break for Moon was a success! Beautiful weather, didn’t bat an eye at the tractor dragging the ring next to us, and went for a little walk to cool off. Happy to be back with my very smart, very level headed TB dude! -Catherine

Exciting announcement 📣

Moon & T***s (& a few others) got to know each other today in the paddock and enjoy the snow ❄️ ⛄️ because they will be heading to Ocala with us at the end of the week, and will be turning out together in FL so we wanted to make sure everyone gets along. Kaitlyn and I couldn’t bear to leave them behind while we are gone, so we figured out how to make it work for them to tagalong. This will be an awesome learning experience and fun adventure. As much as they enjoyed playing in the snow today, I’m sure they will enjoy the sun just as much! PC Mattie

Long overdue update!!! Moonie Pop had a light Christmas week because I was sick! So after 10 days off, with no lunge and limited turnout due to the rain, I swung a leg over and he was a perfect gentleman and WTC’d with his fellow TB, T***s, and Kaitlyn in the ring. Additional photo of baby Juliette meeting Moon on Christmas Day and feeding him a Christmas cookie for cute tax.

Soooo he may not have gotten to do the show with the other TBs but it wasn’t for lack of readiness. I was on baby duty & judging this weekend so Moon had a couple days off and a few days of no turnout due to the endless rain. Today, without lunging or anything he went straight from the stall to the busy indoor ring with the wind rattling and he walk trot cantered for his second ride like a gem. Finished off the night with a good leg wash and snuggle. Moon is special and I feel lucky to get to train such an easy going, sensible, and smart guy!

Surprise! Team Chance unexpectedly competed in their first horse show and was Reserve Champion in the Walk Trot division! This was only his second ride and he was a superstar, trotting around in a group of horses and taking to the speaker and the hustle bustle of the spectator area and bright colored jumps like he’s been doing it his whole life. Chance even got great ribbons in two walk trot poles classes! We are thrilled that this boy has already proven to be such a shining star in the ring and also so junior rider friendly. Huge thank you to Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program - FLTAP! for matching our junior team, Emilie, Makena, and Emma with him! Can’t wait for Kentucky!

TEAM CHANCE is off & running with their retraining. Chance had a dentist appointment and farrier appointment yesterday, and today learned all about lunging after a good grooming session. The girls reported that Chance was great for his session, and only had one very small buck of excitement when they lunged him. He looks pretty smitten to have the girls loving on him! More info on fundraising for TEAM CHANCE coming soon…
