We have extensive experience in helping dog owners understand their specific dogs behaviour and create a manageable strategy to correct any unwanted dog behaviour. We use a sensible practical approach to our training and generally get things in order with one single visit, but are always there to help with on going help whenever it is required. There will be some homework, but it is never difficult, time consuming or cruel. A standard home visit will generally last 1 ½ to 2 hours.

We have developed and adopted the most humane and natural dog training methods for any breed, and age and temperament of dog, so you can trust us to treat your dog with the utmost care and respect and will always be honest with our assessments and opinions.

Dog Behaviour Classes are suitable for dogs of all ages and are held in Cheltenham on Saturday mornings (12 – 1pm) – no prior training is required. Classes run over a four-week period. (Course cost $200). There are usually about six dogs in each class and often multiple trainers to help.

Classes are held in a mix of indoors (away from distractions and unpredictable weather) and outdoors, including spending some time in the street and at a nearby park for loose leash walking and recall training.

These classes are ideal for people who want to continue with further training after Puppy School or for those who need a little help issues such as :
✅Pulling on the lead
✅Inconsistent recall
✅Excessive barking and excitement at the door bell or visitors or dogs
✅Excessive boisterous behaviour/barking
✅Jumping Up
✅General bad behaviour around the home
✅Destructive behaviour

What are therapy dogs? Therapy Dogs are generally pet dogs that visit various facilities such as hospitals, age care, schools and even corporate offices. Most dogs are emotionally calming and naturally ‘disarming’ and often people are more likely to ‘open up’ and discuss their feelings with a dog being present. Dogs are commonly used in schools for reading programs (e.g. Story Dogs) as are they are non-judgmental and in particular have a calming effect on students and can improve their learning. Therapy dogs can also help a struggling student social confidence with direct interactions by them handling a therapy dog and mixing with other students, with attention being shared between the dog and student.

Home visits last between 1 ½ and 2 hours and including ongoing help. The visits are an ideal investment into the long term behaviour of your dog. They are ideal soon after you get a pup and done in conjunction with puppy classes if possible (for the social interaction and further training).

We also encourage kids to get involved and help kids with pups get along and be a part of this exciting time of learning for both.

Get Alan to check out if anything 'nasty or toxic is growing in your garden.' or discuss where your pups sleeps to minimise toilet issues, or get him not to pinch things off your coffee table or leave out the front door without an invitation! All part of the home visit service.

A school therapy dog can be used in a group setting type scenario or as a specific or very small select group of students.

Many children struggle with general learning and social skills, which can be caused by any number of factors from children with specific learning disorders, to past negative experiences, to their family environment – any of these can flow on to create a child who may struggle with the school environment. Visiting an age care facility or hospital or school can be a great community gift. Visits are always warmly received and appreciated by all those people lucky enough to get to pat a therapy dog. Personal Therapy dogs are also becoming more popular.

Training of your pet dog to be an emotional support dog for a particular person without the high level of training and qualifications can also be undertaken with us – we call this a Personal Therapy Dog. Open invitation to interested persons and their dogs along 6pm - 7pm, 23rd February to Cheltenham (St. Matthews Church, 161 Park Rd) for a free information night and 'pre assessment' night.

The night would discuss what is involved to become an accredited pet therapy team which would enable people and their dogs to visit hospitals, age care facilities and schools or for personal reasons. It’s a great community gift and very rewarding for both the people visited and the dog teams themselves. A brief assessment of the dogs behavior would also be undertaken.
The next actual assessment would be held late in March.
