Free Oral Examinations!

August is National Pet Dental Health Month!

We are highlighting the critical importance of dental health for all of our patients. Dental disease is one of the most common yet preventable health issues that pets face, often resulting in pain, discomfort, and severe health complications if left untreated.

Have you noticed your pets:
- breath smells?
- eating habits have changed or struggles with hard food or treats?
- Chewing slower than normal?
- Drooling?
- Vocalising in pain when eating?
- Pawing at the mouth?
- Resistance being touched around the face or mouth?

These can all be signs of dental disease.

For a free dental examination with one of our nurses please book β€˜Oral exam’ through our online booking system or call our friendly team on 6238 1132

We are back from Fiji! Dr John had an amazing 5 days at PASH doing a free desexing clinic for low income families and stray street dogs. His record was 26 sterile surgeries in 8 hours, and he desexed around 100 dogs can cats during the 5 days.

Gill and Alex also volunteered there for 2 weeks, nursing for surgeries, nursing some very interesting cases and helping do a full stock take and revamp of their pharmacy!

It was an incredible time as always and we are grateful to be able to volunteer our time and services for such a good cause, knowing we can help make a difference.

Could your pet be suffering from allergies?

Unlike us, allergies in dogs often show up as skin problems. Scratching more than usual and licking the paws are signs of an allergy. If you suspect your pet may be suffering from allergies, please do not hesitate to make an appointment as there are many ways we can alleviate their suffering and make their allergies settle.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the very sad news of the passing of Jenny Kenworthy. Jenny was a true advocate and the bone behind the German Shepherd Club in ACT German Shepherd Dog. She also passionately organised and managed the annual Endurance Test. Every year she appointed us as the veterinary team to vet the ET trial. Jenny, you will be fondly remembered and very deeply missed. ET trials in Canberra will never be the same. Thank you for all you did for the dogs of ACT, be it the GSDs or the ET. Rest in peace lovely lady x

Bula vinaka from Fiji!

We arrived safe and sound and are enjoying the wet season here with copious amounts of rain and flooding! The heat and humidity is incredible and we are grateful for air conditioning!

So far, in 2 days of work, we have castrated and speyed approximately 45 cats and 5 dogs, as well as performed surgery on other patients requiring specific procedures. It's been absolutely amazing and we are excited for the rest of the work we will be doing over the coming days.

Gill, Hayden and Alex are heading off to Fiji for 9 days in March to do volunteer veterinary work at the Pacific Animal Shelter and Hospital (PASH).

Whilst there, they will be visiting one of the local villages to give gifts to the children. If any of our clients would like to contribute and buy any items for us to take to the children, they are in need of clothing (boys and girls sizes 6 through to 16), balls (eg football, soccer ball etc uninflated for travel), lego and pencils and textas. If you wish to contribute, please drop any donations to Sonza by Monday 11 March. Thanks!
