Introducing the lovely Sonya who recently joined our team here at Sonza, however it feels like she has been here forever!! She has certainly made herself part of the family, constantly providing us with entertainment and laughs.

When she's not providing fantastic care to our patients, our horses and everyone else, she will be caring for her own horses, 2 mini dachshunds and 3 daughters.

We will often find Sonya out in the paddocks loving the Sonza horses, or watching her two Dachshund puppies Honey and Maye at home on her puppy cam (yes she has a puppy cam to talk to her four legged babies, and give them treats during the day). Or she will be making sure our clinic beds are comfy, our e-collars work well and finding the best accessories to style the latest fashion for us.

We are very lucky to have her as a part of our team here. She always puts a smile on our faces, is more than happy to share joke or two and making us jealous with the amazing food she makes herself for lunch every day (despite it all being gluten free).

Have you met Alex ?

Sonza veterinary nurse & our amazing resident workplace mentor (aka trainer of newbies, animal attendant, photographer & caffeine enthusiast).

We have been very fortunate to have Alex with us at the clinic now for 12 months. So we thought we'd celebrate her anniversary!

When she isn't multitasking in the surgery caring for patients, assisting vets or running between the boarding kennels, feeding dogs, cats & horses, you can find her with her 2 beloved basset hounds Fletcher & Bailey, playing hockey or broom ball. Alex also enjoys musical theatre & listening to country music. Which means, her Spotify playlist is popular amongst most of our staff.

Next time you’re visiting Sonza, say hi to Alex. No doubt she will be greeting your pets with a big smile and a warm hug.

Happy Sonza Anniversary Alex πŸ’—

How cute is this family! Angus, Coco and Howie visited last week for their annual pre-anaesthetic blood tests, dentals, C7 vaccinations, and SR12 Heartworm prevention injections. They were very brave and beautiful boys and all got matching bandanas from us! Nurse Alex couldn't resist taking this gorgeous family portrait πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

Our hearts go out to the amazing team at the pound. Working closely with you guys, we know how hard this has been for you all. You are all in our thoughts.

Please, everyone in the region, take the time to verify that your dog’s vaccinations are up to date. Parvo is a horrible virus for any dog to suffer with.

A warning that this post might be distressing for some readers, as it has been for the staff involved. We ask that you be mindful with any comments you make.

On Thursday 10 October, Council closed the Animal Management Facility following a positive test for canine parvovirus from a dog surrendered to the facility.

Canine parvovirus is a very serious disease that spread rapidly between dogs at the facility. The facility is not an animal hospital and with veterinary advice and attendance, we made the difficult but necessary decision to have all the dogs euthanised.

We would like to thank the local veterinary community for their support and expertise over the last week.

The Animal Management Facility will be closed to the public until further notice to allow us to conduct a deep clean of the whole facility.

While canine parvovirus is not an airborne virus, nor travels through soil, part of the deep clean includes removing contaminated soil from the facility. Removing the contaminated soil is vital to ensure the facility will be safe when it re-opens, even if this means we are closed for longer than we would like to be.

We would like to remind the community that canine parvovirus is a very serious disease. The disease came to the facility through a surrendered dog, which means parvovirus is in the community. We strongly encourage our community to ensure their dogs are vaccinated, and to be alert and keep an eye on their dog’s health.

If you have a lost dog that needs to have its microchip scanned to identify an owner, please take it to a local vet or get in touch with the team on 6285 6269 for Animal Management Officers to attend.

We have some wonderful cats available for adoption, and fortunately canine parvovirus does not infect other animals. If you are interested in adopting a cat or other animal, we encourage you to get in touch with the Animal Management team on 6285 6269 to make an appointment.

To our beautiful clients, and all who follow our page, we ask that you please take the time to read this post:

We love our jobs immensely and we are so priveledged and honoured to care for and look after your pets. Through sickness and health, through major life threatening emergencies and through cases with poor prognosis, through to puppy vaccinations and cuddles, through to death. We do it all, each and every day. Some days are harder than others, but we show up each and every day, give 100 percent and do our absolute best.

Today, our practice manager was sadly abused over the phone by a client that had only been here once, over one month ago. Sadly this clients dog had been euthanaised by another vet clinic some 8 days after we had seen it, after they failed to return here for their follow up consult a few days after we had initially seen the dog.

The abuse was horrendous, hurtful and totally unacceptable. Not to mention full of lies and inaccuracies. Whilst we understand this man was grieving, his behaviour was not acceptable. We encourage all to read the following article and understand not only the impact this industry has on us, but how behaviour and abuse as experienced today just takes it to an entirely new level.

Be kind. We are doing our absolute best and we love all of our patients as if they were our own.
