I eventually figured out it was the preservatives in the food I was feeding him! In particular it was Sulphur Dioxide Poisoning. I was shocked that commercial pet food nearly killed my best mate...

Once I transitioned to feeding a more natural/raw diet his seizures reduced & eventually after a few months they stopped completely. I am very proud to say Tipsy lived 7 additional seizure free years.

Don’t let anyone convince you that dry kibble is safer to feed your pet over minimally processed pet food.

In the past 5 years, over 69 million pounds of pet food have been recalled. The leading cause was mold contamination (aflatoxins), accounting for 60 million pounds, all from ultra-processed kibble.

The second most common reason was bacterial contamination. 8 million pounds were recalled due to harmful bacteria like Salmonella and Listeria. Kibble made up 97.7% of these recalls.

Refrigerated cooked foods accounted for 1.4%

Raw pet food was even lower, at just 0.7%

When it comes to safety, the data is clear: minimally processed pet food isn’t the risk—ultra-processed kibble is.

Big Pet Food just made a move the kibble-for-life vet community can’t ignore: Royal Canin is now selling a gently cooked fresher-food diet. 🙀

For years, many conventional vets have defended ultra-processed diets as the gold standard of nutrition— more nutritious and safer than fresh, minimally foods (for pets, not for people…. figure that one out). But if Big Kibble is now shifting toward fresher foods, their argument just lost its teeth.

As pet parents turn away from highly processed kibble and search for fresh, minimally processed pet foods🥩, Mars (the candy bar company that makes Royal Canin), not wanting to lose out on any more of the market, released a rice-based 🍚, cooked, frozen, feed-grade quality (made with ingredients not approved for human consumption 🤢), fresher food diet (like Freshpet).

It’ll be so interesting to watch the conventional vet community respond to it, because every doctor that sells Mars products is going to have to accept that it could become one of their top selling foods, but in a format they’ve argued against their entire careers. 

What an interesting way to force kibble-loving veterinarians to accept the fact that health conscious consumers recognize any type of fresher foods are better than ultra-processed foods, for all species. None of us were meant to thrive on highly engineered, processed pellets, it’s kind of counterintuitive for good health, yet still argued in veterinary medicine.

A new study published in the Cadillac of all journals, Nature, analyzed 32 dry & canned pet food products from the United States, (93 in total worldwide) and revealed a widespread presence of toxic metals, including chromium (Cr), mercury (Hg), & arsenic (As), across various brands. Notably, lead (Pb) levels were the highest overall, with some samples exceeding established regulatory safety limits.

Exposure to lead in dogs can have negative effects on the gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, cardiovascular system, and blood. Cadmium is known for its cumulative toxicity and can induce cancer in animals through various mechanisms, and exposure to it can cause nephrotoxicity and damage to the small intestine. These heavy metals found in pet food place added stress on key organs, especially the kidneys, which are responsible for filtering toxins from the body. Over time, that toxic burden can contribute to kidney dysfunction and disease. 😿

So what can you do?

One simple way to support detox is chlorella🦠— a green algae known for its ability to bind heavy metals in the gut and support gentle detoxification. It’s not a cure-all, but it can be a helpful part of your toolkit. (Be sure to use a clean, third-party tested brand.)

Our Story - Why we make RAW Natural Pet Food

To cut a long story short - after my little mate, a long hair Chihuahua began having seizures later in life & after many unsuccessful visits to many different vets & trying lots of different meds that simply did not work, I began researching & finally figured out it was the preservatives in the food I was feeding. I had to come to terms with the fact that I was killing my little mate without even realising it!

Ever since then (for about 8 years) I have been researching how to provide the MOST NATURAL & HEALTHY Food for our own pets. Then I had an idea! - What if I made this food on a larger scale & helped other people with their pets diet/health issues... Needless to say it has become my passion!

I am currently studying a Holistic Animal Nutrition Course online & I am really enjoying the journey to healthier Cats & Dogs. We are even eating healthier! Our own animals are most definitely healthier.

I am also working alongside a very trusted Naturopath - Kerry Allman (Natural Healing for Animals). All of the products I have tried from Kerry have worked wonders. I cannot recommend her enough!
