Pyometra is a medical condition that affects female dogs and cats. It is a life-threatening infection of the uterus, most commonly seen in unspayed (not neutered) female animals.
Pyometra occurs when bacteria enter the uterus and cause an infection, leading to the accumulation of pus. It is a serious condition that requires immediate veterinary attention.
Symptoms of pyometra may include excessive drinking and urination, loss of appetite, lethargy, vaginal discharge, and a swollen abdomen.
Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the infected uterus (spaying) along with supportive care, such as antibiotics and fluids.
Consult with your veterinarian regarding the most appropriate time to sterilse your pet.
Factors such as breed and sex can influence this decision.

🐱 Meet Delilah, also known as Deli! 🐾
Delilah's journey at Challenger Vet started when she arrived as a stray with a painful wound on her back. Thanks to our team, we treated her wound and ensured her speedy recovery.
During her time with us, we noticed something special about Delilah - her belly was growing! It turns out she was pregnant all along. Deli was then taken under the care of our amazing foster carers, Lee and Tracey, who made sure she received the extra attention and care she needed.
Just last night, Delilah went into labour. However, she faced some difficulties while giving birth to her first kittens, leading to distress. Without wasting a moment, Deli was rushed back to Challenger Vet. With the help of an oxytocin injection, she successfully delivered two kittens.
Although the labour seemed to pause after that, we decided to perform an X-ray and discovered that two more kittens were still waiting to join the world. Delilah underwent a Caesarean procedure to safely deliver them. Although the newborns were weak initially, our team worked tirelessly to resuscitate them, and we are thrilled to say that they are now thriving, feeding, and growing strong🐾

UPDATE: Queenie the stray kitty that was brought in a couple of weeks ago is now being looked after by a lovely foster family. She gave birth to 5 healthy babies on Sunday.

Dr Denver and Dr Hendrik are two of our senior veterinary surgeons here at Challenger Vet and they have recently started performing TPLO surgeries in house!
A TPLO or Tibial Plateu Leveling Osteotomy is an advanced orthopaedic procedure performed when a dog has ruptured their cruciate ligament. The cruciate ligament is there to stabilise the knee joint and when it is partially or completely ruptured it can be very painful and inhibit a dog’s ability to walk comfortably.
We now offer this service, among many other surgical procedures, Monday to Friday for eligible patients. Book an appointment or enquire today if you wish to know more or have our excellent team perform your pet’s next procedure.
