Trots fundraiser tickled pink as Glenn McGrath set to attend
Hope to see you all at the Shepparton Harness Mothers' Day race meeting.
Thrilled Pacing for Pink organisers are optimistic they'll be able to bowl over previous fundraising records after cricketing legend Glenn McGrath confirmed he will attend the May 8 feature at Shepparton.

The face of the McGrath Foundation, who's taken the fifth most wickets in the world all-time, will mingle with patrons at the race day and has donated a signed cricket to be auctioned.

Pacing for Pink coordinator and trainer/driver Donna Castles said they were "over the moon to have Glenn McGrath able to attend this year".

"He will be signing autographs and handing out cricket gear to people on the day," she said.

His attendance has fueled hopes this year's campaign could be the biggest yet, having started as a one-off race day at Cobram 11 years ago to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.

It has grown year on year and now has drivers wearing sponsored pink pants for all of May.

“It has just been amazing the way everyone has gotten behind it," Castles said.

"This year we have been able to go outside Victoria and drivers from other states have come on board and for the first time we will have around 160 drivers across Australia wearing the pink pants in May.”

The campaign raised more than $65,000 last year thanks to sponsors, donors and the main fundraiser at Shepparton.

This year’s May 8 feature race day promises to be a fun-filled day and families will have even more reason to celebrate.

"Our main race day also happens to be Mother's Day this year, so we have a number of dining packages as well as marquees that people can book to enjoy a day out with mum at the trots and support the McGrath Foundation.”

Castles has been one of the main driving forces behind the fundraiser, a movement that's very personal for her having battled breast cancer.

Along with Margaret Watson she dares to dream they could top last year's fundraising efforts.

“The support we have received from business’ and individuals donating raffle items or sponsoring drivers just blows you away each year," she said.

"We have also had Club Menangle generously offer to donate $200 for every pink pants win at Menangle, every female trained winner as well as every win by the number eight during May.

“We would love to see as many people as possible at Shepparton on May 8. We have a fantastic committee of Marg as well as Stacey Towers and Juanita Breen who that put so much work in behind the scenes to make sure it is a success and we can’t wait for it to kick off again.”

To get involved in the campaign contact Margaret Watson on 0409 401 189 or click here to go to Pacing for Pink's page.

Congratulations to Garry and Kath Merkel - a trifecta for their mare 'Roslyn Gaye' with a win in the Hunter Rural Vicbred Pace at Shepparton Harness meeting on Tuesday night (number 9 down the outside in the photo finish). 💪

The Merkel's bred, own and train this lovely mare; her winning streak clocks up 13 career wins. 🐴

Roslyn Gaye is close to Dr. Clare's heart as she AI'ed her mum; Roslyn was one of twins scanned at 15 days - thankfully Dr. Clare reduced 'the slow' one to produce this mare that has given the Merkel Family so much joy🥰

Go Team Equine
❤🐴Veterinary nurses are an integral part of our success. Belinda joined our team early during stud season and has been doing lots of work behind the scenes. Be sure to keep an eye out for her - she could be found assisting our equine vets on farm with anaesthetics, surgery, x-rays etc; or in triage or whizzing around on duty in the small animal unit.
Belinda grew up in Melbourne with a passion for horses from a young age. This lead to her doing a Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing with an equine focus. Upon completion she had the opportunity to work in the USA in a world renown equine hospital where she solidified her passion for working with horses - but Belinda enjoys working with all animals, large and small. As can be seen from the photos below, Belinda loves her foals🥰
She enjoys her downtime with her pets, hiking and archery.

Our Equine Team continues to grow 💪 .............. we are very excited to welcome aboard Dr. Megan Burns🐴❤

Megan has recently moved up from the Mornington Peninsula, and is loving her new country lifestyle.
As a recent Veterinary graduate from Melbourne University, Dr. Megan is super excited to follow her passion for equine work.
The last few weeks have been all hands on deck with some big surgery days.
It's not every day that we get to cuddle Macey, the most gorgeous 9 week old Springa Doodle during surgery - but we had to make sure we gave enough time for the epidural to work....

Outside the clinic Megan is a massive foodie, where she loves to cook, bake and create massive spreads for all her friends and family!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Australia Day yesterday !!❤Gotta luv these fancy Auzzie icons......................hahaha🐴

👀 Our next GASTROSCOPE DAY has been booked for Thursday 10th February 2022.

Ring reception ASAP on 5852 4600 for further details and to secure a time slot for your horse.
These days are very popular and, as usual, places are filling quickly.

Dr. Cynthia and Dr. Megan are our equine vets on deck for the day and we are all looking forward to catching up with Alex from Randlab again, after so many scope days had to be cancelled due to lockdowns.

BEST NEWS EVER -- CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TIANA 💪🥳👍❤🐴

Tiana, our amazing vet-tech, has been accepted into a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Adelaide - how exciting !!!!!

We are all very proud of you Tiana; especially Dr. Clare !!!!

Tiana will continue as one of our experienced veterinary nurses on our Afterhours Tele-triage Service whilst away at University - it is always great to hear her voice at the other end of the phone (especially since we can't have her here in person for a while).

Best Wishes for your studies; come back to us soon.

Merry Christmas to all our wonderful clients and staff throughout the year.

Some of these foals haven't seen too many huminoids without a mask on - I wonder what they really think about it all?

BISON EASY - Hahaha

Dr. Clare has several stock-horse clients who train their horses on Bison, such as Owen and Rugged Ears pictured below.

Bison are an animal native to North America and have caught the attention of the camp-draft world.
Camp-drafting is an Australian sport and a popular one in this neck of the woods, involving a horse and rider working cattle.
The rider starts in a yard, or "camp" with a mob of cattle and is required to cut one beast, called the "cut out" from the rest.
The gate is then opened and the camp-drafter chases the animal out into the arena and directs it around the course.
The rider is scored out of 100 for the cut out, horse work and the course.
Bison have a greater stamina than cattle and can keep going, making them ideal for training. They don't go sour like cattle and therefore you can keep using them. An added benefit is that bison tend not to be aggressive.
