This week my young border collie certainly caused me a lot of stress and anxiety! π€―A few days ago I found an unfed paralysis tick underneath his jaw. After about an hour of trying to keep him still I managed to get it off him.
Then the countless hours afterwards trying to identify what type of tick it was on Google!!! Not easy to find images nowadays on the net strangely enough! π
So, the next day I observed him closely. Just acting like the typical Bouncing Bodhi self. That was until later in the afternoon.
First up, I fed both Kora and Bodhi. They enjoyed the afternoon lying near each other on the grass. Later I saw Bodhi on the outside seat, which wasnβt a normal thing for him to lie on.
As the sun was setting and the temperature was lowering I called out to him to come inside, but he just looked at me and didnβt move. Thinking that that was very unlike him. I walked up to him and asking him to come and still not moving. I picked him up, walked to the back door, placed him on the ground so that I could open the door. Then I noticed his hindleg shaking! π€ Walked inside and placed him on one of a few dog beds in the lounge room π Still not wanting to move but sitting in an extended back position.
Now thinking back over the day where he was being his happy normal self, he did go stupid trying to run on our hard floors when the courier man turned up! It was highly likely that he injured himself and when he jumped up onto the outside lounge it caused further damage.
Upon palpation and assessment I felt excessively tight spinal muscles with tight hip flexors and adductors.
In the back of my mind I was still so stressed about the tick but with the other occurrences of the day and with the observations and symptoms, it wasnβt telling me that it was related to tick toxin.
With the help and an encouraging reminder from my sister that night to do what I do, I got into healer mode. I offered and gave him energy healing, soft tissue releases, cold laser therapy and a homeopathic remedy for muscle and tendon pain.
Knowing that he had great difficulty in standing Iβd be expecting a cry thru the night to go outside for wees as he wasnβt able to move around.
I woke up to a soft cry at 2am, carried him outside with Kora being a supervisor. He walked very awkwardly. Boy did he have a full bladder!!! Carried him back inside having the understanding that we should all sleep now to the morning.
It was still dark when I heard βa dogβ walking down the hallway (), thinking it was Kora but when I shone my torch in the room, she was sound asleep in her crate. So I got up to search for Bodhiβ¦β¦.he was nowhere to be found?!?! I then walked back down the hallway to where I closed but not locked a baby gate to a room. He was sitting in the room where he nudged the gate open but couldnβt get back out π€
I realised he was walking and he walked back to his bed without any noticeable difficulty! That was a relief let me tell you!
That morning he was very tired and after some more cold laser therapy I had the perfect opportunity to trim his furry feet. Prior, I could only do small trimming increments. Now he has all trimmed pink toe beans β
π
Second time today he was allowed in the healing room and after sniffing everything he finally laid down and relaxed.
Bodhi will be kept in the smaller yard while he recovers and Iβll continue with therapy.
