Remember the beautiful Angie? ๐ฅฐ
I had the pleasure of seeing her again today for some more Bowen Therapy ๐ itโs hard to believe itโs been a year since I last saw her but in that time she has maintained good health & movement until recently.
At an amazing 12 years old she is finding that her rear legs are starting to let her down a bit. This is causing stiffness in her hindquarters & mid back & a lot of pressure in her shoulders from shifting all her weight forward ๐
Her Mum is convinced Bowen Therapy made a huge difference for Angie a year ago and is keen to continue the therapy now to help Angie stay as mobile & comfortable as possible.
The therapy I provided today will start the process of realignment & balance and I look forward to continuing this over the next few weeks. Angie had a big smile on her face the whole time & I even got a lovely big kiss at the end ๐๐ถ๐พโค๏ธ

Understanding arthritis in dogs begins with learning the signs and working with your Vet for an accurate diagnosis ๐ถ๐ฉป
Signs include:
๐พ postural changes
๐พ dragging feet
๐พ exercise intolerance (panting)
๐พ sensitivity to touch
๐พ behavioural changes
๐พ wagging tail less
๐พ being uninterested & distant
๐พ changes in eating habits
๐พ unable to stretch or shake fully
๐พ licking or chewing paws
๐พ sleeping more than usual
Whilst arthritis is not curable, there is help & hope with many different treatment options available including weight management, traditional medications, joint supplements and complementary therapies such as Bowen Therapy ๐

Howโs this for a great idea! ๐ก๐พ๐๐ฟ
Our local Murrays Restaurant not only has a designated doggy table for our furry friends to join in the fun, but have now added a very smart grassed area which provides a safe, non-slip surface - super important for all dogs but particularly the compromised or elderly, love it ๐๐
Coco gives it a 10 out of 10 ๐

I graduated with the International School of Bowen Therapy (ISBT) in 2021 but thanks to Covid, didnโt receive my t-shirt until now! Thank you Lisa, I am so proud to wear it ๐๐๐พ

Super excited to say I have just completed Level 1 of this amazing Canine Arthritis Course and am now a qualified CAM Advocate ready to raise awareness of the disease to help more dogs live longer with less pain ๐พ๐
Arthritis in dogs is so much more common than most realise. 4 out of 5 dogs over the age of 8 and an unbelievable 35% of dogs over the age of 1 year old suffer from arthritis ๐ซค It is PAINFUL and not just an โold dog diseaseโ. It is also, sadly, the major cause of elective euthanasia in dogs ๐ฅ
Dogs cope and mask chronic pain very well, until they are no longer able to ๐ It can be displayed in a variety of subtle changes ie: postural, gait, capability, coat changes & behaviour. I can show you how to spot the signs early, understand the progression and affects of the disease and provide useful guidance and tips on how to assist with reduction & management of pain relevant to your dogโs lifestyle and home environment.
Please reach out if you would like to know more โค๏ธ
FUN FACT
Why do dogs make such a mess when drinking? ๐
Dogs drinking may look slapdash and messy, but it is actually a highly technical and precisely timed set of movements called โacceleration-driven open pumpingโ ๐ซก
A study published in the journal โProceedings of the National Academy of Sciencesโ used high-speed photography to work out exactly whatโs going on.
Dogโs mouths canโt create suction due to their jaws being designed to be wide enough to bite large mammals so they have incomplete cheeks ๐ณ
Instead they curl their long tongues backwards forming a ladle-shape that thumps down into the water creating an initial splash ๐ฆ The tongue is then quickly yanked back into the mouth and the splashed water sticks to the top side of the tongue creating a rising column of water. The dog then snaps itโs mouth shut into this column of water at the point when the greatest volume has risen, and drinks it, which is the messy bit! ๐๐ฌ
So next time your pup creates a tidal wave and leaves a trail of destruction behind them, consider it as a masterpiece and pass the towel please!!!๐คฃ๐

FUN FACT - Akita, the worldโs most loyal dog ๐พ๐
Hachi-ko was a Japanese Akita born in 1923 who followed his owner Professor Ueno from their home to Tokyoโs Shibuya Station every day, then waited until he returned to walk home again.
Sadly, Professor Ueno died at work in 1925, but Hachi-ko continued to wait for him for another 10 years ๐ฒ becoming a national hero in the process ๐๏ธ
When he died, Japan held a national day of mourning and a statue was erected to his memory at the station ๐๐ฏ๐ต
Definitely a hero in my eyes ๐๐พ๐ถ

Why do humans love dogs? ๐ง
When we interact with dogs our bodies release the hormones oxytocin, beta-endorphin, prolactin and dopamine, plus the neurotransmitter beta-phenylethylamine, all associated with affection, happiness and bonding ๐ฅฐ
We also experience a decrease in cortisol, a hormone related to stress, resulting in a pleasant biochemical high which is as good a definition of love as any ๐พ๐โ๐ฆบ๐งก
There is also solid evidence that when we stare into the eyes of a dog, it activates the same hormone release we get from staring into the eyes of a baby. In a sense, dogs have hihacked the biochemical system that binds humans together - clever puppers!! ๐ค๐พ
Research shows when people arenโt able or arenโt allowed to care for others, they are more likely to experience decreased health, well being and depression โน๏ธ
Put simply, caring for a dog makes us feel EXTRAORDINARY!! ๐ถ๐๐
D-E-N-V-A-R โค๏ธ a very special girl.
Denvar is a 10 year old Pure Bred Bull Mastiff who I first met back in 2019 when she was struggling with arthritis. She couldnโt stand for very long before her rear legs started to shake violently and she needed to sit down. This was making her regular walks less & less frequent and her quality of life was slowly declining ๐ฅ
After only one therapy session, Denvar amazed us all by waking up the following morning like a different girl. She could stand without shaky legs, was brighter, happier, moving better and best of all, she continued to maintain this improvement ๐
Her owners were amazed at the difference and after a second session were able to resume Denvarโs regular walks again. Since then, they have become firm believers in this wonderful therapy ๐ซถ
Over the past 3 years I have seen Denvar on multiple occasions for various issues, occasionally using Bowen Therapy as a stand alone modality but also in a complementary capacity working alongside conventional Veterinary care when she has required medication following slips, falls & infections. Each time this girl defies the odds, perks back up and keeps going.
She is very cheeky, full of personality, loves a belly rub, has the sad face โdown patโ and sits perfectly still for her therapy (as long as there is a treat on offer) ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Itโs always a pleasure seeing her and her Owners, with the trust and friendship that has been built over the years being the biggest bonus of all โค๏ธ๐พ๐ฅฐ

Say hello to DUSTY, a beautiful, gentle and very handsome 7 year old English Staffy gentleman ๐
Dusty was rescued from the pound 2 years ago by his new family so his previous life is a mystery. This little man sadly displayed some behavioural issues on arrival and also struggles with anxiety. Most people would have found this too difficult and given up on him but having loved an English Staffy previously his family are very familiar with the breed and know Dusty is well worth the effort ๐. They have worked tirelessly to settle him into his new routine, give him the best of everything that life can offer and move forward along the right path introducing consistent behavioural training and quality herbal calming supplements as well as all their love to help him become the dog he was always meant to be ๐พ๐ถ
Dusty is starting to show a little stiffness upon rising, being hesitant going up & down his home stairs and has slowed down on his regular walks. His owners were keen to introduce Bowen Therapy to Dustyโs care to assist with his comfort, reduce pain and improve movement plus hopefully have a positive effect on his anxiety levels.
I have seen Dusty twice now and he has accepted this gentle therapy like a trooper, standing still, being patient and is already reaping the rewards by getting up the stairs much quicker ๐๐
Dusty is so obviously loved by his family, he is a very lucky boy to have found his forever home and I am so happy to be a part of this gorgeous boyโs bright new future and help to keep him moving & grooving !! ๐๐

Why do dogs fart but cats donโt? ๐ค๐
The main digestive difference between dogs and cats is that dogs are built to break down fibre and cats arenโt ๐บ
Dog farts are mainly produced from fibrous foods such as grains and vegetables which are broken down by bacteria in the colon via fermentation, causing gas ๐จ๐ because cats donโt eat fruit and vegetables they have very little fibre in their diet so (lucky for their owners) donโt suffer the same consequences ๐
A fair proportion of dog farts are also made of air gulped whilst wolfing their food down (coming from a Labrador Mum, that is no surprise) ๐ Cats on the other hand, tend to eat daintily and slowly ๐
Dogs eat anything, fart at will and often look pretty pleased with themselves after doing so - much like my husband ๐คฃ๐พ

Say hello to Angie, an Old English Sheepdog with the most beautiful smile ๐๐
This majestic lady suffers from Degenerative Tracheal Collapse due to her age which causes her to pant constantly ๐
๐ฅต
Her owners are very aware of the dangers for Angie (excessive heat/over exercising/risk of choking) and are fantastic at managing her needs ๐๐
Angie has also started to suffer from age related stiffness which is where Bowen Therapy can be very effective to assist improvement in Angieโs level of mobility and comfort ๐๐
After only two therapy sessions, Angie has displayed a marked increase in her mobility with reduced stiffness and she is continuing to maintain this improvement ๐คฉ๐
Her owners are very happy with the results and will continue to incorporate Bowen Therapy into Angieโs future healthcare to help her age gracefully, maximise her mobility, good health and keep her beautiful smile shining bright! ๐ซถ๐๐พ๐
Meet Phoebe, an adorable 10 month old Staffy who was born completely deaf. This sweetheart has had a pretty rough start to life finding herself in a rural pound in NSW ๐
However, due to the amazing Phoebe has hit the jackpot and is currently in foster care with .the.woof.dog.daycare plus already has a beautiful family keen to adopt her into their home ๐ฅณ
Her foster carers are working hard to settle her in, expose her to all the good things in life as well as initiate sign language training to put Phoebe on the right path to success ๐
Phoebe currently has a shoulder soft tissue injury from being a little too enthusiastic with her bounce ๐คญ so after seeking Vet approval, her carers were keen to introduce Bowen Therapy to aid her recovery process ๐ the therapy will not only initiate the healing process in a non-invasive way, it will also be beneficial to Phoebeโs positive association training when meeting new humans, being handled and trusting, which for this little girl must be a steep learning curve ๐ฅบ
She is such a sweet girl and immediately accepted me and the therapy as if she instinctively knew it was ok ๐ She took it all in her stride with a wiggly tail and plenty of kisses before totally relaxing afterwards ๐๐พ
I am so honoured to have the opportunity help this very special little girl and be a part of her rescue & recovery process. ๐ซถ๐
Look at those ears!!
This adorable boy is Rocket ๐ an 8 year old Kelpie x German Shepherd who I have been seeing for Bowen Therapy sessions since June this year.
Due to his absolute obsession with tennis balls ๐พ plus the inevitable ageing process, Rocket was starting to struggle with stiffness and general muscle tightness when I first met him. Kindly referred by .Newcastle , I have seen Rocket on 4 separate occasions and in between my visits, he has also had physio, acupuncture & Laser therapy to complement his treatment. Talk about a lucky boy! ๐๐พ
Rocket is now showing a huge improvement in his movement, is happier, in less pain and has even returned to jumping up onto his Owners bed which he hasnโt done for quite some time. Move over Mum, Rocket is back ๐
Maintenance is the name of the game for Rocket moving forward. This rejuvenated boy holds a very special place in my heart and deserves to live his best pain-free life ๐
I love working as part of a team of complementary therapists to achieve the best outcome for our special pups ๐ถ๐พ๐๐

Why do dogs love lying on their backs with their legs in the air? ๐ค
There is no greater show of self-confidence than a dog lying on its back, legs spread, โCrown Jewelsโ ๐๐ to the wind, head flung back and jowls drooping the wrong way to expose their teeth; itโs the ultimate expression of LIVING MY BEST LIFE!!
By exposing their most vulnerable body parts, it means they feel confident, safe & unthreatened. Other theories include thermoregulation and the need for a good old stretch. Dogs sweat through their paws so having all four in the air allows for faster evaporative cooling. The fur on their belly is also relatively thin compared to the fur on their back so exposing it allows heat to dissipate ๐
Lying on their backs also stretches their muscles and gives a nice sense of release plus helps to ease joint aches๐ฅฐ
No wonder they have a big smile on their faces ๐๐
