Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity with a network of foster homes across Melbourne and Geelong, and a No Kill, volunteer run shelter in Lara, Victoria. We focus predominantly on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of street-born cats, as well as dogs not being picked up by other rescue organisations, arranged for euthanasia by owners and vets have intervened, and greyhounds exited from t

he racing industry. We are 100% volunteer run and self/community funded, please read on to find out more about our important work and how you can help. MORE ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
Our Stray Cat Rehabilitation Centre, was purpose built by previous owners to house the breeding of German Shepherds. In 2017 we gained ownership of the property and developed this building into 'The Cat Cottage’, which provides long term housing in bright, colourful, fully enclosed group pens capable of housing 8 cats each, in a tranquil setting surrounded by nature. We take in full stray cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, orphaned kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats who are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned - we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats are true strays, as opposed to owned cats who have ended up in traps. ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
Given we take in dogs who most often have ended up homeless due to behaviour issues, some minor, some serious, most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption. We have all our dogs assessed by professional dog trainers, with some going on to have extensive behaviour work whilst in our care. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour as well as ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dog adoptions is very important to us because we refuse to see our dogs end up back in the system. Because of this we rarely have dogs returned, but to ensure we can help our dogs for the entirety of their life if for some reason their adopter is no longer able to love and care for them, we offer a lifetime guarantee to accept them back no matter what the reason, age of the dog at this stage, or health status. The few dogs we've had returned in our 5 years (as of 2022) have been due to no fault of their own and have been easily re-adopted into new homes where they have stayed.

* Note we provide this policy for our cats also

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:
 to remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they never breed return to the street again,
 to demonstrate the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
 to educate the community on the stray cat problem in Australia and that desexing is the only way to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
 to physically and psychologically rehabilitate dogs and cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
 to provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn high level animal husbandry and handling which may assist their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
 to provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool skills for the betterment of animals who may otherwise be stuck in the system or lose their life. WE NEED YOUR HELP
As a small organisation with no government or corporate funding, just funds from our own pockets and donations from our wonderful supporters, our services are in constant demand and our resources forever stretched. If you can help we would be so incredibly grateful! To donate please follow the prompts here; you can donate as a once off, regular monthly gift, or contact us about our Sponsor a Stray program to choose one of our very deserving street cats currently in rehabilitation to sponsor and receive regular updates. Thankyou for your support, we can't do this without you and our wonderful community!

We've been waiting months to find our family :( But we understand it's because they don't know we exist yet, we know once they see us they'll be exicited to meet us! Please help them see us online by sharing our post 🙏

Best friends Odie, 1.5 and Yuki, 3, take unconditional love to another level. We've never seen so much gentleness and acceptance between two dogs, they're so comfortable in each other's space they're almost one body with two heads 😆

To people they're smoochy, gentle, affectionate and well behaved, and genuine lap dogs; they'll climb into your lap at every opportunity and fall asleep 💗

Yuki is incredibly smart and would be fantastic at something like agility. Odie has a funny habit of walking into the space between your legs with his head and torso pointing out the back of you and his backend pointing out the front of you, and just standing there 😆

They're more suited to a home with daily walks in the neighborhood and playtime at home than runs off lead at a dog park or beach, but would enjoy being part of a dog walking group and this would easily meet their socialisation needs.

Kids? Probably above age 10 is best given their size. Cats? They've shown some lovely behaviour towards cats but would still need careful introductions.

This deeply loving, bonded pair are going to make a family or couple extremely happy. We know they're going to complete your home and bring something special to your life. To enquire head to https://www.petrescue.com.au/listings/1074901

*** Foster With View to Adopt (to test its the right match or to pay adoption fee over a period) is available for the right home ♡

URGENT – FOSTER/PERMANENT HOME NEEDED
BY January 8th, 2025

Lotus has been adopted and abandoned twice now, through no fault of her own. 💔

With her current carers moving, this sweet-natured girl is seeking a committed family that will ensure she is always safe and loved. We must find that home by Jan 8th next year, as her returning to our shelter will cause her to shut down.

Lotus is a tender and affectionate girl who will stand by you in good times and bad, transforming your house into a home. You will see from the candid shots just how well she does in a home. 🥰

She adores being close to her cherished humans and is a true cuddler. When you are deep thought, she'll nudge you back to reality soft headbutts, a gentle reminder of her presence and the unconditional love and support a pet can offer. communicates with endearing trills and expressive flicks of her bushy tail. While she's not snuggling on your lap or cozying up beside you, she amuses herself with tiny felt balls or crinkly packing paper. 💞

Most importantly, Lotus prefers being the queen of the house, so she is best suited to being an only pet! 🐈‍⬛

Please comment on this post if you can provide a forever permanent home/foster home to an affectionate, young, solo cat who deserves a chance at not having to be abandoned again.

Lotus, giving the stink eye to her foster carers as they pack their suitcases to go away 😆

No but seriously, it must be frightening for her, twice before in her life her people have given her up, walked away from her. For no reason that she could ever understand. Wouldn't it be great if she found her forever home and never had to watch her people walk away again?

Please comment if you can provide a forever home to an affectionate, middle aged, solo cat who deserves better 💗

Here are some snapshots of the current Cottage Cats at our shelter. 🐈🥰

Let's begin with Tux, the Lord of the Cottage. He's a cool cat indeed, and oh so majestic!

Meet Andie, the charming black kitty who's a special long-term resident at the shelter. Next up is Cherry Blossom, whose stunning coat is simply irresistible.

The boys in the crate, Rommy, Disco, and Potter, seem oblivious to the concept of personal space, often found snuggled up together. 🩶🤍🤎

Shayla has claimed a new bed, donated by a generous volunteer, while Tux patiently awaits his turn.

For Robbie (who has since been adopted) and Potter, it's all about birdwatching, with Cherry Blossom observing the duo's fascination.

Swifty, also known as Princess, graces us with her presence, basking in the morning sun.

After breakfast, Shayla has a knack for finding the coziest spots to relax.

And then there's Thor, the big fellow who fancies himself a deity. One look at him, and you'll understand why! 😘

For more details on any of these feline friends, feel free to reach out to us! 🐾

We are delighted to introduce Mr. Magoo, who has recently become a part of our shelter following a period of rehabilitation in foster care.

Mr. Magoo possesses a distinctive personality and exhibits his unique characteristics with confidence.

He is an autonomous and inquisitive soul who takes pleasure in discovering his environment. His affection for playing with soft balls is notable; toss one his way, and he will promptly pursue, capture, and engage with it.

Is your home the ideal haven for this endearing fellow? If you believe so, we are confident Magoo would be thrilled to make your acquaintance. 🥰

SAVED from a Rural Pound, Ben & Jerry are a dynamic duo who bring twice the love and fun.

They are incredibly affectionate and love to snuggle together, often found curled up in a cozy spot or chasing each other around in playful spurts. Both boys are very social and enjoy the company of their humans. They communicate their needs and affections through a series of adorable meows and purrs, and their expressive eyes are always full of love and gratitude. They enjoy interactive playtime, especially with feather toys or laser pointers, which keeps them entertained and active.

FOSTER CARERS NEEDED

We've had a foster carer cancel for this little family, can you help? We can split up the kittens to 2 and 2, and mum could be fostered with them or separately.

Please comment if you're in the Geelong area and can take these cuties ♡

Update - Hope has an adoption pending and if that doesn't go ahead has a foster home ready. Thanks for the shares everyone ♡
-----------
URGENT - FOSTER HOME NEEDED FOR SWEET, GENTLE HOPE 🙏

Hope's foster carer is relocating in a matter of days and can't take Hope with her. Returning to our shelter would be hugely detrimental for Hope as she finds it extremely stressful and shuts down, spending all her time hiding which as you can see from these beautiful photos she doesn't do in a home.

If she has to come back to us it will undo all the progress made by her dedicated carer. Please, if you have a quiet home with either no pets or another gentle kitty, help this deserving little girl not suffer the immense stress of returning to us, as much as we love our shelter it's not the place for some.

To foster, adopt, or or foster-with-view-to-adopt please comment and we will contact you.

Cottage Tales: The Adoptable Series

Meet Poppy, a loving and confident girl who we adopted out when she was a kitten and has come back to us after being surrendered to a shelter for reasons unrelated to her.

We offer a lifetime guarantee to take our animals back if they ever need to be rehomed again so it's a bit of a shock when we find out one has ended up at a pound, wandering the streets or with someone we didn't adopt them out to. Circumstances change, we understand, but please don't feel ashamed if you have adopted an animal and can no longer take care of it, ALWAYS contact the rescue organisation they came from first as it will be the safest option for them.

Luckily for Poppy she was still microchpped to us so we were called when she was surrendered, had her adopter changed her chip we never would have known she needed our help 😳 We strongly believe it should be mandatory on microchips that if an animal has come from a rescue, that history is retained on the microchip when a transfer of ownership is completed. This way rescue animals who've already done the hard yards at a shelter or in foster care can avoid having to go through that again, by the rescue being notified the animal is homeless and taking it back. That's how we believe the system should work, what do you think?

Poppy adores receiving pats and giving affectionate head bonks. She is content to purr throughout the day, knead her paws in delight, and offer her sweetest squinty-eyed look. She loves to snuggle on a soft, cozy blanket laid over you.

Poppy would thrive as the sole pet in a home where she can enjoy her personal space and have someone around most of the time, but would be fine with an easy going cat or possibly doggo.

Could your home be the purrfect match for this endearing cat? If so, we are sure Poppy would love to meet you. 🥰

URGENT - Hope's foster carer who has been wonderful for her is relocating and cannot take Hope with her. Returning to our shelter would be hugely detrimental for Hope, she becomes overwhelmed and shut down there, spending all her time hiding which as you can see from these beautiful photos she doesn't do in a home. If she has to come back to us it will undo all the progress made by her dedicated carer.. 🐈

Should you wish to skip fostering and straight out adopt her, that would be a wonderful as well, or we can mix the two and offer foster-with-view-to-adopt so you can get to know her first 🥰

Please help Hope find somewhere other than our shelter.

Congratulations, Barry!
We're so happy that you have found a home where you can relax, be yourself, and never again have to worry about life in the shelter or, even worse, on the streets.
You will be lovingly missed by all the volunteers. We look forward to many updates from your new family.
Enjoy, sweet man. 😻

Barry has lots of friends in our cat cottage.
We would love to find homes for many more.

Cat Cottage Tales: The Adoptable Series

Meet Hope, a beautiful cat with a heartwarming story and an incredible journey from street life to becoming the affectionate, fully house-trained pet she is today.

Hope's story is one of resilience and transformation. Rescued from a difficult life on the streets, she has spent years in rehabilitation, learning to trust and love humans again. Her journey has been nothing short of miraculous, and she has emerged from her past with a gentle and loving nature that is truly remarkable. 🥰

Hope is a gentle, attentive girl who has so much love to give. She will wait at the door for you to come home, eager to greet you with her sweet, soft meows. As you settle in for the evening, she will talk to you, sharing her day and listening to yours with a calm and soothing presence.

Her favourite way to spend time with you on the couch is to climb up your body, rub her little face against yours, and bow her head for forehead kisses. This endearing behaviour is just one of the many ways Hope shows her affection and connection to her human companions.

Hope has shown a lot of interest in befriending neighbour’s cats and previously lived harmoniously with other felines at our shelter. She would be thrilled to join a family with an existing gentle cat, enjoying the company and companionship of a fellow feline friend. Her presence can also be a calming influence on other cats, helping to create a peaceful and loving environment. 🐈

If you are interested in adopting Hope and providing her with the loving home she deserves, please contact our shelter. We will be happy to arrange a meeting and provide you with all the information you need to welcome Hope into your family.

This Christmas, make a difference in Hope's life and yours by opening your heart and home to this wonderful cat.
