Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity with a network of foster homes across Melbourne and Geelong, and a No Kill, volunteer run shelter in Lara, Victoria. We focus predominantly on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of street-born cats, as well as dogs not being picked up by other rescue organisations, arranged for euthanasia by owners and vets have intervened, and greyhounds exited from t

he racing industry. We are 100% volunteer run and self/community funded, please read on to find out more about our important work and how you can help. MORE ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
Our Stray Cat Rehabilitation Centre, was purpose built by previous owners to house the breeding of German Shepherds. In 2017 we gained ownership of the property and developed this building into 'The Cat Cottage’, which provides long term housing in bright, colourful, fully enclosed group pens capable of housing 8 cats each, in a tranquil setting surrounded by nature. We take in full stray cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, orphaned kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats who are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned - we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats are true strays, as opposed to owned cats who have ended up in traps. ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
Given we take in dogs who most often have ended up homeless due to behaviour issues, some minor, some serious, most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption. We have all our dogs assessed by professional dog trainers, with some going on to have extensive behaviour work whilst in our care. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour as well as ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dog adoptions is very important to us because we refuse to see our dogs end up back in the system. Because of this we rarely have dogs returned, but to ensure we can help our dogs for the entirety of their life if for some reason their adopter is no longer able to love and care for them, we offer a lifetime guarantee to accept them back no matter what the reason, age of the dog at this stage, or health status. The few dogs we've had returned in our 5 years (as of 2022) have been due to no fault of their own and have been easily re-adopted into new homes where they have stayed.

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:
 to remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they never breed return to the street again,
 to demonstrate the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
 to educate the community on the stray cat problem in Australia and that desexing is the only way to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
 to physically and psychologically rehabilitate dogs and cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
 to provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn high level animal husbandry and handling which may assist their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
 to provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool skills for the betterment of animals who may otherwise be stuck in the system or lose their life. WE NEED YOUR HELP

❗️Foster carer needed

This sweet girl is one of our recent death row rescues from a pound - set to be euthanised to make space. We had a foster home arranged for her but it fell through and she's been in a home since where she's struggling coping with the 4 cats there, she's nervous of them so they're nervous of her and it's not working. She's fine with the 2 dogs though. And has met a child and been lovely.

Can you provide a home without cats? Foster or forever home is fine by us. Angie is desexed, house trained and extremely sweet.

Blueberry and LollyPop a total smoochers and LollyPol adore cuddles! They're vetworked and will be available this Sunday in Avalon.

UPDATE ON LATEST DEATH ROW KITTIES

A few weeks ago we put a call out for urgent foster homes for the latest death row cats we were taking in - kitties who had nothing wrong with them but had found themselves at rural pounds that accept unwanted animals but have no adoption programs. You'd think all Aussie pounds would legally have to provide a lost animals holding service for people looking for missing pets, PLUS a rehoming service for pets not picked up by owners or that have been officially surrendered. Nope!

Some rural pounds have no rehoming program at all; no way for the public to meet homeless animals and offer them a home. Instead the pounds try to secure rescue orgs to take the animals and us rescues stare at innocent faces on computer screens trying to figure out how to save them all.

The recent group we took included 18 kittens and 2 adults. Here are some pics of them loving life in their wonderful foster homes!

A lot of work comes with such a large intake. A buge thanks to our awesome Death Row team of foster carers, transporters, admin volunteers, Petstock South Geelong who do a fantastic job with our cats up for adoption in their in-store enclosure, and Vet Hospital who care for our animals. Stately gentleman of 16 years seeking sophisticated, luxurious home with established, in-house servants🎩😆

You might remember some weeks ago we posted that 16 year old Bracken needed an urgent foster home to save him from being euthanised? He was so broken after being dumped at a pound when his person died that he'd stopped eating and had to be hospitalised for severe dehydration. The pound had regrettably decided euthanasia was going to be the kindest thing.

Well when you guys, our supporters heard this you came to the rescue and he had foster placement within an hour! Since going to wonderful Meg he's gained back his strenght and will to live. We have him booked for some dental and arthritis treatment Feb 13 then will be available for adoption. To enquire please message our page.

Young Lewis, one of our recent Death Row pound saves, is nearly ready for adoption but we've had an interesting delay... we can't find any testicles or sign they've been removed! 🍒

We've done all kinds of tests and examinations and not been able to be sure, so are now waiting for blood results which will clarify things and then it's likely he'll need quite intensive surgery to go searching for his precious jewels. Once his treasure is donated to medical waste 💰🏥 this absolute smoocher of a youngster will be ready for his forever home. However we'd love to get him out of our shelter sooner so if you'd like to foster or foster with view to adopt this beautiful boy please contact us or comment on this post 😍

Amarina has come a long way in her foster home, showing even more than before that she is a loving, affectionate girl. Enjoying naps on a comfy couch, in sunny places, or in your bed. She is content to lounge around during the day.

In her foster home, she has warmed to the large, quiet, cat-friendly dog, but she was wary at first so may need an understanding slow introduction. She will stay lying on the bed if the 10yo child comes to lay down and watch videos quietly.

Amarina is very content with the indoor cat life, does not try to rush out a door, but would love a window where she could watch the birds outside or life go by.

Do you think that Amarina sounds great? She is. We would love to find her forever home.

We've been waiting months to find our family :( But we understand it's because they don't know we exist yet, we know once they see us they'll be exicited to meet us! Please help them see us online by sharing our post 🙏 Best friends Odie, 1.5 and Yuki, 3, take unconditional love to another level. We've never seen so much gentleness and acceptance between two dogs, they're so comfortable in each other's space they're almost one body with two heads 😆 To people they're smoochy, gentle, affectionate and well behaved, and genuine lap dogs; they'll climb into your lap at every opportunity and fall asleep 💗 Yuki is incredibly smart and would be fantastic at something like agility. Odie has a funny habit of walking into the space between your legs with his head and torso pointing out the back of you and his backend pointing out the front of you, and just standing there 😆 They're more suited to a home with daily walks in the neighborhood and playtime at home than runs off lead at a dog park or beach, but would enjoy being part of a dog walking group and this would easily meet their socialisation needs. Kids? Probably above age 10 is best given their size. Cats? They've shown some lovely behaviour towards cats but would still need careful introductions. This deeply loving, bonded pair are going to make a family or couple extremely happy. We know they're going to complete your home and bring something special to your life. When you're deep in thought, she'll nudge you back to reality with soft headbutts, a gentle reminder of her presence and the unconditional love and support only a pet can offer. She communicates with endearing trills and expressive flicks of her bushy tail. While she's not snuggling on your lap or cozying up beside you, she amuses herself with tiny felt balls or crinkly packing paper.
