Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity with a network of foster homes across Melbourne and Geelong, and a No Kill, volunteer run shelter in Lara, Victoria. We focus predominantly on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of street-born cats, as well as dogs not being picked up by other rescue organisations, arranged for euthanasia by owners and vets have intervened, and greyhounds exited from t

he racing industry. We are 100% volunteer run and self/community funded, please read on to find out more about our important work and how you can help. MORE ABOUT OUR WORK WITH CATS:
Our Stray Cat Rehabilitation Centre, was purpose built by previous owners to house the breeding of German Shepherds. In 2017 we gained ownership of the property and developed this building into 'The Cat Cottage’, which provides long term housing in bright, colourful, fully enclosed group pens capable of housing 8 cats each, in a tranquil setting surrounded by nature. We take in full stray cat colonies, pregnant and nursing mothers, orphaned kittens, FIV positive cats, and sick or injured cats who are humanely trapped after being identified as un-owned - we don't take in domesticated cats and have extensive processes to ensure cats are true strays, as opposed to owned cats who have ended up in traps. ABOUT OUR WORK WITH DOGS:
Given we take in dogs who most often have ended up homeless due to behaviour issues, some minor, some serious, most of our dogs are with us for extended periods to ensure we know them really well before putting them up for adoption. We have all our dogs assessed by professional dog trainers, with some going on to have extensive behaviour work whilst in our care. We provide full discretion with adopters about dogs' health and behaviour as well as ongoing support to integrate adopted dogs into new homes, families and lifestyles. The success and longevity of our dog adoptions is very important to us because we refuse to see our dogs end up back in the system. Because of this we rarely have dogs returned, but to ensure we can help our dogs for the entirety of their life if for some reason their adopter is no longer able to love and care for them, we offer a lifetime guarantee to accept them back no matter what the reason, age of the dog at this stage, or health status. The few dogs we've had returned in our 5 years (as of 2022) have been due to no fault of their own and have been easily re-adopted into new homes where they have stayed.

* Note we provide this policy for our cats also

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE:
 to remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they never breed return to the street again,
 to demonstrate the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
 to educate the community on the stray cat problem in Australia and that desexing is the only way to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
 to physically and psychologically rehabilitate dogs and cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
 to provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn high level animal husbandry and handling which may assist their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
 to provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool skills for the betterment of animals who may otherwise be stuck in the system or lose their life. WE NEED YOUR HELP

A heartfelt thankyou to the anonymous donor who popped these items and accompanying letter into our donation bin at Coles, Lara. We are so sorry for your loss and honored to share the thoughtful treats you picked out for your sweet boy with our shelter cats who have their own challenges either physical or emotional.

Thankyou for thinking of us, there were a few tears shed by a few of our team when we read your letter ♡

Amarina has come a long way in her foster home, showing even more than before that she is a loving, affectionate girl. Enjoying naps on a comfy couch, in sunny places, or in your bed. She is content to lounge around during the day.

In her foster home, she has warmed to the large, quiet, cat-friendly dog, but she was wary at first so may need an understanding slow introduction. She will stay lying on the bed if the 10yo child comes to lay down and watch videos quietly.

Amarina is very content with the indoor cat life, does not try to rush out a door, but would love a window where she could watch the birds outside or life go by.

Do you think that Amarina sounds great? She is. We would love to find her forever home.

URGENT FOSTER HOMES NEEDED TO SAVE KITTENS FROM BEING EUTHANISED

As usual, this week we were sent a list of cats and kittens currently at rural pounds who have bothered to go and space is needed to accept nore as they come in, so the solution is to eutjamise everyone they can't get rescue orgs to take of their hands. We weren't going to take any this week as we're very full but noticed other rescues were not able to either and this meant several litters if kittens would need to be killed. So we said yes!

They arrive late this afternoon and we need as many.of them to go to homes as possible otherwise it will be alot of kittens in our emergency hold pen and not sustainable.

We will pay for all medical care, desexing etc, and put you in touch with our team to arrange adoption profiles etc, all we need from you is to provide separate room (at least at rhe start) in your home, food and litter.

Kittens can go singularly to homes with existing friendly pets but to homes with no pets they will be in twos in order to ensure they have a friend to play with.

If you can help and get to us in Avalon tonight, or are home tomorrow to receive a kitty it two transported to you, please comment your DEFINITE willingness to take them.

This is urgent guys! Please help us save these lives but spread the load so it doesn't send our shelter processes into disarray from huge numbers.

Look who's been adopted?

Afrer a year with us in care and us making the decision to separate her and her son, Odie because as much as they were bonded it was becoming more and more obvious Yuki would love a home where she could get all the love. And with her background, living down the side of a house as a neglected breeding machine, we decided she deserved that. So here she is in her new home being absolutely adored by her two new humans! She's doing amazing we're so happy for her ♡

🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Odie was a bit sad and confused for a day but bounced back quickly and is loving getting all the attention in his foster home! He's now also available for adoption and is the last photo in this post.

More about Odie:
Odie loves kids, is cat friendly, dog friendly and would love a gentle, playful dog to wrestle and cuddle with. His personality is naturally soft hearted and gentle, affectionate and loves being right up close and touching with those he loves - animal or human - and goofy with toys as an 18 month old teen should be. He's a big boy at 35kg but his calm, quiet, gentle energy giving him the presence of a less large dog. He loves to be on your lap or have his feet or head on you in some way and to spoon you in bed or on the couch. He's a beautifully natured, easy to do everything with, loving boy who will bond deeply with his new family and bring many years of joy and laughter ♡

DO YOU LOVE CATS AND WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF KITTIES WHO HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO?

We have 85 cats in care including many needing foster (or foster to adopt) homes. Can you provide a few weeks or months for one or more of the below innocent babies?

Charlie
British shorthair, dog friendly, not cet friendly, cuddly and playful. Charlie is struggling since her owner moved to a smaller home and she's no longer allowed outside. This doesn't mean she won't cope as an inside cat in foster care, majority of cats we take in have lived outside and now live 24/7 inside and are perfectly fine.

Taco
Handsome tabby boy, small dog friendly, not cat friendly. Super snuggly, loves zoomies, used to being inside. Person doesn't haven't time to spend with him.

Sushi
Fluffy ginger who's person is about to move away in a week and can't take him. Cuddly, gentle. Needs to be an only cat.

Swifty
Darling little girl who loves pats and scritches and is getting used to being picked up. Loves other cats, playing with toys and spending time with people. She's a little stressed at our shelter and would love to be back in a home

Russia
Handsome Russian Blue who's background is unknown and we're finding it hard to get to know him at our shelter as he's overwhelmed and hiding. It's very possible he's more socialised than we're able to see. Also needs to be in a home so we can observe him moving around to better see a lack of mobility in his back leg from an old injury.

Buddy
An older boy who came in with a stray colony but turned out to be totally friendly and loves people, toys, talking, and his one-eyed mate, Figaro (also needing foster care).

Skinny Girl
An older lady, possibly Buddy's sister who also came in with a stray colony and hasn't come out of her shell but we suspect may be socialised yet too overwhelmed to show it yet. She can be patted and is very sweet, just needs a quiet room in a home and someone to show her some love and time.

Elsa
Another sweet girl from the stray colony but is pattable and a sweet little darling. Her health improved initially after coming into care but is now going downhill a bit again due to a busy shelter environment.

Plus others. For the shy cats, often putting a shy and a friendly together can be great for them as the friendly helps the shy build confidence and the shy is great company for the friendly when foster carers aren't home, so we'd happily metch up 2 cats and be ever so appreciative if you're able to take 2. We understand that's not for everyone though.

We want you to enjoy and feel you're a making a difference by fostering. For you - which of the above foster cats or type of cat best fits your home and lifestyle? Please comment below and we'll contact you to chat about how you can help our beautiful cats 🥰

"I'm honestly blown away by just how perfect he is as a cat. He's so good for all of our mental health because he's just so sweet and cute and affectionate. I've never loved a cat so much and I've had a few".

Young Stormie was rehomed early this year after being transferred to us from the wonderful team at Ballarat Animal Shelter. We were very taken with him and knew he'd make a family very happy. According to this text message from his new mum he didn't disappoint! 🥰🐈‍⬛🐾

We dropped into Kardinia Vet recently with one of our animals as the clinic is fantastic for walkins (no appointment). Not only were we seen quickly and the dog's issue expertly diagnosed and treated, we were also proud to see our donation tin and brochures displayed on their counter! Don't they look good 😎

If you're looking for a vet clinic that's been in Geelong for decades and provides a great service, try Kardinia next time you have a pet emergency 🐾💗🐕🐈‍⬛
