✌️ Double For The Boys ✌️
Trinder Racing took 9 gallopers to the last Devonport Racing Club at Ladbrokes All Weather Spreyton meeting for a couple of months and took home a winning double thanks to a pair of talented geldings.
Recent acquisition Night Action (4g Savabeel x Yu Long Bao Ma) scored his second Tasmanian win with a dominant performance in the Tasmanian Horse Transport Class 1 Handicap over 1350m.
The gelding we call Kermit landed in a nice trailing position on the fence behind what was a genuine tempo. Despite hitting a bit of a flat spot as the leader clicked up around the bend, he got a beautiful run through and had plenty of room to balance up on straightening. With a strong finishing burst he put the race to bed pretty quickly and went on to score by a widening 2 and a half length margin.
The overall time of 1:21.11 was faster than average for this grade and while it clocked in about 6 lengths slower than the Benchmark 68 later in the day, it was only about 8 lengths outside the track record. Night Action’s last 400m of 24.08 seconds ranked 25th on the program, showing a finishing speed which will be valuable if he can stretch out to longer distances as we hope.
We congratulate all the winning connections on Kermit’s 2nd win at his 4th Tasmanian start. Purchased online for $22,500 as a tried horse, he has now earned over $36,000 in his first prep for us and we hope he can continue his promising form as he rises in grade. Our thanks go to Anthony Darmanin for a terrific winning ride from last season’s premiership winning rider.
Our second winner on the program was Sharma’s Last (5g Needs Further x Sharma Magic), who charged home to score a comfortable win in the Kevin Sharkie Benchmark 68 Handicap over 1350m.
With talented apprentice Jackson Radley in the saddle, Wesley settled nicely behind a strong tempo. He had to make his run three-wide around the bend while the pressure was on and still had a good 5-6 lengths to make up on straightening. Despite carrying 60.5kg and covering ground around the bend, he stayed on strongly and powered to the lead inside the final 100m to win by nearly 2 lengths.
The strong tempo contributed to a very fast overall time of 1:20.04, which was less than 2 lengths outside Dothraki Princess’ 5 year track record. While there were no sectionals recorded for Sharma’s Last, hand timing suggests all of his splits from the 800m mark ranked in the top 10 on the day, backing up the slick times he ran in his first up win.
Our congratulations go to owner Mrs Joy Belkner, who’s Wesley has now won 7 of his 15 starts and over $150,000 in prizemoney. He has a special liking for his home track at Devonport, having won 6 of his 8 starts here, and Adam mentioned post race that consideration will be given to having another try at the local Cup later in the season. We thank Jackson for an excellent ride in which he summed the pace up nicely and timed his finish to perfection.
