A MASSIVE UPDATE

Since early 2020, you all have responded amazingly to our rescue, learning about our rats and supporting our goals with the same passion we have and I can't thank you all enough. So it is bitter sweet that come the 1st of April, we will be closing the rescue for the foreseeable future and will no longer be operating as such.

We will still be keeping this page live and Little Beans Rattery Tasmania will still be continuing at a smaller scale so you will not need to scramble to find your next ratty friends or information.
I will still always be here to honor our previous adopters, agreements and to help the Tasmanian community with their care questions!

We have been struggling to keep the rescue open for some months now due to costs, space and time restrictions and donations helped us to keep going but we need to think long term and as of right now, long term, the rescue isn't viable right now. I have hopes of re-opening in the future if we can find a home with the space that allows even our small scale.

IF you need rescue, still reach out as I have links to people who may still be able to help you and if your rats were purchased through Little Beans Rattery Tasmania, we will take them back, no questions!

Again, I want to thank you all for this opportunity to help rats, combat mills and share a passion. The love I have for these animals and the community we have created together hasn't at all changed and I hope to reignite when the time is right again. Good morning everyone!

When it rains, it really pours. After a good while, we have found ourselves in need of donations today.

As some of you know, when it comes to the financial side of our rescue, we scrape by using services such as vet pay and after pay for our larger/bulk costs such as vet bills or food and bedding. The rest out of our pockets. This past month has pushed us to exhaust these options.

The past 2 months have been stressful and emotional at the least.
We have lost 6 rats this month. Of the 6 rats we lost, we attempted to save 2 with vet treatment. Together, these ladies cost us roughly $120 each + consultation fees and later due to failed treatments and ongoing suffering, we then had to pay for the euthanasia. 2 more of the 6 were sudden deaths and the last 2 were aggression/terminal illness related and we opted to euthanize.

Now, we currently have 3-4 more ratties needing medical treatment that have cropped up this week.

We then had a mite outbreak here which was the first in about a year. We quickly got it under control, however it was breathtaking sudden cost after so many vet bills. We also had to dispose of a lot of our new natural accessories because of this and had to buy new replacements (we still haven’t been able to repurchase everything yet).

With these back-to-back events, the food and bedding and other necessities didn’t stop needing to be funded.
We still have 10 adult females, 6 adult males, 4 female babies and 4 male babies up for adoption.*

Unfortunate Update:

We must remind everyone that falsifying, lying or being deceitful in order to get you hands on our rats is not only never going to be tolerated but it is in our terms and conditions that all adopters agree to adhere by. You will be banned.

We care about our rats and the people who have had to surrender them trust that we will ensure that their animals end up in great homes. We do fact check and request extra information if something doesn't add up during the process. We will always find out if we have been lied to.

Due to the high influx of surrenders in the new year, we are aiming to completely clear our surrender cages and find our ratties new homes asap. We are currently Closing to surrenders.

We have several ladies and several boys waiting far too long for a family, some having been with us upwards of 6 months now!

Here's our Christmas update - please read if you've got a second 🐀💕

Firstly, thank you all for an amazing year or rescue, rehabilitation and adoptions! The Little Dreams community we have built together have made it possible to keep our rescue going! 2021 has exceeded our expectations and homed out 126 ratties and retired 3 into permanent residency 😍

Secondly, last year's Christmas bought us a whopping 68 rats over only 2 months post Christmas. Many of these were unwanted Christmas presents. The post Christmas wave is the hardest part of rescue as we want to be able to facilitate all surrenders. Here, even the smallest donations help us more than you could believe!

While before Christmas we do our best to make sure potential adopters are aware that animals are not gifts, we still meet this issue over Jan - March when the novelty has worn off.
