COMPETITION GUIDELINES
These rules apply to all competitors, organisers, judges and stewards. The TasGroom Dog Grooming Competition does not condone any type of bullying, hate speech or slander inside or outside the ring or on social media. If Bullying has taken place by a contestant to another contestant the complaint must be in writing and if found to be proven the contestant may be non- awarded

or banned from entering further events. Contestants, dogs and tools must be in the ring 30 minutes prior to the start of the competition. At the completion of the contest (when allocated time is finished) all hair and grooming equipment must be removed from the table. A comb of your choice is to be placed on the front of the table for the judge. Dogs should be stacked/standing for the judges. Contestant’s tablecloths may have contestant’s business name advertised on it. Dogs must be allowed to relax once judging is completed, and deliberations are underway. Dogs must not be forced to stand for 4 hours. During the competition, Contestants are:
- to lead with a good example to others.
- not allowed to talk to other contestants and the audience.
- found guilty of breaking this rule (may be stripped of their award or on the spot disqualification).
- not allowed to use electronic devices or mobile phones in the ring during the competition while competing except to take before and after photos. Contestants showing aggressive language and rough handling towards dogs and judges will be immediately disqualified. Contestants must be sober and the consumption of alcohol and/or other substances is not permitted during the competition. All judges’ decisions are final and any complaints must be in writing and a fee to lodge the grievance of $250 will be charged. Sponsored Groomers
Sponsored Groomers may compete if the company sponsoring them also sponsors the competition. Sponsored groomers may not compete if they are a relation to a judge, a sponsor or the judge is the employee or owner of the company sponsoring the competition, and the judge is also sponsored or affiliated with the company in a financially beneficial manner including supply of free products. Grooming apparel may have sponsorship and business name advertised on it, however contestants are to publicly acknowledge competition sponsors for any prizes won or they are not to accept prizes. Photos must be taken clearly displaying Sponsor’s donated prizes. We appreciate groomers are sponsored however if sponsors choose not to sponsor an event it is only reasonable to expect those who do, are acknowledged and thanked publicly. At least one social media post or photo displaying prizes is required after the competition for all majors prize winners. If the company sponsoring does not permit this, the prizes will be given to the runner up. The placing may be kept. DOGS

Dog must be of an age appropriate for competition. Although each dog is individual, the suggested appropriate age is between approximately 1 year and 10 years. Dogs must have 6 weeks coat or sufficient coat to make a significant difference. Dogs-
Must appear healthy, in good condition and free of infectious disease and parasites. Must not show obvious signs of pregnancy or nursing. Must not show signs of viciousness or aggression. All individual class rules are provide on TasGroom Facebookpage under the class icon. Please read before registering and purchasing tickets. Coats should be free from clipper marks, scissor marks, stripping holes. Any injuries to dogs must be brought to the attention of contest organisers or judges immediately to assess if veterinary attention is required or retirement from the competition. Dogs exhibiting pain, discomfort or distress must be relaxed and advice sought from judges and officials. All dogs are to be pre-washed, dried and combed through; free from knots and matting. Dont be shy to do something a little different. We all love a beautiful poodle trim, but everyone is welcome (as long as the rules can be followed for the safety and comfort of all dogs and humans involved).

Below: Phil was entered into Gundog and had a big de-shed, an overlooked skill in grooming competitions.
On the day, we also had a greyhound and a sharpei x for de-shed.

We have an international judge for you this year - so excited for all of you. A once in a lifetime opportunity to have Blake Hernandez come to Tasmania all the way from USA

Tickets and entries will open around 30th April

We have a minor adjustment to the schedule this year.

I know some have asked for 3 sessions, we do not have enough time being a 1 day public event to hold 3 or 4 time sessions.

Now is time to plan and source dogs. Read our mini guide for tips or reach out if you have questions.

Sunday 10th November we will be holding a Seminar with Blake (details to come).

That’s a wrap.

What a wonderful group of competitors and supporters. Not one competitor had competed before.

Congratulations to each and every competitor today. All of you were so kind and gentle to your dogs and the grooms were stunning. There must be something in the water here as all of the dogs coats looked beautiful.

Thank you to Tas Pet Expo for hosting us and your fantastic ground crew.

Lynne Bower Cpg Christina Beecroft great job co organising the event sponsors and marketing.
Travelling from up north and then competing as well.

Donna Cusbert travelled from Sydney to help - you are the best floor manager, photographer, competitor support, organiser of tables, distribution of awards and treats and just bringing your big heart and personality to the ring
You are a machine and have every ones back!

Thank you to your assistant Esh who ran multiple errands for us and helped a great deal.

Judges Tamara James (Tasmania )and Dani Segal (Melbourne )
Both former Representatives of Australia in The World Grooming Championships with Tamara being on the Australian Team that took out The Best in The worlds

You have Absolute integrity and give wonderful critiques. Your judging was meticulous and your knowledge impeccable. Your decisions imparted fairly and fantastic time management.

And finally I rarely do this but I’m going to say that traveling interstate to an unknown event with a guide dog and two suitcases to run this event, despite low entries, being sick twice in the lead up, running multiple businesses and events, still having a life with my friends and family and investing $$ to make this happen and let’s not forget in the face of criticism in this industry - I’m proud of myself
For having the courage to go forward and make this event happen for the groomers of Tasmania who have long been overlooked.
I don’t need to be the biggest or the best because I do this from my heart for our industry because competing has brought so much to me personally and professionally. I truly love seeing how much ps lives can change by overcoming fears and pushing yourself to excel.

If you take a leap and stop worrying about what people say and think and just step out of your comfort zone it’s increasingly what you can acheive.

Seeing all the happy faces and proud groomers makes everything worthwhile!

Also thank you Lynne for deshedding Phil for me!

Ps I did get one photo of you Donna

Congratulations on your placings and for being such a great sport and always smiling.

Congratulations on your placings and for being such a great sport and always smiling.

I am so proud of myself. I came second in salon freestyle with the most handsome boy Teddy. I also came first in the model dog and actually got best in group model dog. Thank you to all the TasGroom team for putting on such an amazing event. For the pep talks before the competition even started to the feed back today. I big shout out to the sponsors as well. I am so excited to see what happens with tassie grooming competitions.
I also want to make a big shout out to the lovely Hayley Little Red Hen Grooming Co. Who supplied me with the model dog. Congratulations on you amazing groom and I am so happy you came 1st, best in group and runner up best in show. Well done so well deserved.
