Your HELP is needed!

As some may know Bear & I are working towards our operational status for scent specific training with K9 Trackers PERTH.

This means when loved ones go missing we may be called upon to conduct a search for a member of the public.

To do this I need people willing to volunteer their time to be track layers.

Preferably weekends, near Kwinana and surrounding southern suburbs.

If you’re willing, drop your name in the comments below.

The Adolescent Developmental Phase.

A post from the late Sam Turner 💕

Developmental stages: adolescence

Looking at dogs (or any living being actually) there are developmental stages that they go through before they are mature. Some of these stages we know a lot of when looking at training. Just look at all the information we can find on the development of puppies when it comes to socialisation phases. Each of the developmental stages have their own set of changes that the individual will go through physically and mentally. Not always easy for the individual and not always easy to see for us. And by that I mean that we don't always see wat is right before our eyes.

Adolescence is one of those phases where not everyone is as well prepared as we would like. There are so many changes happening that it is not always easy to keep up or see them for what they are: development.
One of the most important things to remember is that even though a young dog is bigger and therefore starts to look like the finished product, he or she is by no means finished. The body may be bigger but the musculature and skeleton and everything associated with this is not yet fully grown. Muscles are thin, bones are not yet fully developed which means the bodies cannot be approached as being finished.

Besides the body there is also the mental aspect. Youngers are dealing with the world. They are not yet at the stage where they are ok with everything in it. They can be insecure, prone to high arousal and emotional outbursts. A lot of the time not yet capable of behaving like an adult because they simply are not adults yet. They need time to develop mentally as well as physically.

Taking time and care to offer exercise and training that suits the body and mind in this phase can be a challenge. It can be very tempting to start adding exercise that can be just a little too much for a developing body. Training sessions can become longer or more intense and that can be fine one day but not so fine the next. Every individual is different but they all have in common that they are not yet finished. And keeping that in mind we need to look at what we want to do with youngsters and when. Take into account that a young no fully developed body simply cannot do and handle what an adult body can. This does not mean they won't do it but it does mean that the body will be affected more. The joints, bones, tendons and muscles and also the brain will be affected with what we ask and offer.

As a comparison: We make adjustments for human youngsters in sports to compensate for their not yet fully developed body and strength. And do we let human youngsters compete against adults in sports? Time to look at the developmental stages a bit more closely and adjust our ideas on what to do when with dogs.

Such a sensible approach to teaching dogs to be snake aware and avoid vs most offerings currently available.

If you want to know how you can learn to teach your dog to detect a snake and avoid potential harm or worse, drop me a message through Fb and i'll tell you how this can happen.

"Why Rely on Sight Alone When Your Dog's Superpower Is Their Nose? Teach Your Dog to Smell Danger Before It's Too Late!"

When it comes to snake avoidance training, most programs teach dogs to see a snake and then ZAP! A - we never zap —but what if seeing the snake is already too late? 🐍

Our snake avoidance training is different. We teach your dog to use their strongest sense: their sense of smell. Dogs have an incredible ability to detect scents that we can’t even imagine, and we use that natural superpower to train them to identify the presence of two common snakes by scent alone.

Think about it—dogs can detect scents under water, track individuals years after their scent has dissipated, and even alert us to medical conditions. If they can do all that, why wouldn't we use this amazing ability to keep them safe from snakes?

I often take my dogs into the bush on long lines, and they're usually 10-13 meters ahead of me. That means I can't always see what's ahead—but they can smell it.

With this training, we want your dog to detect the scent before it ever gets close enough for visual contact. Imagine the peace of mind knowing your dog can sense a snake nearby and give you the warning you need—before it's too late.

The key here is training correctly and consistently. This isn’t a quick fix, and it shouldn’t be. Just like teaching a reliable recall or loose leash walking, it takes time, repetition, and proofing in real-life situations. That's why our program is 12 weeks long, giving your dog the time and practice needed to achieve lasting success. A quick 1-2 session package isn't enough—I care too much about your dog's safety and well-being to offer anything less.

Give your dog the skills to be truly snake-smart—using their best tool: their nose.

A TIME-SAVING NUTRITION SOLUTION WITH LYKA! - Starts Today!

What to feed our dogs has become such a complex and sometimes time consuming task, so.....

I’ve cut down the work for you and partnered with an Australian-based company called Lyka—you might have heard of them. They provide high-quality, well-priced, Australian-made food for dogs without the need for you to spend hours creating your own natural feeding regime.

My own dogs have been on Lyka for over 12 months, both on single protein diets due to food-related allergies. Since shifting to Lyka, the results have been amazing! Both dogs are thriving—shinier coats, more energy, and fewer allergy-related issues.
Lyka has made life easier for my dogs and me, and now, they’re offering clients and followers of Manners 'n' More Companion Dog Training a chance to try it out!

All you have to do is use the link below, and they’ll give you an unheard-of 50% discount on your first box. It’s a fantastic way to take the guesswork out of feeding and try something that’s natural and beneficial for your dog.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the confusing world of dog food, give Lyka a go. You—and your puppy—won’t regret it!
