Happy Friday from Dr Evan and these two sweeties 🥹❤️. Juno and Selkie were here for desexing recently, and were the bravest little buns. It helps to have some moral support 🐰. Too cute!

As the weather warms up, we will begin to see increases in heat stroke in clinics around the region. Factors such as obesity, age, coat, breed and overall health can influence your pet's susceptibility to heat stroke, and it's always better to be safe - and keep them indoors on hot days - than be sorry ❤️. Here is a great chart with some signs of heat stroke, and as you can see, it can get very serious (and, sometimes fatal...) very quickly. 🌞 Enjoy the approaching summer with your pet safely - chances are if you're a bit warm, they are too!

🚨 Heat Stroke in Dogs: Know the Signs! 🚨

As temperatures rise, it's important to be aware of the signs of heat stroke in dogs, a serious condition that can happen quickly and without warning. 🌞🐾

Signs to watch for:

🌡️ High body temperature
💦 Excessive panting or drooling
❤️ Rapid breathing or heart rate
😴 Weakness or lethargy
💩 Vomiting or diarrhea
🦷 Bright red or pale gums
🤯 Staggering or confusion

If your dog shows any of these symptoms, act fast: Move them to a cooler area, offer small amounts of water, and contact your vet immediately.

A very big happy birthday to our leading man, Dr Evan! 🐾 Evan has owned and operated Lennox Head Vet Clinic since 2008, but has been a vet in the Ballina Shire since 1990 (with a long history of practising in the UK and other parts of NSW prior). Whether you have a pedigree pooch, or a backyard chicken, Dr Evan loves and cares for ALL of his patients with empathy and enthusiasm 💜. How great is this X-ray of an expecting patient? 😍 Murtle the turtle had some X-rays today that confirmed that she was VERY pregnant 🤰. Unlike us, terrapins are only pregnant for about 2-3 months. Can you count how many eggs Murtle has onboard? 👀🥚

How cute is Gismo 🥹💘. Gismo was here recently with a very sore leg, that turned out to be an avulsion fracture of his tibial crest 🦴. This happens when the ligament that is attached to the patella is pulled off of the bone, usually during a fall, jump or rough-housing. Not an unusual injury in young, growing dogs like Gismo 🐶! Gismo had surgery with Dr Evan who repaired the bone and his patella tendon with a pin and tension-band wire 🔧. With some solid rest and rehab, Gismo should be back to normal in about a month's time. 🥰 You got this, Gismo!

These two! ❤️ Nellie and Cari were here this week after devouring the leather handle of their lead 😅🤦‍♀️. It wasn't very clear who the culprit was, so unfortunately both girlies had to come in and 'cough up' 🤢. The lead was retrieved, and these two silly billies went home A-OK and promised to keep out of trouble (at least for a little while 🙊).

Little Tiny needed some bloodwork done today, but despite lots of patience and love, she was still stressed out of her tiny little brain 🫨. Luckily, there are some great, quick, reversible 🔄 sedatives we can use in the vet world, which can help minimise fear and stress for sensitive souls like Tiny, making vet visits much more relaxing and reducing trauma for next time 💕. Tiny was happy and relaxed being cuddled by Nurse Sam, and barely noticed us taking blood 🙊. Sedatives aren't for everyone, and don't come without their risks - however, sometimes, they can be just magical ✨️ (ask Tiny 😂).

Happy Friday from chicken enthusiast Ted. Have you ever seen such aggressive begging?! 😂 We hear you, Ted! 🍗

We have some very clever patients here at Lennox Head Vet Clinic. 😍 Our good friend Cream showed off his skills this week with this excellent performance. ❤️ Give the dog an Oscar! 👏

The goodest boy 🥹. Nurse Piper's dog Archie was in hospital with us recently with this awful rash! 😭 Archie has allergies, and was having an allergic reaction to something he'd come into contact with 🌾. The nurses carefully clipped and cleaned his irritated areas, and he was given medication to help settle his skin down. Archie is doing much better and has promised to keep out of trouble. ❤️ Although as you can see, he doesn't seem too phased by the whole experience 😅. Got to love Retriever energy! 🐶

Mondays made better by puppies ✅️. Millie is the arm accessory we all need this winter! 😂💅 Such a cute girl.

Happy Friday from nurse Marcia, Vet Tech Sasha and gorgeous Lucy who was in hospital with us recently. ❤️ Holding your pet for catheter placements (and any of their treatments) usually just involves a big cuddle 🥰, and lots of check-ins with your pet to make sure they're feeling comfortable and not too stressed 🐶🐱. As a vet team, we often have some difficult, tiring and disgusting 🫣 tasks every now and then, but comforting your pets is always a huge highlight. 💕

We love our neigh-bours! 🐴 Sol and Zephyr having a lunchtime apple in the sun with our nurses 🍎. These boys are actually Dr Sophia's horses, and will often come over for a sticky beak to see what mum's up to. 😂 Two very loved and very happy horses!

Our heartfelt thanks goes to so many people, firstly the @vividsydney team, cinematographer @chrisbryanfilms, composer @jacksonmicomilas, bonsai artist Hugh Grant @tree_makers, producers @photoplayfilms, and bird trainers Ravi and Alex from @featheredfriendsbirdsanctuary who worked for months with the most beautiful birds, including the rescued Miss Brolga. The work will be found on Stargazers Lawn, Barangaroo, from 24 May until 15 June as part of Australia's largest festival of light.' Get down and enjoy! 🦢

A neat little snapshot of Penguin 🐔, prepped and ready for surgery last week! 👀 Like all of our patients, Penguin had a couple of different probes attached to measure her heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and end-tidal CO². Monitoring these vitals helped nurse Marcia manage her anaesthetic safely and effectively 💕, and allowed Dr Evan to safely complete his surgery with the peace of mind that Penguin was happily snoozing 😴.

Is there anything cuter than the happy, wiggly tail of a duck? 🙊 Here is one of our favourite patients Marjorie the Pekin duck strutting her stuff in the waiting room 😂💕. We see quite a few ducks here at Lennox Head Vet Clinic, but Marjorie is certainly one of the more confident girlies! 💅
