Duncan, a very green broken highland pony gelding, going for a splash in the dam on this very warm day. Watching from behind the ears of his full brother Guinness, who didn’t fancy getting his toes wet.
Happy Birthday Stirling! 2 years old and such a cool looking lad. To celebrate his birthday, here is a video of his birth.
Don’t mind the huffing and puffing. This was up the top of a very steep hill that I had just sprinted up 😅 Apparently if a mare shows no signs of foaling in the foaling yard, they will decide to lay down and foal the second they are let out!
With sick kids and a million things to organise this spring, I’ve been a bit slack on updating everyone on Duncan’s progress at Orange Oak Horsemanship. We had handover the other day which meant we got to ride and get to know Duncan as a pony who has now commenced his ridden journey. Thanks to Matt and Tyson for once again putting a solid start on another pony of ours and for Lauren for getting videos and updating us during the whole process.
This video is of Tyson riding Duncan and Matt riding Wilbur, the Shire, who was also there getting started under saddle.
Fitting in a little bit of training when I can. Only in a halter at the moment, but we now have a bit of direction, forwards and stopping, along with the leg aids that we’ve established with ground work first.
This was from the other day when the weather was tolerable! But Stirling is always happy to see me 🩵
Duncan going for a swim and snack!
Stirling and Guinness letting off a bit of steam in the cooler weather!
While I’m not able to ride for a little as I’m recovering from surgery, one of my longest friends, Amelia has been riding Guinness for me.
Guinness is starting to ask “what happens if I stop near the gate or turn into the middle of the arena” and here is Amelia working on impulsion and direction to show Guinness that he isn’t going to get a rest near the gate or in the centre of the arena.
Very happy with these two and thankful to get a talented rider to help me out! ❤️
And a nice little trotting video! A lovely note to end the ride on.
Thank you so much to Matt Bleby and the Orange Oak Horsemanship team for doing a lovely job breaking this one in.
Apparently the first time Guinness was taken over a tarp, he did it exactly like this. No funny business whatsoever! Can’t ask for more than that!
Up and over the platform! So honest and tries his hardest
What a cool dude!
Guinness is looking like he is going to be an outstanding ridden pony. This is our second update from the breakers that we got last week. Orange Oak Horsemanship always do such an amazing job!
Lots of foal movement going on now! Just over 60 days until due date 😍
