Australian Horse Industry Council Size and Scope Study of the Equine Community of Australia

The Australian Horse Industry Council, of which HRCAV is a member, is asking all recreational riders and horse owners to complete the AHIC Size and Scope Survey.

As horse owners, we’re all familiar with the time, energy, and financial investment our horses require. Yet, we also know the remarkable rewards and joy that come from a life shared with these incredible animals.

Australia's non-racing horse industry and its contributions to the economy and community well-being have historically been underestimated and poorly defined, often leaving the recreational horse community overlooked in government decision-making and policy development. The AHIC needs our support to accurately capture the scope and scale of horse ownership in Australia. By doing so, they can clearly demonstrate to government the economic and social benefits of the recreational horse sector and strengthen our collective representation.

There has never been anything like this survey before! It is groundbreaking and very necessary. It is part of the work of the National Horse Traceability Implementation Task Force where the focus is biosecurity and disease preparedness. However, you cannot manage what you cannot measure, hence the need for the survey.

So, hop to it and complete the survey to ensure our governments understand the true value of horse ownership, and can formulate policy which is sensitive to our needs and wants as people who live and breathe horses. You can complete the survey on a mobile device or desktop. Your information is completely confidential and is not individually shared back with the AHIC or any other agency.

The AHIC is also seeking photos of people enjoying a variety of activities with their horses. Submit your favourite shots, and your image could be chosen to represent the recreational horse sector in the upcoming report!

The survey needs to be completed by mid to late November. Five lucky respondents will receive a $500 prepaid gift card to spend on absolutely anything.
