Boyd Martin always had some good inspirational words. Even though an American now he did used to be an Aussie and yes back in my younger days had the opportunity to meet and compete with! Those days are long gone but I can still watch one of his videos and be inspired to do better

A day after my latest update Dominic has informed me that he doesn’t want to ride any more and wants to play footy instead! He has been wanting to play for a few years now and as much as I would love for him to ride I don’t want to force something on him when he’d rather do something else!

But, Chester isn’t going far - the Hills family will be taking him.
He is a great step up horse for Payton who wants to focus on her show jumping and is aiming for State this year. He is also highly suitable for Payton as he is an all rounder and she will still be able to do dressage, hacking and pony club as well. Payton and Chester will be teamed together for the next year or so while I take on and train our lovely little OTT Madnus Lee (Maxi, mad max, maximus) for Payton to go on with in the future.

Good luck Payton, I can’t wait to see the bond you and Chester form this year and the achievements you will have.

The end of 2024 proved challenging, I have been MIA so here’s a little update for all!

My bestest boy JT had ongoing soundness issues which led him to having a lot of time off in between comps for the end of 2024. I tweaked various things and went through a process of elimination to find the cause and what will work for him. He has been spelling over the summer months and I believe I have resolved the issue.

Mo Man had a great start to his career after racing. A few clinics with the incredible Thomas muehlenbeck, a dressage comp and a couple of show jumping comps up to 80cm. He has now had a good spell and will be ready to start fresh this season.

Dominic and Chester had some great results throughout the year and jumped up to 90cm at their last comp of the season (mum told Dominic it was smaller than it was to get him to have a crack! Then told him later). Super proud of them both and I can’t wait to see the achievements this duo will have this year.

As many of you know, I am a track work rider which is a job I absolutely love. Unfortunately at the start of December I was heading out on my fifth horse for the morning, who clearly got up on the wrong side of the stable which resulted in me breaking my wrist and requiring surgery - I now have 2 plates, a screw and a cool scar to tell the story!
But on a positive note my favourite little three year old ‘Obligated’ (Harry) has had an amazing prep with a trip to Brisbane to race at Eagle Farm where he did not disappoint! He gave his all and ran a solid 5th on a heavy 10 track. I have so much faith in this little horse that he will get the podium finish down south next prep.

Whilst the break has been a minor set back to start 2025, I can’t wait to get clearance because I am super excited to start riding again!

Watch this space - There are a few up and coming OTTs who will be ready to find new homes this season!

The age old saying ‘YOU CANT FATTEN A THOROUGHBRED!’

My proof is in my pudding. If you feed them right, work them correctly from day one of coming off the track you really shouldn’t have any troubles putting weight on. If you don’t know what to feed them then ask someone that knows instead of making excuses. It will cost money and let me tell you JT cost me a hell of a lot and time but he never looked skinny or underdone

People say it takes time to put weight on TB when they come off the track and in some instances it can be especially if they are 17+hh but for majority of race horses it all comes back to what there weight was like when racing. Working in the racing industry I take a lot of notice of how a race horse looks and if they change trainers does their weight or overall look change. I’m lucky enough to work for and know some great trainers who’s horses are muscles correctly, worked correctly, feed correctly and the overall picture of the horse looks amazing and that is such a credit to those trainers.

In May this year Mo Man finished his racing career he raced the Monday I picked him up the Saturday and took him to a dressage lesson sunday (I had ridden Mo a few times and also knew he was sensible and that he would handle the lesson no worries at all) literally to the day it has been two months since coming off the track and this stunning grey has gone from extreme race muscle and fitness and looking picture perfect for racing to fattening up and changing muscle shape for his new career as a hack/show jumper/dressage horse. I love every minute of working him every day and seeing the transformation.

In January this year Suzie purchased Seven. Now not due to the owners fault but because he went on lease to the wrong people he came back to the owners looking a little worse for wear so Suzie (who’s a sucker for the under dog) decide she was going to buy him and getting him health. Now it took a little longer with him (no fault of his, suzies or previous owners) but the difference in this little horse is amazing. Suzie and Seven have been out competing in dressage and a few small jumps. Credit where credits due Suzie has done all the work herself I haven’t even sat on him.

It’s been a while between comps.

Over the past couple of weeks we have had a couple of comps that we have attended.
WEG show jumping weekend, Finch Hatton show and Mackay show.

WEG - Dominic and I took 5 horses between us, Harry, Chester, Sophie, Gordii and JT. All horses performed extremely well with all winning or placing in every class. Little bit of family rivalry with Dominic, Chester, Harry and mum with Sophie where Dominic and Chester prevailed, Harry second and mum of course ended up third.

Finch Hatton I took Gordii and JT with placing and wins on both horses. JT did let me down at one point but made a come back to finish third in the 6 Bar!

Mackay show very disappointed in JT (very much so considered selling him and the question is still on my mind)

Thank you so much Chantelle from Pawtrait Pix - Equine Photography for some great photos

Sorry haven’t posted any comp results for a while or really had any photos to pop up
But…………… let me introduce you all to………MoMan! He raced Monday and went dressage lesson Sunday. What a little gem he was. Stood tied up to the truck all day not a care in the world. Definitely a bit all over the place in the lesson but he did exceptionally well coping with every little thing that we asked of him. Plus he hadn’t been ridden since the races either.

The last two weekends we have been out and about.

Firstly Rockhampton Equestrian Group sizzling summer comp where we took JT, Chester and one of our training horses Lady
JT jumped great
Chester was amazing for Dominic (really starting to form that partnership)
Lady her first comp. We had been dealing with abscess for two weeks prior so we only did very low rounds. Other than some anxiety she didn’t disgrace herself and did some lovely jumps.

Then we have Gladstone Calliope Equestrian Group/CQ Dressage where we took JT, Chester and the infamous Biggles (hasn’t been over a jump in over a year). This was a night time comp so we were jumping under lights for the majority of the rounds. JT and I finishing the night of at 10pm ish both nights.
Chester and Dominic again having some ripper rounds and getting more qualifiers for state interschools with one more to go for the 70cm. Dominic came out of the class wanting to jump 80cm mum is definitely starting to have heart palpitations 😂😂 super proud of them both!
Biggles jumped 4 clear rounds at 70 and 80cm which amazed me but I was extremely happy with him.
JT jumped super over the 1.10 and 1.20 classes.

Photos in the dark are really hard to get.
