So last weekend, I was called to come and get this snake from inside a power box thingy.
ERGON were there replacing the lids and discovered an unexpected visitor inside the box. I got there and it turned into a chonker of an eastern brown snake, pseudonaja textilis! This snake was super beautiful and healthy! Clearly on a good paddock.
The best thing was, I held him for 20 minutes, then was allowed to put him back exactly where I got him.
For the snakes wellbeing, this is hands down the best outcome! Snakes don't translocate well. They stay in the area where they're born for their whole lives. It's familiar. They know where the hidey holes are or safe sleeping spots, where to find water, and all other needs. It's safer.
In unfamiliar areas, they have to move around a lot further to find what they need. There are studies to support this. A translocated eastern brown who is relocated, will travel 2 1/2 times its old familiar area in a new area in order to meet It's needs. This leaves it vulnerable to predators, makes it more likely to get hit my machinery and come across people and pets.
This is why I strongly encourage people who have snakes outdoors to leave them alone and wait until they move off by themselves.
Anyway, here is a video of me catching the little fella and some photos of it.
Thank you to Allen Glover for coming along and filming and taking these photos.
Hi all. I'm back!
Here's a cute and very pretty eastern brown for your viewing pleasure. I caught it from Ooralea. I just love the orange colouration! ❤️ Thank you to Shae for videoing it for me. Even if you did crap yourself a bit. Lol
I have reached 2.5K followers! Thank you for your continued support. I could not have done it without each of you. 🙏🤗🎉
I caught this beautiful common tree snake out of some peoples automatic garage door motor this morning. He was pretty happy he'd found such a great hidy hole. It was just lucky that he was spotted before the people tried to open the door.
No snake or door opener was harmed in this process. Win all round.
Check out his climbing skill! The tree is verticle. That's how good these guys are.
😊
This stunning little common tree snake found herself in a house in Glenella. She was terrified and hiding in behind the blind. When I caught her, she showed her appreciation by munching on my arm. Thank you. I appreciate that.
Well, she was super keen to leave when I released her.
I caught this hungry brown tree snake this morning at Pet Barn.
It had snuck into the bird room and eaten two of the resident budgies.
The staff were amazing and shut the whole bird area off until I arrived to collect our fat mate.
Hilariously, he came out of the bag upside down and didn't want to move his big belly to right himself.
After he finally decided to move, he went straight up a tree.
