Limited Vaccines Available 🐱

Does your cat have regular hairballs? 🐱

Regular Grooming: Brush your cat regularly to remove loose and dead hair. This is especially important for long-haired breeds.
Use a grooming tool that suits your cat's coat type, such as a slicker brush or a grooming glove.

Hairball Control Cat Food: Consider feeding your cat a specialized hairball control cat food. These diets often contain additional fibre to help move hair through the digestive tract. Consult with your veterinarian before making any significant changes to your cat's diet.

Increased Hydration: Ensure your cat has access to fresh water at all times. Staying hydrated can help the digestive system process hair more effectively.

Regular Veterinary Check-ups: Schedule regular check-ups with your veterinarian. They can assess your cat's overall health and address any concerns related to hairballs.

Want your pets to get along? 🐱🐶

Early Socialisation: If a dog is introduced to cats or other animals at a young age and vice versa, they are more likely to get along. Early positive experiences with the other species can shape their behavior and reduce the likelihood of conflict.

Gradual Introduction: When introducing a new cat or dog to the household, it's crucial to do so gradually. Allow them to get used to each other's scents before direct interaction. Use positive reinforcement, treats, and praise to create positive associations.

Provide Safe Spaces: Cats often appreciate having elevated spaces where they can observe the dog from a safe distance. Make sure your cat has access to areas where they can retreat if they feel the need.

Patience and Training: Both cats and dogs can benefit from training. Basic commands like, sit, stay and leave it are useful for managing interactions.

Consistency and positive reinforcement are key. 🐶🐱

Our team is currently understaffed, and scheduling appointments with limited availability can be challenging. Please be courteous and considerate when interacting with our team.

Additionally, for routine procedures such as vaccinations and desexing, be aware that we may need to reschedule appointments at short notice in case of emergencies. We appreciate your understanding and consideration for our team. 🚨🩺

They’re only tiny but they pack a punch. A further reminder that ticks are extremely active this time of year. 🐶✨

During the last 4-6 weeks we have received daily calls of ticks on dogs. We’ve had a total 30 cases hospitalised due to paralysis and 3 of these cases were dogs that have not survived despite treatment.

It’s devastating having to deal with these cases when we have so many preventative options available.

Recently, there has been some misinformation circulating in our local area. We want to clarify that tick paralysis affects animals indiscriminately, regardless of their immune status. Whether your pet is healthy or not, it doesn't influence their likelihood of getting a tick or their chances of survival if they do get affected. We've observed cases of tick paralysis in middle-aged dogs that were otherwise very healthy. It's important to note that these dogs were of different breeds and vastly different sizes, showing that tick paralysis can affect a wide range of animals.

⚠️TICKS🔔

Concerningly we have seen 7 tick paralysis cases present and require treatment at the Maclean Vet Hospital in the last 4 days, with daily calls to say that ticks are being pulled off dogs at home. It is very important at this time to ensure your prevention is up to date and if not on any start then IMMEDIATELY.

Pets with tick paralysis present with:
- not eating/off food for a couple of days
-pain or lameness at site of tick attachment
- change in meow in cats
-vomiting or regurgitation in dogs, as well as swallowing/retching in the early stages
- wobbliness in the back legs most commonly but they may also be more mildly affected and just not able to jump or will sit down after walking a short distance
-respiratory effects; increased breathing, using their belly to breath or a grunting noise with expiration

If concerned that you tick is suffering tick paralysis please do not delay getting in touch.

It is very sad seeing these animals when prevention is easily accessible, if not through us then online or local pet store, please DO NOT use supermarket products as these are generally very poorly effective. Starting prices for monthly treatments are $22.50 in dogs and $26.15 in cats, with 3 monthly options also available.
