🤩 Exciting News from MiriCol Paws 😸

On Saturday, we welcome Koda to our group of breeding girls. She is a Toy Parti Poodle coming from Woods Cavoodles, Cavaliers & Poodles NSW

Parti Poodles are just like the ones you already know and love, but with a unique colour combination — primarily white, along with another colour of either black, apricot, silver, cafe au lait, cream, or red.

The colour patterns can vary per dog, so no two parti Poodles ever look alike.

Koda is chocolate with splashes of white. She will be mated with Chewie our chocolate parti schnauzer.

We're excited to bring in some extra colour to our puppies in a year or so.

To crate, or not to crate?

One of the most valuable skills your dog will have- (other than strong recall), is the ability to be crated, tied up or similarly restrained.

As much as we do not like to think about emergency situations, things happen.

A bushfire, a flood, a family emergency. Even something as simple as the fence being hit by a tree branch when you live on a busy road.

If you have to be in an unfamiliar situation, or in a crowded evacuation centre, or even at someone else's house, being able to restrain your dog is so important.

It can keep them safe.

In high stress situations a normally obedient dog can take off, or they can be in danger if they are unrestrained.

Training a dog to a crate, or to be tied up is not something we do at the time of an emergency. Its something we do (ideally) as a puppy, or at least as part of normal training in a low stress situation.

I experienced the importance of this first hand when we were hit by the edge of a cyclone many years ago. We had two very big eucalyptus trees come down and hit the house and the shed. We evacuated with the clothes on our back, and the dogs as the tree came down. This is still the most frightening night of my life.

We were lucky enough to find someone in the middle of the night that would take us in, but the dogs had to stay in the car.

We knew the dogs were safe in the car, and it was nice to know the car was safe with the dogs. It was one less thing to worry about as we laid there all night, waiting for the daylight to see what damage was done to the house.
