Some of our terminal-sire produced Charolais x Santa steers are growing at a rate of knots. Currently grazing on an oat paddock, and will be lined up for sale in about 30-60 days, they will have an impressive carcase weight (proven by carcase comp run in QLD last year, where some Grassbrook stock were run through the ropes with a wide cross-section of other stock, and performing exceedingly well, outstripping some more well-known breeds).

Some of our AI progeny from a fertile-female sire. You can see this steers' female attributes, in the lighter rump area and the deep hind/loin.. He's a commercial, (will be sold for beef/steak) and essentially a "by-product" of what we are producing for our own female lines... but his female siblings are going through some preparations to become replacement breeder cows, and will be a part of our stud stock later on.

Etta, getting some reminders in halter and brushing, with her tail and mane getting the full treatment from the Naughty Knots product from The Equine Stylist Australia. Naughty KNOTS .
All the horses that were run in for trims over the last week, got a bit of a spa day, and this stuff is brilliant for removing wind plaits, dags, and fairy stirrups!!
Etta looks like she was fighting the dozing off...

Rooney, haltered up again today and oral drenched, much to her disgust... she's getting progressively more interested in actually being handled, and will start some foundation training in the spring. If she's anything like her paternal siblings, she'll be a darling..

Aarusha & Nacre are wintering with Prince. He loves company but is a very respectful stallion, having been herd raised within a good hierarchy of mares and stallions. Nacre was not cooperative for an outside stallion last season, and didn't show for him at all , and Aarusha lost/slipped her foal, so they have been herded with Prince- the hormonal regulation opportunity for them is immense, and Aarusha is very clearly lead mare, so introducing other maees into the equation in breeding season will be good for Prince as he'll be in the environment he is most comfortable in, and those new mares will be serviced when Aarusha deems they're properly ready- it's nice to see them in their more natural environment, their weight and mental affect being healthy and balanced.
Should either mare end up being yeld/barren, they will make good c**t/stallion companions for off seasons, & are both established in their ridden foundations too.
I prefer to "test run" my mares who don't successfully yield/brood, with a stallion in an off-season so that they have time to hormone-regulate naturally, and therefore keep them better balanced physically, and then make the decision down the line of what herd they will best suit.
They will be PT'd in around Oct/Nov and then put into the relevant herd for them- if that means a late autumn foaling, so be it. They will then be held over for a season or 3 before being herd run with the chosen stallion over the correct breeding season to bring them back into line for future foaling or breeding. Both young mares ARE special girls , so are quite secure in their circumstances atm.
