Shout out to Wayne Kiely at Peringa Equine for setting up this fabulous facility. After a rocky start (he isn’t brave), Spider is now relaxing into his work on the water treadmill. Can’t thank you enough for your patience in making this a good experience Wayne.

We incorporate this into his work once a week, and are starting to see the benefits, including a stronger topline, and a more engaged thoracic sling.

As Spider is a big horse, who spent considerable time recovering from an impaction colic surgery, the water treadmill is an important part of his overall body strengthening exercise.

Spent an afternoon making scary arena markers for the baby dressage horse. Apparently he doesn’t care. Such a good boy.
Lockharts Festival is a 6yo gelding by Sezuan out of Kinnordy Galaxis (Gymnastic Star x Winterkoenig).

For the last four (I think) years, we have sponsored the Junior 95 Eventing WA leaderboard. It’s been our way of giving back to the sport and to encourage the junior riders on their eventing journey.
We expect nothing more than a thank you for this, however this years winner really blew us away with a beautiful framed photo, some chockies, and a lovely card.
Congratulations Leah Gardiner and Two Sox on your win this year. Hope we see you in the 1* class next season.

Very very proud mum moment. Our beautiful Popty Ping, ridden by Ruby Rae, came second in Equestrian in the Park by 0.74 of a second. Beaten by Ruby Rae riding her own Nev, WH Frequency. Absolutely amazing performances by Rubes. So damn proud of her and thrilled to be part of her journey

Thank you to Perth Horse Trials Association for running an excellent fundraising auction. I was lucky enough to win a paint protection treatment for my little truck, very kindly donated by Conor and Katrina at Paintseal Australia . They have been fantastic to deal with, and the truck looks super.

Congratulations to our gorgeous rider Ruby Rae on her second today in the 1*Jr at the Capel CCI-S Swan River horse Trials. Only combination to complete on their dressage score. Pops looks like she loved her xc after a few weeks break while Ruby and her team were at Interschool Nationals in Victoria.

The best thing we can do for our horses, whether they are an elite athlete or a scruffy pony, is teach them manners.

“Manners”

You can tell much about the level of someone’s basic horsemanship by the way their horses lead.

A horse should stay next to you, not pull you or be dragged by you. A horse should respect your space, and not crowd against you, maybe step on your feet.

This is known as “having manners.” A horse that won’t lead is like a dog that jumps up onto furniture, it hasn’t been taught right from wrong.

I recently read something by a well respected western clinician. He said, “People want their horses to love them so much that they think they are being mean if they create boundaries.”

Horses weigh half a ton. They can easily hurt a puny human if they lack manners and boundaries, Heck, they can easily hurt us if they DO have manners.

People who treat horses as though they were some sort of fuzzy pets can create animals that can do a lot of damage. Creating boundaries doesn’t mean whipping and beating, but it does require that when you say “no” you mean “no.”

Standing at the mounting block, standing for the farrier, picking up its hooves, letting itself get bridled, so many basics that make the difference between a mannerly horse and one that shoves you around.

As the clinician said, “letting a horse walk all over you won’t make him love you more.”

Looking forward to getting ours and Madison Tristram’s Dynamik Numerus Starz out to some young stock shows after the Royal. Starzy is about to turn 2, and has the most delightful temperament.

Slightly late post. Many congratulations to our lovely rider Ruby Rae for her win on Wrenegade Rock in the 2*S class at Perth Horse Trials last weekend.
Ruby had a massive weekend, with her own WHF Frequency and our Lockharts Popty Ping in the 1*Jr long format as well.
Unfortunately Pops was very naughty in the dressage, which had us all scratching our heads, until it was worked out that she had been scoffing oaten hay all week so was like a kid on red cordial. That, combined with an excellent level of fitness had her literally jumping out of her skin. Hopefully by Dryandra in a fortnight she will be back to her softly working self. I know Ruby would appreciate being able to show the beautiful work she is getting behind the scenes.
SJ and XC were both textbook, and Pops recovered beautifully after XC.

All credit to Ruby, all three of her rides were in excellent fitness and condition.

Many thanks to Kristy and Eric Rae for all you’ve done to support Ruby, she’s a cracker of a kid. You should be so proud of her. I know we are.

Thanks also to Sonja Johnson, you’re well on the way to producing another top level young rider.

Thanks so much TH Eventing for riding Sam (Lockharts Cosmos) at the Sonja Johnson clinic and Spider (Lockharts Festival) around the grounds for me today.
Sam is showing exciting form over fences, hopefully out again soon.

Spider had his second ride off property for the year. This rising 6yo WB is out of Kinnordy Galaxis by Sezuan, and is very exciting.
