Zookeeping Traineeship Opportunity

Are you looking for a new and exciting career path, combining various skills whilst you learn a nationally recognised qualification?

We are looking for a junior candidate or school leaver for this new and exciting role.

You will work across our Animal Care Team across Domestic Farm Animals, Birds, Reptiles, Native Animals, Food Preparation, Mobile Displays and eventually Exotic Animals.

***You can still apply if you have completed a Certificate II in Animal Studies already***

Details outlined below:

Full-time contract position and be paid to learn and expand your knowledge and experience (adding valuable skills and experience to your CV), over 2-3 year Traineeship period.

Upon successful completion of your qualification course, you will have gained an accredited Certificate II in Animal Studies and/or Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care (Replacing Certificate III Captive Animals).

Working with industry professionals, who can teach, mentor and support you through every step of your traineeship.

Build a supportive peer network within the business to share your ideas and experiences.

Application should include: Resume / CV, basic cover letter or detailed email and any references, certificates and previous skills or courses.

We've got some big news of the cute and cuddly kind!

The awesome folks over at Central Coast Zoo will run a FREE live animal experience for ticket holders of our upcoming Outback puppet musical The One Who Planted Trees! No spoilers, but they'll be bringing something cool and scaly, and something sweet and fluffy! This pre-show experience is available for both the 10AM & 6PM show. Get your family pass before they're gone.

10AM is also open to school groups, and we'd love to see teachers and students take advantage of this awesome opportunity!

How cute is our family of Red-rumped Agouti enjoying their breakfast. These large rodents are native to South America and live in forest and rainforest areas. They are important to the ecosystem as they help spread seeds and nuts throughout the environment to grow new trees and regenerate the forest.

Remember you can still book VIP private marmoset monkey, meerkat and exotic reptile encounters through Amazement Farm & Fun Park… and also when you visit Amazement Farm & Fun Park you can ride the train past many of the CCZ animals including the camels, ostrich, Barbary sheep, deer, swans and geese, blackbuck antelope and of course the African Lions. (Capybara currently off display). We also have a new species that joined us recently..,, we will share soon…

Some great guesses… The Giant Aldabra Giant Tortoises loved their anniversary salad cake!!! 🐢 🎂

How cool is this close up video of our beautiful Burmese Python moving along the grass… this particular locomotion is called “rectilinear” motion. 🐍

Our stunning Burmese Python getting into the spirit of Halloween on the Maze Express train ride!! Reminder until we do open... the Train ride for Amazement Farm and Fun Park still operates daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm and you get to see the Camels, Ostrich, Antelope, Lions and a few more of the zoo animals!!!

Drumroll Please....🥁 We are very excited to announce our beautiful new additions the the Central Coast Zoo. We have welcomed a little creep of young Aldabra Giant Tortoises!!! 💥🐢 These cute (not so tiny) babies still do have a lot of growing to do, they currently weigh between 5 and 12kg - however these babies will grow into real giant tortoises one day. They can weigh up to 250kg in some cases!!! So these guys are like "Pre-schoolers" in the tortoise world... But they are very self sufficient and can look after themselves very well... Aldabra Giant Tortoises are native to the island of Seychelles, which is off the east coast of Africa and north of Madagascar. They are complete herbivores eating only vegetation like grass, shrubs and leaves. They are classified as a threatened species and listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN. These new additions are settling in very well... They can be seen long the Train Ride route when you visit Amazement Farm & Fun Park🚂 We hope to start offering discounted baby tortoise encounters in the coming weeks. Let us know if you want to meet them up close and personal with a private encounter!!!

SOUND ON!!!! That’s correct, we are the Central Coast’s very first successfully bred baby meerkats! We are so excited for lockdown to be over, so everyone can come play with us during experiences. Some of you guessed it, we welcomed a beautiful African Serval to Central Coast Zoo this week. This is the footage of him having his first access to his main exhibit area after his quarantine period. We are very excited to give this amazing animal ambassador a luxurious home here to live out his days. Watch this space for more information on Servals and also more information on some more new additions to the zoo coming soon!

Sorry we haven’t posted for a few weeks, we have lots happening behind the scenes! Today we were filling up one of the new ponds.... lots of new critters coming soon to the Central Coast Zoo... any guesses who might be using this pond?
