Meet Chance when I met this horse 2 years ago you couldn’t get near him at all the only person he would trust was his beloved owner due to previous farrier bashing him. He has now turned into a lovely horse with a very unique personality that only this horse can get away with.

That time of year again all the new young stock are out and showing off their talent and starting on Wednesday the Bathurst Gold Crown carnival is officially kicking off. We have sponsored 2 heats this year with the first one being the 2yo Fillies (Heat 1) in Race 1 which will commence at 6.33pm Wednesday Night and the the Second race we have sponsored is also the 2yo Fillies (Heat 6) in Race 7 which run at 9.31pm. Good luck to all involved.

1 afternoon worker 12:00 to 5:00

Job would include,

* handling horses to prepare for work
*caring for horses after work
* attend some race meetings
* feeding horses
* cleaning gear
*general maintaining work around the stables

On the 8th March Leo came into Hawkesbury Equine. He had numerous of abscesses keep blowing out which then weaken the wall and caused a large crack. I was lucky enough to get the call to help treat Leo we took X-rays and ended up finding part of his pedal bone dead. So we put the horse into surgery and done a wall strip and removed the dead pedal bone fragments. After surgery we fitted a hospital plate (heartbar shoe with a plate bolted to the bottom). We packed the shoe with iodine swabs and we packed the front of his foot with copper sulphate and beeswax oil. 2 months later we reassessed the foot and got quite a good cut on him we left the plate off and let his foot air. 5 months later and Leo is now being ridden again and is enjoying life. The whole time Leo was a very brave patient and never put a lame step. To see how quick Leo has recovered and seeing the smiles on the owners faces after all this is why we love our job.
