HEARTWORM! 🪱
🚨Recently, we have had an influx of Heartworm Positive cases. Heartworm disease is spread through the bite of mosquitoes. Heartworm is a large worm that lives in the Heart and Pulmonary Vessels. As the heart becomes clogged with worms, it pushes less blood out to the rest of the body causing symptoms such as Lethargy, Coughing with or without blood, exercise intolerance, weight loss, pale gums, difficulty breathing and in some cases sudden death can occur.

🤕TREATING HEARTWORM
Heartworm can be treated but takes at least 365 days. The treatment plan has a very extensive protocol.

🩺PREVENTING HEARTWORM
Luckily, Heartworm is preventable, there are a couple of different options for preventing heartworm. Such as an injection that covers your pet for 12 months or using a flea, tick and worm prevention that includes Heartworm. Please keep in mind if your pet has heartworm in their system that you are not aware of and you give them the prevention there is a chance, they could get quite sick. So, if your pet hasn't been on any prevention previously and you would like to start, we would recommend a heartworm test prior.

☎️ Feel free to contact the clinic on 07 4123 1570 to discuss these options.

🚩MICROCHIP UPDATE🚩

There has been some recent changes regarding the microchip company Home Safe ID and they will no longer be active.

This means that any microchips currently registered with this company will no longer be registered.

🐾If you are unsure who your pets registration is with you can use the following website to confirm the registration company; www.petaddress.com.au

If your pet's microchip is registered with Home Safe ID, they will need to be re-registered with an alternative company. Such as Central Animal Records or Australian Animal Registry.

CANINE PARVOVIRUS ALERT!

📍Unfortunately there has been multiple recorded cases of Canine Parvovirus in and around Maryborough.
🦠Parvovirus is highly contagious and results in symptoms including loss of appetite, lethargy, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea (may contain blood). Parvo affects dogs of any age that are not up to date on vaccines.
⏰ This Virus can survive for up to 7 years in the environment. It can withstand routine cleaning, which means the spread of the virus is hard to control. It is important to understand that your dog does not need to have direct contact with an infected dog for them to become infected with Parvo themselves.
💉 Thankfully, Parvo can be easily prevented with vaccination! So please if your puppy or adult dog is due for vaccines, we encourage you to book them in ASAP! It is important to remember even if your adult dog has had their puppy course, they still need a tri-annual vaccine to keep them up to date and covered for Parvo.
🐾 Please share with local friends and family so we can keep all our fur-babies happy and healthy!

📞 If you have any questions or would like to book your dog in please feel free to call us on 07 4123 1570.

Saving one pet will not change the world, but surely for that one pet, the world will change forever.

By adopting, you will be changing an animal’s life and giving them a second chance at happiness.
Adopting is such a kind and compassionate act that is truly appreciated!
We are lucky to have a couple of great rescue facilities in the Fraser Coast area.
