Fireworks season 🎆

🎆 Are you and your pet prepared for fireworks?

🎇 Fireworks expected NYE (often unofficial so be prepared) and January 1st (Maryborough Highland Gathering)

🎇 Supervision is important to help prevent your pet from escaping or injuring themselves. If you aren’t able to supervise, consider making arrangements with someone who can.

🎇 Keep your dog inside if possible. This will not only reduce the sound of the fireworks for them but also ensure they don’t run away.

🎇 Ensure your fence and gates are secure and your pet can’t easily escape through, under or over them.

🎇Ensure your pet is microchipped and details are up to date, in case they do escape.

🎇 Speak with our vets about treating noise phobias through behavioural programs and medical options.

🎄 Keeping pets safe this holiday season 🎄
A few tips to keep our fur families safe and well this holiday season

🐾 Avoid feeding table scraps, especially those high in fat
🚫 Ham/pork
🚫 Crackling
🚫 Gravies

🐾 Avoid toxic foods
🍇Grapes/raisins (inc mince pies and fruit cakes)
🍫Chocolate
🥜Nuts (especially macadamias)
🥑Avocado
🍷Alcohol
🧄Garlic & onions (inc stuffings)

🐾 No cooked bones or kebab sticks
🍑 Avoid stone fruits, mango pits and corn cobs

Monitor pets around:
🎄Christmas lights
🌊 pools/water
🎄Tinsel/decorations

🐾Monitor pets in the heat, and watch for snakes

🎄 Our on call Vet is available for emergencies after hours and during our public holiday closures. Call 0354614466 to access our triage service and on call Vet

🎄If your pet requires medication repeats, please call the clinic to order these before Thursday 19th December as our suppliers close over the Christmas period.

🎄If your pet requires specialty food, please place your order by Monday 16th December to ensure we can have them delivered to the clinic for you before Christmas closures.

With December just around the corner, it’s time to prepare for the summer holiday season!

🔸 If you have holidays planned and your pets are visiting boarding kennels/catteries, check that their flea treatment, worming and vaccinations are up to date. Vaccination appointments book up fast this time of year so get in early to avoid disappointment.

🔸 If you are travelling with your pets, talk to our team to discuss heartworm and tick prevention, as Australia has many regions with potentially fatal tick borne diseases and heartworm.

HOT WEATHER WARNING
The weather is warming up and it's important all pet owners are on alert for their pet's well being.

*Over 28 degrees you should be on HIGH alert. Heat stress is an emergency and can be fatal.

*Avoid exercising your pet in the heat (consider early morning or late evening/night time if the temperature allows)
*Ensure pets have constant access to cool, fresh water and shade or bring them into air conditioning if possible.
*Check your pets frequently
*NEVER leave pets unattended in hot cars.

Signs of heat stroke to watch out for:
*Hypersalivation
*Difficulty breathing
*Bright red gums
*Collapse

Maryborough Veterinary practice is closed Friday 27th September 2024 for AFL Grand Final Public Holiday. 🏉

We have a Vet available for emergencies on 5461 4466. We will reopen on Saturday 28th September at 9am.

After coming into spring and with the weather warming up, means it is mating season for snakes. Snakes are already coming out of hiding and we would like to remind everyone of the potential signs to look out for in your pet, indicating they may have been bitten:
-Excessive drooling or frothing from the mouth
-Respiratory distress
-Tremor of the muscles
-Sudden weakness or collapsing
-Dilated pupils
-Paralysis
-Loss of bowel & bladder control
-Vomiting
If your pet shows any of these signs, give us a call on 5461 4466 and make your way immediately to your nearest vet.
The quicker they are treated the best chance for a positive outcome.
Dogs can show signs within 30 minutes of being bitten.
Cats can start to show symptoms much later.
If your pets are outside, consider their environment & clean away any woodpiles, corrugated iron & long grass.

Bingo is his name oh!

Poor bingo broke his tibia (shin bone) a few months ago. So Dr James repaired it with a locking plate and screws.

He’s now all healed up and can go back to running and playing 🐶
