Advance DNA Competition Results!
There were 5 breeds for Maple!
They were: American Staffordshire, Bullmastiff, White Swiss Shepherd (White German Shepherd) Rottweiler and Labrador
Out of our Facebook and Instagram entries we had a few that guessed 3 correct breeds, we entered these into a name generator and Lee Venus was our winner!
Congratulations Lee! Please call the clinic on 8323 8522 to book your pooch in for their own DNA test!

✨ Competition Time ✨

This is Maple and she was rescued when she was approximately 6-8 months old.
For her “happy gotcha day” a year later, Dr. Meghan sent off an Advance DNA test to determine which breeds Maple had, and she was surprised at the results! There are 5 different breeds in her makeup.
We would like you to guess which breeds make up Maple, and the person who guesses correctly or the most correct breeds will win an Advance DNA Test for their own pooch! We will announce the winner next week! Happy guessing 🐾

Theatre Thursday!

Pickles was brought in for not wanting to eat, not herself, and vomiting. Through diagnostic workup, and a clue that she had vomited up some Taylor swift friendship bracelet material (a not so “invisible string”), we were able to determine that pickles had a linear foreign body. She was taken to surgery, where Dr Meghan, Dr Emily and the team carefully removed the string that extended from her stomach to her colon! She has made a full recovery (some might say she was able to “shake it off”), and hopefully will avoid ingesting things other than food in the future, as she knows the consequences “all too well”.

We hope you have an amazing long weekend!

Theatre Thursday!
Mouse (the dog) recently visited us at McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery because he was suffering from a non-healing ulcer (also known as a SCCED or indolent ulcer). This is an eye ulcer which fails to heal after 2 weeks of medical treatment.
Mouse required surgery to treat this ulcer. Dr Phil performed a surgery known as a 'grid keratotomy' and 'temporary tarsorrhaphy' to help the ulcer heal. After 2 weeks, Mouse had his stitches removed and he had returned to his happy self, wagging his tail in the clinic.
For more information on this disease and its treatment follow this link to our website https://www.mclarenvale.vet/mclarenvaleveterinarysurgery/Blog/Non-Healing-Eye-Ulcers

Happy International Chihuahua Appreciation Day!
Here at McLaren Vale Vets we appreciate Chihuahuas EVERY day! Here is a photos of nurse Rachael's Chihuahuas. Send us a photo of the little Chihuahua who is special in your life.

Did you know Chihuahua's are named after the Mexican state Chihuahua, where they were first observed. Chihuahuas are believed to have originated from the ancient Techichi dog breed, which was kept by the Toltec civilization in Mexico as far back as the 9th century AD. The Toltecs regarded the Techichi as sacred animals, often using them in religious ceremonies and even sacrificing them to accompany their owners into the afterlife. This fascinating historical connection adds depth to the Chihuahua's story beyond their modern role as beloved companions.

Meet the Team Monday! Today we introduce Rachael another of our amazing nurses!

Hi I'm Rachael, I've been working as a vet nurse for the last 7 years. I've been lucky enough in my life to travel and volunteer in many different animal rescue centres. I then decided to change my career 'later in life' to work with them everyday. I love all aspects of vet nursing, especially caring for our senior & special needs patients. My spare time is spent caring for my own little four legged family. I love doing agility & scent training with one of my teeny superstar chihuahuas. The rest of the time I'm usually outdoors camping, surfing, walking, yoga and generally making the most out of every day!

Anxious dog at the vet.
Did you know at McLaren Vale Vets we have a side entrance for anxious pets. Dogs or cats and their owners can enter directly from their car into our consult room to avoid seeing other animals in the waiting room.
If your dog is anxious coming to the vet, or gets aggressive around other animals, let our reception nurses know so we can ensure your animals avoids the waiting room.

Meet the Team Monday! Today we have our newest qualified nurse!

Hi I’m Jody.
4 years ago I decided I would like to work with animals and become a vet nurse. I studied for 3 and a half years with TAFE completing my Certificate ll in Animal Studies and my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing while under a traineeship with the McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery team. Last year I accomplished my goal and I am now fully qualified and loving my new career change.
I love all aspects of my job and I’ve never been happier. (Even on the tough days)🥰
When I’m not at work with other peoples fur family members you can usually find me out hiking with my family or surfing, or skateboarding …. Anything outdoors.

Meet the Staff Monday. Today we would like to introduce Moni.
Hi I'm Moni. Ive been vet nursing for just over 24 years, with almost 15 years of this at McLaren Vale Vet Surgery.
It's been a very interesting and wonderful journey, and I am continually learning. Vet nursing is a wonderful, enriching and rewarding job. I love working with animals and their owners. My favourite part of the job is helping our patients feel as relaxed as possible when they come to the surgery for treatments, surgeries, vaccinations, nail trims etc.
I am married with 1 son, 3 bonus children and 2 dogs. I love being out in nature as much as possible especially walking on the beach, swimming, snorkeling or being in my veggie patch.
My husband and I also have a passion for older cars and love going for a cruise when the weather is nice.

Meet The Team Monday - This week another one of our amazing nurses is ready to be introduced.

Hi I'm Lindsay!
I've been a veterinary nursing since 2005, with majority of those years with the McLaren Vale practice. Over all those years I've enjoyed every aspect of the job, from puppy school, to behaviour, to orthopaedics, and these days I particularly enjoy greeting you and your beautiful pets at reception and on the phone. My husband and I live locally in McLaren flat with our twin girls, who follow in my footsteps for the love of all animals.
Out of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, and doing as much travelling around Australia as possible.

Meet the team Monday! This week we would like to introduce one of our amazing nurses!

Hi I’m Debbie,
I’ve been a veterinary nurse since 2003 qualifying in the UK.
I worked at a large XLVets independent 24 hour vet practice in the Cotswolds, Oxfordshire where I was lucky enough to work alongside some amazingly knowledgeable vets and nurses in the Large Animal, Equine and Small Animal departments where I was able to gain experience in all areas over the years.
I moved to Australia in 2018 along with my homebred mare “Fizz” who flew out the same year and I have continued veterinary nursing since then.
I love all aspects of my job especially anaesthesia and laboratory diagnostic testing.
Aswell as my horse I also have an adorable cat called Archie who I rehomed in 2019.
In my spare time you will find me riding my horse in Kuitpo Forest or at Silver Sands. I also enjoy going to the gym, photography, catching up with friends, spending time at the beach and all things outdoors.

Meet the Team Monday! This week we would like to introduce our wonderful Practice Manager!

Hi, I’m Tarsh! 😁
I am the practice manager here at McLaren Vale Veterinary Surgery.
I have always loved animals and couldn’t think of any other industry I wanted to work in.🐾
I started nursing in 2007 and worked at other clinics over the years but I have been at McLaren Vale Vets for 12 years. I loved all aspects of nursing but when Phil purchased the clinic in 2022, I moved into practice management, which I am also loving!
Outside the surgery, I love to spend time with my daughter and husband, travelling, going to AFL games – ‘Carn the Crows, going to the beach and doing adventurous things.
I have a 3 year old Cavoodle named Payton who you may see around the clinic as she loves to come to work with me too.
