So, it’s been awhile since I’ve posted .
Our little dream of a self sufficient paradise copped a hit with the flood in Oct 2020 that saw us move out of paradise while our home was repaired . Then a MASSIVE hit with the loss of my partner in crime in Feb 2021 😢 things will never be the same . 💔
THEN again ! I lost my beautiful bees in the fight against varroa mite in August 2022 🐝.
I felt deflated and at a loss 2023. BUT … 2024 - I’m working towards bringing it back babee 🐝.

Unfortunately today I just cannot save my girls. Today is d day 🥲. I just hope that the fight against the mite is won . Thanks to these beautiful creatures for the good times and memories 🥲

With the incredibly heartbreaking news of the Varroa mite parasite detected in honeybee colonies across Newcastle, the Newcastle Seed Libraries is encouraging the community to plant flowers to attract native bees and other pollinators into our gardens. Organic Coriander seeds and a bee attractant mix (Basil, Sunflower, Cosmos, Marigold and Anise Hyssop) will be available (for free) to the community to support our mighty little bee friends. These will be available in about 2 weeks time from Wallsend Library, Digital Library and Lambton Library.

We are also calling out to the community to donate seeds to the Seed Library.
Suitable seeds include basil, sunflower, cosmos, marigold, anise hyssop, coriander, buckwheat. Seeds can be donated at any Newcastle Libraries branch using your envelope or one of ours. Details to provide include: seed type, variety (if known), where harvested (suburb), when harvested (month/year), when to plant, and basic planting notes.

Very sad times 😢. My bees were spread over two sites last year - Medowie and Williamtown. Due to yard work , I moved them all to the Williamtown apiary - now in the red zone for the terrible varroa mite chaos. Unfortunately they will all soon be euthanised for the greater good of working towards the eradication of the varroa destructor mite in Australia .
My heart aches for the beautiful bees 🐝 , for other creatures that will suffer in this crisis, for nature 🌱 and for every beekeeper . Support your local beekeepers - they’re going to need it 💔

Today was the day!!! 🐝 It was bitter sweet - I lost the very first hive I ever had 😢 but we also harvested about 50litres of sticky liquid gold from the others 🍯 Taking orders now. $8 - 500gm jar
