🐾🐾FREE DESEXING FOR STRAY CATS LIVING IN DAREBIN COUNCIL!!🐾🐾

This is an INCREDIBLE opportunity for residents of the Darebin Council area — and we’re begging you not to ignore it!

If you’ve been feeding or caring for a stray cat, please, please take action now and get them desexed through this program!

Right now, we are in the middle of a cat crisis like never before. Stray cats are multiplying at an alarming rate, and every day that goes by without intervention means more unwanted litters, more suffering, and more cats ending up injured, sick, or dead on the streets.

Rescues, pounds, and even kind-hearted individuals trying to help are drowning. We are completely overwhelmed, burned out, and heartbreakingly under-resourced. Every single day, we’re bombarded with desperate pleas for help — pregnant mums, newborn kittens, injured toms — and more often than not, we have to say no, because we simply can’t cope anymore.

And it’s not just about space. The financial burden is crushing. Each cat we take in can cost us anywhere from $200 to $2000 — and that’s if nothing goes wrong! With next to no government support and donations rapidly drying up due to the rising cost of living, rescues are being pushed to breaking point.

We want to help every single cat. We really do. But we can’t do it without you.

If you live in Darebin, and there’s a stray cat you’ve been feeding or seeing around — please, we are pleading with you — take advantage of this desexing program right now. It could mean the difference between that cat living a safe, healthy life… or contributing to yet another generation of suffering.

This offer is being offered by a joint partnership, between Darebin Council and Animal Welfare Victoria. Apply below:

https://www.darebin.vic.gov.au/Community-and-pets/Animals-and-pets/Pet-permits-and-responsibilities/Desexing-your-pet

If you aren't a Darebin resident, there are other great cheap desexing initiatives around! Please reach out to your local Council or Shire, as well as getting in contact with some of these amazing teams (Victoria based):
🐾 The Vet Project
🐾 Wyndham Community Vet
🐾 Second Chance Animal Rescue
🐾 Regional Community Vet Clinic

This isn’t just about one cat — it’s about preventing dozens, even hundreds of future births. Every cat desexed means less fighting, less spraying, and far fewer kittens being born into a world that doesn’t have room for them.

If you know of other affordable or free desexing options, share them in a comment below!

Please — help us stop this crisis from getting worse. Take action. Spread the word. Be the reason this cat crisis starts to turn around.

Not a single application for sweet Alexander… 💔🐾

450+ days in foster care.
Over 15 months of waiting.
And still… not one person has chosen him. Not one.

Alexander came into care with his two brothers, and while they've all waited far too long, it’s Alex who’s never even been given a chance. It breaks our hearts.

He’s grown up before our very eyes—from a playful kitten into a stunning, affectionate, gentle young cat. He’s sweet-natured, loves human company, adores playing with other cats, and has the most beautiful, soft tabby coat. He’s social, calm, and endlessly loving.

And yet… he’s been overlooked time and time again.

We’ve stood beside him at countless adoption events, watching as people pass him by, offering disheartening excuses:

🐾 “He's just a tabby.”
🐾 “His colours are too plain.”
🐾 “He's not a fancy breed.”
🐾 “I want a long-haired cat.”
🐾 “Male cats smell more.”
🐾 “We can't meet his parents, so we're not interested.”
🐾 “We'll take him—if he's free and comes with free stuff.”

Can you imagine how it feels to hear those words? We only hope he doesn’t understand them. We tell him every day how perfect he is, how deeply loved he is by his foster family… but how long can our words and love be enough?

Alex deserves more. He deserves everything.

He currently lives peacefully with other cats, a dog, a lizard, and even fish. He thrives in the company of other animals and would do best in a home with another cat—or maybe even one of his brothers, who are also still waiting.

Please… if you have room in your heart and your home, consider meeting Alex. He’s never known what it feels like to be chosen—but you could be the one to change that.

Because no cat should wait forever.
And especially not Alex.

Then vs Now....

Scared, shut down, and minutes from death in a Melbourne Pound, until an AMAZING transporter, stepped in, to save this sweet boys life!
Vet appointment booked, and on the way, 15 minutes away from making this a completely different story, to make room for the next stray needing a home, this little man fought to be seen and saved! And that he was!!
The pound had told us he was "unrehomable" and even laughed when we said we would work with him, like we were taking on the impossible! But little could they see, the amazing boy he was inside!
His transporter, although the struggle and fight to get him in his "Freedom Carrier", out of the pound, and narrowingly avoiding his ill-fated "vet appointment", saw something in him, that was unremarkable! She knew, he was destined to be an affectionate boy, worth every bit of saving!
On his short, but life-saving, 30 minute Freedom drive to his foster carer, she spent the time talking to him, in dulcet tones, reassuring him, that his life will start anew today! And that it did! He was destined for greater things, than losing his battle in the pound, nothing more than another number of the stray or surrender cats that are abandoned there every day, due to human ignorance and negligence.
This sweet angel has flourished in foster care - proving that his defensive mechanisms whilst in the pound, were only that of fear for his life! He needed to keep himself safe, and stop them from trying to hurt him! He didn't know they were trying to help him - he only knew fear and survival, and needing to do that, against all odds!
It took a few weeks for this sweet angel to decompress from his "fight to survive" mode, but with patience, love and an unsurmountable amount of affection, he has blossomed in to the amazingly affectionate boy that his transporter saw - that the rescue saw!
He has shown how certain environments, aren't always the best for animals, and whilst they may act a certain way to survive, that isn't always the "true self" they are trying to show the world.
This angel, isn't yet ready for adoption, as he still needs vet work (we wanted to let him settle, before potentially setting him back again with a positive vet visit!).
You may have also picked up that we didn't mention his name in this post - that is because he is yet to be bestowed with the best name (currently affectionately nicknamed "Stinkboy" by his fotser carer), and we will graciously take any suggestions from our loving supporters! Leave a comment below, and we will announce his new Freedom name, when he has had his vet work, and is available for adoption!!
Watch this space, as this adorable snug-bug won't last long in rescue! He is too perfect to pass up!! Xx

Alexander came into our rescue, scared, with his brothers and sister.

He would love to be adopted with his brother Quincy. They are like twins, and love to do everything together! If they need to be separated, that is ok too, but would REQUIRE that Alex has a friend to call his own in his new home! He cant be an only cat! He is too social and friendly!!

Alex is a loving young man, who once he gets to know you loves nothing more than playing and having a good cuddle! He makes the most adorable CHIRPS, and no one on our team can believe he is still trying to find his perfect home! He is an asset to ANY home and family!!

He is currently in a foster home with a medium size dog and his feline siblings - biological or not, he gets along with them all!!!

Ideal home would be:
* STRICLTY Indoor Only or with access to outdoor enclosure
* Someone who understands he is a little timid but once settled he is super playful and will make you smile with all his little meows and trills he makes.
* Gets along with dogs and other cats
* NEEDS snuggles!!!
