*WARNING*
MYXOMATOSIS OUTBREAKS ACROSS Victoria, AUS!
We are unfortunately seeing an increase in cases of myxomatosis.
Myxomatosis is a fatal disease to rabbits, which is transmitted by biting insects, primarily mosquitos, sand flies or by direct contact with infected rabbits.
Symptoms include swelling of the eyes, ears and ge****ls with a high temperature. Infected rabbits usually die 2-3 weeks after the onset of symptoms.
There is presently no treatment available and unfortunately the vaccine against this awful disease is not available in Australia.
We recommend keeping your rabbits indoors (especially at dawn/dusk and on hot still days) and using anti-mosquito protection (flyscreens, insect repellents, device and sprays).
If you are concerned about any symptoms that your rabbit is displaying, please call us 03 9416 3100. -
