⭐️⭐️Laser Therapy is a game changer⭐️⭐️
A non-invasive, rapid way to decrease inflammation, accelerate healing and alleviate pain.

Suspensory ligament injuries are often considered career ending in performance equine athletes, this is no longer the case.

Class IV lasers significantly improve short and long-term healing of tendon and ligament lesions, creating an exciting option for treating soft tissue injuries.

This is a non-invasive way to treat these injuries, accelerate healing and prevent scar tissue which weakens the ligament and leaves it susceptible to re-injury.
Because it accelerates healing it means less time rehabbing for these equine athletes.

Clinical and scientific results of high powered lasers include:

✨️Repair of ligament and tendon lesions
✨️Reduces scar tissue within and around injuries
✨️Reduces inflammation
✨️Increases collagen production
✨️Increases blood circulation to bring nutrients to the site
✨️Realigns muscle fibers for stronger healing
✨️Provides analgesia (Reduces pain)
✨️Enhances tissue oxygenation
✨️Increases cell proliferation (generates more. cellular energy)

Regenerative Laser Therapy has successfully treated injuries to structures such as:

✨️Cartilage/bone/joints
-Neck and poll, stifles, TMJ, hocks, fetlocks
✨️Sore feet and laminitis
✨️Sore muscles (especially back and glutes)
✨️Suspensory ligaments and branches
✨️Superficial flexor tendons
✨️Deep digital flexor tendon and it's insertion inside the hoof
✨️Inferior and superior check ligaments
✨️Collateral ligaments
✨️Scar tissue
✨️Open wounds and punctures
✨️Post-operative incisions
✨️Sacroiliac joint and kissing spine

As we all know the basic nature of horses as in the "flight response" increases the risk of traumatic injuries. Their basic instinct is to flee, often with no regard as to what part of their anatomy is trapped or in close proximity with a sharp object.
Proper care of these wounds is a long-term labour-intensive, and sometimes very frustrating activity.
The application of Laser Therapy accelerates the healing process and restoration of tissue.

A timeline of the effect of Laser therapy on wounds.
Treatment is carried out off contact, Laser Therapy increases collagen production, reduces inflammation which causes pain

Equine laser therapy is an option to include in treatment plans that helps speed up recovery time, reduce pain and inflammation, and reduce the formation of scar tissue. Laser Therapy devices use red and near-infrared light wavelength readily absorbed by skin, soft tissue, and bone that naturally increase cellular energy production. Laser Therapy treatments help improve circulation and lymphatic drainage, allowing faster resolution of painful inflammation.

EQUINE INJURIES TREATABLE WITH LASER THERAPY
Laser therapy can be used as part of a treatment plan to increase recovery time and reduce the severity of chronic issues in equine athletes, including:

* Tendon and ligament injuries
* Laminitis
* Inflammation around fractures
* Osteoarthritis
* External wound healing

TENDON & LIGAMENT INJURIES

A single misstep easily sustains damage to the tendons and ligaments in a horses limbs, but the road to recovery can be long. One major issue with soft tissue injuries is scar tissue formation, which is weaker and more prone to breakage than normal tissue. Laser therapy has been shown to boost collagen production, a major component in soft tissues that make up tendons and ligaments. Additionally, collagen alignment is improved by laser therapy treatments, leading to stronger tendons and lowering development of scar tissue and chances for re-injury.

I will be adding additional posts over the coming days explaining how laser can help with the other conditions listed 🐴🐴

Awesome post by Massey University Equine Veterinary Clinic showing how they perform equine distal limb CT scans!
This is an excellent way to diagnose the cause of your horses lameness and eliminates any guess work.

Laser therapy produces fantastic results for treating equine lameness, we can work alongside your veterinarian to resolve the issue.

Did you ever wonder how we perform our equine distal limb CT scans?..One leg at a time

It is a team effort, with collaboration between Massey University’s anaesthesia, radiology and equine departments. Not to forget our amazing referring veterinarians who are vital to it all!

The distal limb is a common area of interest for equine lameness. A computed tomography (CT) scan captures hundreds of radiographic ‘slices’ per limb. These are then sandwiched together to produce a comprehensive 3D image. In combination with contrast administration, we can pick up subtle changes in the soft tissue structures, blood vessels, joints and bones that are elusive to radiography or ultrasonography.
