So, you might be wondering how I ended up here…
Aurora the Vet Nurse started when I was just a kid doing work experience at my local vet clinic. I fell in love with helping animals and begged the owner for a job—anything—just to be around more dogs and cats. I wasn’t great at school, but I loved dogs.
I spent four years as a junior vet nurse before moving into emergency nursing at 21. It was a shock to the system—dealing with trauma, surgeries, and life-or-death situations daily. But this is where I found my passion: rehab and surgical nursing. I spent all my free time watching rehab videos, attending webinars, and soaking up everything I could.
Then came Andy—the love of my life. A Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever with a rare genetic defect, Andy needed rehab post-surgery to learn how to walk correctly and avoid early arthritis. I worked my arse off to help him, and that obsession led me to a job at one of Australia’s biggest animal rehab centres. At my interview, I told them, "I’m never leaving." I truly believed that.
But life had other plans. I was in a DV relationship, cracks started to show at work, and I was bullied for my dyslexia. It broke me. I left my dream job, moved closer to family, and had to start over. But I still wanted to help animals. So, I put every cent I had into a laser machine, booked a booth at Dog Lovers Show, and found the most incredible, supportive clientele.
From there, we grew. A tiny shopfront turned into a factory space, we bought an underwater treadmill, and now I spend every day helping dogs live pain-free, happy lives. Dogs aren’t just my life—they’re my entire world.
Oh, and if you made it this far… meet Hip-Hop the pig. She had spinal surgery at the emergency centre where I worked, and on the day of my rehab job interview, I saw a photo of her in their underwater treadmill. The same pig, the same journey. Call it fate, but life has a funny way of working out.
Thank you for being part of it. 💜🐶
