During Week 3 of the curriculum, the puppies are exposed to gentle and safe novelty items in their whelping box.
The goal is to slowly build trust with the puppies and to let them know that everything I ask of them is fun. Puppies can engage if they please. Nothing is stressful. Free will and interaction is on their terms at this young age.
Novelty items will be change daily and will remain in the whelping box until they fall asleep.
Below are some examples of novelty items I may use:

🐾 Balls 🏀
🐾 Stuffed Animals 🧸

A LOOK AT WEEK 3 - DAY 21
Sadie’s L❤️VE litter will be hitting some new milestones from today.
At week 3, the puppies will enter the “Awareness Identification” period. This will be until Day 28.
It is less important right now for an overload with human interaction and more important for the puppies to be with their siblings and mother in a predictable and safe environment.
This week a number of exciting things will be happening for these puppies:
🐾 Whelping box will be halved into sleeping and toileting.
🐾 Puppies will try “puppy mush” for the first time (this will be once a day in week 3).
🐾 10 step puppy handling begins. (Handling is gentle and safe)
🐾 Week 3 weigh in.
🐾 Whelping Box Novelty Exposure begins
🐾 Noise Exposure.
🐾 Nails trimmed.

When do puppies ears open?👂
Puppies ears typically open around 10 to 14 days old. It’s an exciting milestone as they start to explore their world through sound.📣
On Day 18, 19, and 20, I will expose them to a very brief “loud noise”.
I tend to do three loud claps. 👏 At this young age, they do not yet fear sound. So this is an opportunity to get an early start to desensitisation.

The puppies are beginning to discover the world through their senses. 👃
With their eyes just opening but with blurry vision, they are relying on their sense of smell and touch to navigate their surroundings.

🐾🐶 Did you know that puppies at two weeks of age are starting to find their feet?
It’s an exciting milestone in their development and fun to watch as they explore their little world! 🌏. At this stage, their sense of balance and coordination is improving, allowing them to start taking their first wobbly steps.
It’s important to create a safe environment for these curious pups to help them build their confidence as they learn to navigate their surroundings.

WHAT IS ENS AND ESI??? 🤔
Early Scent Introduction (ESI)👃
Early Scent Introduction (ESI) is a procedure I do that helps puppies with their nose awareness and confidence. It enhances their ability to identify and react to scents.
ESI is introduced at days 3-16 of a puppies life and is very beneficial for their development.
During this curriculum, I will expose them to a different scent each day. As we do this, we hold the puppy close to us, and let them smell each item. After this, I then chart their reaction on their neonatal care chart.
What are the benefits?
This procedure creates a more aware and alert dog, which in return makes an even better companion, service, and therapy dog.
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS)
This is the handling of each pup once per day from Day 3-16 and it involves the following exercises:
1. Tactical stimulation (between toes)�2. Head held erect�3. Head pointed down�4. Supine position�5. Thermal stimulation
Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.
These five exercises will produce neurological stimulation’s, none of which naturally occur during this early period of life.
Benefits of Stimulation�Five benefits have been observed in dogs that were exposed to the Bio Sensor stimulation exercises. The benefits noted were:
1. Improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate)�2. Stronger heart beats�3. Stronger adrenal glands�4. More tolerance to stress�5. Greater resistance to disease

Over the past two days, I have been busy getting everything ready for Sadie’s upcoming delivery.
I have set up a cosy corner within my home to ensure Sadie feels safe and comfortable as she prepares to welcome her little pups into the world.
From soothing music, to soft blankets and towels for her to nest . I have spared no effort to create the perfect environment for Sadie’s whelping process. Its definitely been a labour of love, driven by my excitement to witness this incredible miracle unfold right before my eyes.💕✨
I feel honoured to be able to be a part of such a special moment.
I cannot wait to share the joy and adventure that awaits, with each and every one of you! 🌈🥰
