Some of our gorgeous girls and boys from the last couple months!
We’ve been a bit slow with social media lately, but hoping to amp up our pics a bit more again to share the love for our wonderfully adored clients! We’ve also had a recent influx of new puppy clients so can’t wait to watch them grow up too 🥰❤️

Feeling so grateful looking through some of these pics for the clients who love styled and breed cuts as we have so so much fun making your dogs look as cute or as prik and proper they can be! Having a variety of breeds is so important for developing our younger staff, so we’ve had so much fun being able to practice less common breeds like this beautiful Airedale duo Bonnie and Clive! 🥰❤️
But we also love doing Teddy bears and a little Asian fusion adorableness whether on a crossbreed or a fun twist on a purebred trim!

Like most businesses, many of our overheads have increased over the last 18 months since our last price rise. As a result, we have had a small price rise for the New Year as mentioned to clients in person and via sms for the last couple months. As of January 1 2025, these are our new starting prices 😊 previously our $3 sustainable salons green fee was added to each groom as a service fee however with the new prices this fee has been built in so for most grooms there is only a $7-$12 increase to the overall price. We will continue to have a 1.6% card fee and may be removing Afterpay as an option for payment at some stage this year. If you have any concerns about the removal of Afterpay please reach out as I may be able to offer a payment plan through the shop directly for regular clients.

Some clients, particularly our “VIP” clients who come 2-3 weekly without fail and clients whose grooms take a much shorter than average duration for their dog’s pricing bracket, may be kept on grandfather pricing on a case by case basis at Urban Furdo’s discretion.

As part of our change, we have introduced a new “Giant” category to separate our much larger XL clients such as Newfoundlands, leonbergers, etc which will be for all dogs approximately 45kg+ but like all prices, final size is determined by duration of groom with weight as a rough guideline so some clients over 45kg may be kept as XLs for their pricing.

Our extras menu is for add on services to grooming appointments as well as walk in prices for services like nail trims. Nail clipping is included in all grooming services 😊

If there are any questions or queries regarding the change or to check your price change, feel free to reach out for a 2025 quote 🥰

We would like to make an exciting announcement that we have a new team member joining us at Urban Furdo!
We will be welcoming Rhio as our new junior grooming and retail assistant this year! Rhio has recently moved to Melbourne for study all the way from sunny Townsville where he developed his dog handling skills by assisting his mum in her grooming business and working in a luxury pet resort. Rhio will be helping the team by bathing and drying some of our pooches to prepare for their haircuts which will allow us to groom a couple extra dogs some days and open up some extra appointments. He is especially looking forward to working with larger breeds particularly Irish wolfhounds as he has one back home, but he has an appreciation for every dog small or big, fluffy or hairless 🥰 Rhio also brings with him a particularly in depth knowledge regarding Guinea pig grooming and care as he has looked after many and even showed his pet Guinea pigs for a while- so if any clients have questions about their own little piggies he may be your new guinea pig guru!

Rhio will be learning his way around the salon the next few weeks and doing a lot of check ins and check outs to get used to our programs and software and of course to meet all of our wonderful clients! I appreciate everybody’s kindness and patience as starting a new job and learning new practices is a huge adjustment already let alone learning lots of new clients’ faces and names on top as well. We can’t wait to watch him grow with the salon and add his own creative flair and input on how we operate. Keep an eye on our online bookings as we’ll have a few extra grooming spots and some extra bath only spots opening up for the next few weeks onwards ❤️

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Karen Pryor after losing her fight against dementia and send my deepest condolences to her family and friends. Karen is arguably the single most influential person on modern dog training techniques and positive reinforcement based training approaches. Karen dedicated her life to learning to understand and better communicate with dogs and other animals such as marine life and sharing that knowledge with others. She revolutionised positive behavioural modification and training techniques and is credited with developing clicker training- which is still regarded as one of the most effective training techniques for teaching things as simple as a sit right up to complex chained behaviours like driving a car! (Seriously- look it up!)

Karen has authored many books in the behavioural psychology field such as “Don’t Shoot the Dog”, “Clicker Training for dogs and cats”, “Click to Win”, “On My Mind: Reflections on Animal Behavior and Learning” and “On Behavior: Essays & Research”. I often recommend her most renowned book “don’t shoot the dog” to clients struggling to understand, communicate with and train their pooch and always have such good feedback from people close to throwing in the towel! I’ve read a lot of her works and enjoyed studying and utilising her techniques while studying behavioural modification at TAFE. Clicker training is the first animal training technique I ever used when I was about 10 with the family cat. I still remember the rush of happiness when I realised I had managed to teach my cat the word “sit” and it genuinely felt like I could finally “talk” to animals around me through reinforcement based training methods. Every time you’ve felt that same thrill from teaching your pets a new word/ behaviour using either a clicker or a bridge word like “yes” and a treat is in partial thanks to this very special lady!

Update to all of Taylah’s clients! She won’t be available for online bookings or for bookings made through Urban Furdo Pet Styling in 2025 other than the odd day here and there!

However, she’ll still be available for limited grooming spots 1-2 days per week through her own business .snips_dog_grooming which offers house all grooming, pet sitting and limited grooming spots at the elsternwick store on days Urban Furdo is shut. We’re so grateful for all of Taylah’s hard work the last 18 months and wish her all the best as she takes the exciting plunge into full self employment! We’re so glad to continue to be able to support her by offering a rent a table arrangement so clients can enjoy a seamless transition who wish to keep getting groomed by the fabulous Taylah 🥰❤️

She can be called or texted on 0422 312 377

A huge happy Christmas and holidays to all of our followers, friends and family! No matter how you celebrate your end of year, we wish you a happy and safe new years surrounded by your loved ones- especially those with four legs and a wagging tail!

We worked right up to Christmas Eve this year and are so excited for a week off so we may be slow to respond to enquiries but we will slowly get back to everybody! Lots of exciting announcements to come including our Christmas raffle winner- so stay tuned! 🥰❤️
Archie of course is on the nice list and Merlot always on the naughty list so I’m sure they’ll keep me on my toes over the next week while we recover and prepare for a bigger and better 2025 for the Urban Furdo family!

Many of our clients and followers would know our team regularly competes in grooming comps to hone our skills and have some fun!
Michaela runs Groomfinity Grooming Competition each year in Dandenong with her good friend Chloe of Dressed to the Canines. This year the comp will be on November 17 and we have some fabulous open level groomers who want to compete but haven’t been able to find a suitable dog! These groomers are various levels of experienced but can all complete fabulous pet/ teddy grooms. We are hoping to link some of these groomers with owners of some very well behaved dogs for grooming who may be interested in a free grooming and building a relationship with an up and coming groomer! Please send us a message on Insta or via sms if you have a pooch you feel would cope well in a competition environment (numerous dogs on tables being groomed at once but they get lots of one on one attention and are supervised at all times and don’t need to mingle with other dogs. Dogs may need to hang out at the event for a few hours up to a full day). Groomers complete the wash and dry before the competition so dogs nervous for the dryer can go very slowly the day before on their prep work and if fine for the actual groom would be suitable for comp environment. We are looking for all breeds and mixes for this comp and future competitions for the Urban Furdo staff as well!

For this comp we would put you in contact with groomers not affiliated with urban Furdo who are needing dogs and you’d work out between yourselves the exact details for the day (eg some owners may prefer their pup to be picked up on Saturday and returned Sunday, others would rather bring them themselves on comp day)

Thankfully we have recovered after our flooding on Saturday and are so grateful for the understanding of the clients we had to reschedule! We can also announce we have begun the search for a new permanent premises as our pop up lease is coming to an end soon (and we want to avoid any future floods too!). It’s safe to say we have definitely loved the Elsternwick area and are planning on moving within 10 minutes drive of our current location. Ideally I would love to be in Elsternwick/ Caulfield south as that stays nice and close to our wonderful bayside clients, but brings us that 5-10 mins closer to our many Malvern and Oakleigh area clients! Our main goal is to find somewhere with a small yard to allow us to experiment with having a couple daycare dogs here and there/ host Bark Mitzvahs (and possibly a training yard for Michaela to explore her love of training again!) Everybody will be thrilled to hear we’re also looking for a property with significantly better parking availability!!

Again, I’m so thankful to everybody who continues to support our little business and I’m so excited our little shop is going to start its chapter two soon with a permanent home 🥰❤️

had so much fun today coming to the city for a special commercial film shoot with a Melbourne company (will definitely be posting video once it’s all finished!)! After her hard work indoors we decided to have a little picnic in the Botanical gardens and get our own photos enjoying the gorgeous spring weather and paying our respects at the Shrine of Remembrance 🥰

Spring is in the air, which means the desheds are too!
Spring can be a busy time for groomers with a combination of an increase in desheds, an increase of shave downs after winter hairdos get a bit out of hands and with more allergens in the air we tend to have more frequent visits for pups needing medicated shampoos or pollen washed off for their owner’s allergies. Reminder that we may be a little slower to respond to normal and you may need to book a little further ahead to avoid missing out 😊

And that’s a wrap! More pics to come once official pics are out, but we’ve have a fabulous couple of days at The Pet Industry Association of Australia’s AusGroom 2024!

Mairead competed yesterday with her standard poodle Sage in a beautiful creative dragon inspired groom, she managed to score herself a well deserved Honourable mention for her efforts! Today I entered the All Other Purebreds Open Class with a chow- not the most common breed to see in the ring and it was so awesome being able to ambassador a little for a less commonly seen breed! A big thank you to .the.chow for being on her best behaviour and her parents for letting us take her out for the day for the comp 🥰
I also entered a bedlington model dog and managed to score a third placing with that as well- pretty pleased given like normal I left finishing to the last minute and ended up entering without any eyes 😂

And as always a huge thank you to .scissors! We love using their scissors and their chunkers and thinners make double coats so easy to scissor without noticeable marks! ❤️

A huge thank you to the organisers and all of the fabulous sponsors that make these events possible including and many many more! A big thank you to Cathy Wallace and Danny Tsai for their thorough judging, it’s always so humbling to have any industry great go over your groom with a fine tooth comb and especially when you end up winning a ribbon with a less competitive breed too!

We may need to start just having posts for poodles with how many we’ve had the last couple weeks!
Reminder: spring is here and we’re starting to get busy! Please allow at least 3 weeks for an appointment, longer for larger dogs. We do our best where we can but planning ahead makes everybody’s lives much easier for grooms 😊 I thank everybody for their patience while we get back to sms messages and voicemails for new client bookings, we’ve been inundated this week and as we don’t have a dedicated receptionist the team takes on admin tasks between grooms where we can! We have a few competitions and events this month as well, so may have more delays than normal for replies. Please bear with us and you’re always welcome to book online too!

December is starting to get very busy, if you are wanting a spot in December we definitely recommending booking it in now especially if you have a preference for staff members! Clients on recurring schedules and who have already pre booked to the end of year are much appreciated and have your dates locked in ❤️
