It is incredibly an important part of being an responsible owner. There are many health and behavioural benefits of desexing your animal, as well as the prevention of unwanted litters. To assist in population management, AAPS offer subsided desexing fees.

OUR DOGS NEED FOSTER CARERS

Love animals but can't have your own at the moment? Or just want to help rescue pups in need? We are currently looking for more foster homes for our dogs.

Foster care is very important for young puppies that still require constant care, and for dogs that aren't coping in the shelter or need supervision for medical reasons.

If you've always wanted to get involved but have never taken the leap, now is your chance! We'll have in-depth discussions about the process and support you every step of the way.

At the moment, our biggest priority is finding foster homes that don't have any pets, as several of our dogs don't get along with other animals.

If you're interested but do have pets already, we would still love to hear from you! The foster homes we need are always changing.

☁️ RAIN’s STORY ☁️ A look behind the scenes of what happens in shelter medicine. Rain came into the shelter with her brand new kittens and during her health check we had noticed something not quite right with her abdomen. She also had a severe temperature and discharge from her vulva. Today, in the late afternoon when our surgery vets were packed up for the day and preparing to see your patients in our consulting rooms they went into life saving emergency surgery. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 ALL HANDS ON DECK 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽 We had two vets and multiple nurses quickly prepping for theatre while Dr. Moraya performed an abdominal ultrasound. Dr. Juliana scrubbed in and started the task of removing whatever it was that was killing Rain. This is what shelter medicine is. It’s surprising. It’s random. It’s exciting, and it’s worth every ounce of stress. Today we saved Rain’s life. Her recovery looks promising and our hope is that Rain is reunited with her kittens soon. This cycle ends here. Quigley’s sore ears - warning, a graphic story! 🙀 Quigley is a kitten who has had ongoing ear infections that just didn’t respond to ear medications. So Quigley was placed under general anaesthetic to flush the infection and investigate whether there was an underlying cause. What we found was absolutely jaw dropping!! 🙀 👀 In the video what was removed is known as a ear polyp! This is a benign growth that some unfortunate cats can be born with, fortunate for Quigley his polyps were surgically removed! No more sore ears Quigley. ❤️ Before and after pictures of Quigley’s ears in comments.
