PECTUS EXCAVATUM isn’t a magic spell - it can seriously impact the lives of kittens before they’re even allowed on the kitchen bench!

For Rudolph & Na’vi, it’s a severe enough case that unfortunately, we’re looking at surgeries of $3,000-$4,000 each to save their lives.

This is a very rare congenital condition that we have somehow managed to find 2 kittens born on opposite ends of Melbourne with it. Rather than euthanising them before the condition worsens and grows their breastbone into their organs, we are choosing to save these babies, so if you’d like to help, please consider dropping a dollar or 2 via the link in the comments.

It's the Pawstralian Open finals, and our kittens are ready for game, set, (and finding their perfect) match!

Beautiful little Dax is so desperate to find his forever home...
He is so sweet and smoochy and cuddly, we don't know how he keeps getting overlooked!

Dax is the only kitten in his litter to survive.
He was born prematurely after his mumma came into our care, and his siblings did not make it more than a few days. His mum was extremely sick and completely shut down. Her body was simply too depleted and she abandoned her kittens after birth. Despite our best efforts, three crossed the rainbow bridge within days (or hours) thereafter.

Dax is our little miracle kitten and he deserves a wonderful home with people who will see how endlessly special he is. Despite his extremely rough start, he has nothing but love for everyone and everything in this world.

🎶 Viola & Kazoo :

In 2022, we received a call from a local resident who said she had a pair of kittens to rehome. The reason? “They’re too old and not cute enough for my friends and family to want them now”.

These babies were only 12 weeks old. Their mama already pregnant again and their siblings already shipped off to other homes, we gladly took them (and mama) into care. Unfortunately, it proved quite difficult for us to find them a home too because they were quite a lot bigger than the smaller sized kittens other rescues were offering. We figure people just didn’t realise that cats grow really fast in the first year? 😹🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

But we persisted because we don’t give up on anyone in our care and Viola & Kazoo were adopted together into the most wonderfully perfect home where they are thriving and being their crazy little selves.

If you’re looking to adopter a younger cat/kitten, remember that while the little ones might look “cute”, that doesn’t last very long and all kittens deserve a chance at a happy, loving home. ❤️

🎈Pennywise:

Penny’s story fills our hearts with so much joy and is an inspiration to anyone who is hesitant to take a chance on a shy kitty.

2 years ago Penny was shut down, wouldn’t stand up around humans, eat around them, or move around them. We advertised him as a shy, porcelain, window cat who would merely exist in your home but we didn’t know if he’d ever truly be part of a family. He would accept pats and was tolerant but clearly just didn’t know what to do around people.

A wonderful human took a chance on him and look at him now! All it takes is patience and time for these cats to learn how to love and trust and we honestly tear up over what could’ve been if we hadn’t have stepped in and given him a chance. His personality just shines! We love him so much and it the absolute epitome of why we do what we do!

Thank you to his very special human who gave him a wonderful home to flourish in and took these AMAZING photos 😹

From humble beginnings….

Today marks Sugar & Spice’s 2 year anniversary of when we first came together and rescued our first cats. It all started with an unwanted Christmas Kitten post on a local Facebook group.

Each day this week we will share stories of our journey - the highs, the lows, the success stories and the struggles.

We went searching for this Christmas kitten and found a bunch of unwanted kittens that someone was kindly taking care of but unfortunately couldn’t vetwork so we stepped in. With other rescues already full to the brim, we did what any (in)sane people would do and started our own! 😹

Boo, Chucky, Vorby, Pennywise, & Kruger were the Friday the 13th cat catch that lead us to where we are now and the 220+ cats we have rehomed I’m sure are forever grateful to them that they let us bring them into care and started us on this journey 💕

Happy Boxing Day!

📦Boxes are very special to cats! They help them feel safe when they feel scared, are also somehow the comfiest beds to ever exist and the best toys on the market! 🎁

So here’s to the spicy cats who use the hidey boxes to feel safe enough to be themselves and the sugary cats who use boxes to snooze in or tear apart - however the mood strikes 💁🏻‍♀️😹

It was such a fun day of kitten shenanigans until they all decided to puddle themselves into a sleep ball 😹

Kittens! Kittens! Kittens! And More Kittens!

These little ones are officially ready for adoption, with more being desexed this Friday!

We have a Christmas Cuddle Day coming up this Sunday at Petbarn in Maribyrnong (near Highpoint) where you can meet all of these adorable little ones, plus some of our adults who need foster or forever homes.

This is called ‘Black Cat Syndrome,’ and it’s thought to come from outdated superstitions about bad luck.
