This little darling is Azura π₯° she is a blue Burmese and is just over one year old. She was in recently so we could have a better look at her teeth while she was anaesthetized (as you can imagine, trying to examine an active young cat's teeth is quite difficult!). She had previously come in for a consultation with Dr Lee and her teeth had appeared..... unusual!
Once anaesthetized, it was confirmed that she had an extra tooth, not just on one side, but an extra one on both sides of her bottom jaw! Dental xrays were taken, so we could get a better look at what was going on under the gum.
As her xrays show, the extra tooth (on one side in particular) is growing sideways, and removing it would be a delicate procedure with a lot of care needed not to damage her other teeth. After consultation with her owner, it was decided to wake her up without removing them, and to refer her (along with her very impressive xrays) to a veterinary dentist in order to gain advice on the best way to proceed. Although nothing much changed for Azura on the day, we gained valuable information to help decide on the best way forward for her and her future dental health.
We loved having Azura stay with us for the day - she loved a cuddle and didn't stop purring!
Can you spot her extra teeth on her xray? π¦·π€
