🐟 Freshwater Species Review! 🐟

The Gold Saum Cichlid is best suited for intermediate aquarists due to it's territorial nature. It can be particularly aggressive when breeding, but if your looking for a cichlid with the typical aggressive attitude, then the gold saum is your fish!

They can be tricky to select appropriate tank mates, but keeping them is certainly worthwhile for their stunning appearance, and they remain highly popular.

They are easy to feed and aren't picky eaters. Feed a good variety of live foods, frozen, and pre-prepared for thriving fish.

Albino Hoplo Catfish! 🐱🐟

Check out our albino hoplo's in a feeding frenzy!

Hoplo catfish are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night. During the day, they tend to hide in caves, under rocks, or in dense plants to rest. When the lights go down, they come out to forage and explore, using their barbels to sense food.

Tank Mate Thursday!

The humble corydoras catfish, accompanied by the stunning Malanda Gold Rainbowfish compliment each other for the perfect busy planted aquarium. While the malanda gold rainbow fish dart about the aquarium at all levels, the corydoras will happily jitter about the bottom of the aquarium. It's best to keep Malanda Gold Rainbow fish with equally peaceful species, and the corydoras is a standout tank mate for this beautiful and less common rainbowfish.

Flame Tetras are striking fish, characterized by their vivid red-orange coloration and deep set bodies. They thrive in well-planted aquariums with soft, acidic water, preferring temperatures between 22-27°C. A 75-liter tank is ideal. Their diet consists of high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live foods. Compatible tank mates include Corydoras, Neon Tetras, and Guppies. These tetra's are best kept in a school and are great for the beginner aquarist looking for a slightly different tetra from the norm.

🐟 Freshwater Species Review! 🐟
Dwarf chain loaches (Ambastaia sidthimunki) thrive in well-maintained aquariums of at least 75 liters. They prefer warmer water (22-26°C) with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.5-7.5). Provide a tank with fine substrate and plenty of hiding spots. These loaches feed on small invertebrates, live foods, and sinking pellets. They are social creatures and should be kept in groups of at least 4 to prevent stress and encourage natural behaviors. Ideal tank mates include peaceful species such as tetras, and rasbora's. We rate these guys as intermediate difficulty due to their preference for a stable and well maintained aquarium.

Tank mate Thursday! 🐟

Kribensis Cichlids and Congo Tetras can be paried for a vibrant community tank. To keep them happy, aim for water temperatures between 24-28°C, with a pH of 6.5-7.5 and hardness around 5-15 dGH. A 100-200L tank is ample, (but bigger is always better), offering enough space and hiding spots for the Kribensis.
Both species love a varied diet, including pellets, flakes, and frozen foods like bloodworms. While the Kribensis prefers the bottom of the tank, the Congo Tetras bring movement and beauty to the mid-to-top levels. With moderate care, these peaceful species can thrive together. Plus, they’re affordable options in the aquarium hobby!

🐟 Freshwater Species Review! 🐟
The Geophagus rio Tapajó, a species native to the Tapajós River in Brazil, is a stunning addition to aquariums. Preferring a spacious tank with soft, slightly acidic water and fine substrate to mimic their natural riverbed environment, they thrive in aquariums of 200 liters or more. Rated as an intermediate species due to their sensitivity to water quality, they enjoy consistent and stable water parameters. These fish are known for their vibrant colors and unique appearance, featuring a sleek, elongated fins with iridescent hues and striking patterns.

They enjoy a varied diet, including high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and earthworms and will be seen sifting the substrate in the search for food. For this reason, they are best suited to an aquarium with decorations that are more difficult to shift with the moving sands!
