🐔 Meet Our Rescue Girls! 🐔

Hey Hairy Hounds Community! Say hello to some of our beautiful rescue chooks, Hedwig, Fang, Mrs Weasley, Ron, Dolores, and Rooster Hagrid. These lucky girls have been rescued from street dumping and battery farms and are now living their best lives.

Their “best life” includes feasting on kale, spinach, bok choy, and other leafy greens—they simply cannot get enough!

🌱 Can You Help?
We’re reaching out to our amazing community to see if you have any of the following to spare:

Silverbeet, kale, spinach, bok choy, or parsley (even plants you’re ready to re-home)

Any outdoor plants to help us enrich their chicken garden and add to the ecosystem.

Cooked veggie scraps or salad scraps (just no avocado, onion, garlic, or citrus, as these are unsafe for chooks). They also LOVE corn & watermelon!

Every little bit helps us keep their garden nourished and our rescue girls happy and healthy.

If you have anything to share, please reach out, we’d love to hear from you!

⛱Top 8 Beach Dangers For Dogs ⛱

1. Heatstroke - Hot sun, hot sand, little shade, a fur coat, and an excited dog is a recipe for heat stroke.
2. Sunburn - Just like us, dogs can get sunburnt, and the most likely places for them to get burnt is their nose, ears, and belly. To prevent your pooch, apply a good quality sunscreen that is safe for animals (not all sunscreens are suitable for pets, especially those with zinc oxide).
3. Salt water - When dogs are hot and thirsty, they can be inclined to drink almost anything, and this includes sea water, drinking a large amount of salt water can cause your pup to become more dehydrated.
4. Sand ingestion - This unfortunately can cause stomach problems for your pup if too much sand has been ingested, as the sand can compact in their stomach and cause a blockage.
5. Hot sand - As a rule of thumb, if the sand is too hot for your feet, then it is too hot for dogs’ paws. Hot sand can cause your pets paws to burn and become very painful.
6. Fishhooks - Unfortunately, due to the strong smell of fish and fish bait, fishhook injuries are not an uncommon beach danger for dogs with fishhooks commonly getting stuck in their mouth, food pipe (oesophagus), stomach or embedded in skin.
7. Jellyfish & Pufferfish - The stingers on the jellyfish can continue reacting for weeks after the jellyfish itself dies (in other words, can still sting even when dead). Although Pufferfish toxicity is one of the rarer dangers seen occur from a trip to the beach, this is also one of the more serious ones, Pufferfish contain a potent neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin and when eaten affects the nerves in animals (and humans) which can lead to paralysis.
8. Dog fights - One of the less talked about dangers but also one of the most common seen in vet clinics after a trip to the beach is dogs’ fight wounds. This can occur in the blink of an eye. Having your dog on a lead or playing at an area of the beach that is a bit more quiet and less crowded.

Pre-Walk Preparation - Be ready for us!!

🐕 Check Equipment: Ensure your dog's collar, harness, and lead are in good condition and secure for the walk.

🚶‍♂️ Hydration: Make sure that your dog water has plenty of water before the walk, especially on warm days, to keep them hydrated.

🩹 Health Check: Let us know if your dog has any injuries, soreness, or health issues that may affect their comfort during the walk.

🌦️ Weather Readiness: Provide coats for cold weather. Be great if you could leave out an extra towel for wet days.

🚪 Access for Pick-Up: Ensure we can easily access your dog for pick-up by leaving gates unlocked or providing any necessary instructions.

During the Walk

🛑 Traffic Awareness: Our team always keeps dogs on leads near roads and high-traffic areas for their safety.

🐕 Leash Manners: Our carers maintain control while allowing your dog some freedom to explore safely.

🐾 Avoid Overexertion: We take breaks if a dog shows signs of fatigue or overheating, such as excessive panting or slowing down.

🦮 Stay Social but Safe: Dogs are carefully supervised during greetings, avoiding interactions with nervous or aggressive dogs.

Post-Walk Care

🧼 Clean Up: We ensure your dog is cleaned up as needed after the walk, removing dirt or debris.

🚰 Rehydrate: Fresh water is always offered to your dog post-walk to help them cool down and stay hydrated.

🔍 Inspect for Issues: We check for ticks, burrs, or small injuries, especially after grassy or wooded walks.

🛋️ Rest Time: Dogs are provided a calm and comfortable space to relax and recover upon return.

Grooming Reminders

🐕 Secure Your Dog: Always have your dog on a secure lead when arriving at the facility. Please, no retractable leads.

🎀 Check the Collar: Ensure collars and harnesses are snug enough to prevent slipping but not too tight.

🚗 Parking Safety: If you're parking nearby, keep your dog secure while opening and closing car doors. Avoid letting them roam freely in the street/grass area.

🩹 Health Update: Let us know if your dog has any new injuries, sensitivities, or behavioural concerns we should be aware of before the groom.

🚶‍♂️ Pre-Groom Toilet Break: Please walk your dog to relieve themselves before drop-off.
Pick-Up Reminders

🔗 Leash Up Before Exiting: Ensure your dog is leashed and under control before stepping out of the facility.

🤗 Calm Exit: Keep your dog calm and close to you, especially if there are other dogs arriving or leaving.

⚠️ Traffic Awareness: Be cautious in the car park or on the street, especially if your dog is excited post-groom.

💤 Monitor for Post-Groom Stress: Some dogs might feel a bit tired or overwhelmed after a grooming session. Offer water and a quiet space to rest if needed.

🔍 Post-Groom Inspection: Check for any signs of irritation or discomfort and let us know immediately if you notice anything unusual.

🎀 Check Accessories: Ensure bows, bandanas, or any other accessories we’ve added are secure and won’t become choking hazards if left unattended.
