A mental health crisis in the veterinary industry is costing lives.
30.6% of veterinarians suffer stress
25.6% of veterinarians suffer from depression
26.4% suffer work-related burnout
Veterinarians have almost four times the su***de rate of the Australian population. This equates to a veterinarian taking their own life on average every 12 weeks in Australia.
Please be kind and respectful, swearing, threats or any act of violence will NOT be tolerated, we are NOT here to be abused.
As veterinary professional we are here to help your animals, and we are here to provide the best possible care for your pets.
We understand that it can be a very stressful time when your pet is sick or injured, and it can be just as stressful for us too caring for your pets, we ask for your patience, we are all in this together.

We’re Proud to Turn Trash into Treasure for Mate's Gift!

Here at Hairy Hounds Community, we're excited to share that we kicked off our bottle & can collection mid Jan, and in just THREE weeks, we’ve already raised $13.40!
It might not sound like much, but here’s what that means for the dogs:

One dog vaccination (C3) = $15.00
One night in a vet hospital = $7.50
$13.40 feeds one dog for THREE weeks!
Parasite control for a month = $30.00
We’re so thrilled to be able to use your donated cans to help provide life-saving care for the pups who need it most. Now, just imagine if everyone pitched in a little, how many more dogs and cats could we help?

So keep bringing those empties by! And stay tuned, we’ll soon have a QR code for anyone who prefers to donate from afar (or maybe just doesn’t want to admit how many bottles they go through at home!). No judgment here, just more funds for the dogs!

Meet Zac - HHPG carer! 🐶
You may know him as our bubbly, expert upside down selfie taker 🙃🤪
You’ll see his friendly face all around HHPG including the yards (having way too much fun), our valet service & walks.
Let’s get to know him a bit more, take it away Zac… 🎤

Q: What’s your favourite part of working at Hairy Hounds?
A: My favourite part about working at Hairy Hounds remains the same as it has for many years working with animals – the joy of fostering wonderful relationships between animals and their parents. Working with humans to help grow that special bond between animal and human and being part of seeing those bonds grow is what it’s all about for me! 👯‍♂️

Q: You were a dog breed, what would you be and why?
A: The more I think about it, the more I believe the Labrador reflects my personality. Silly, goofy, loyal, full of love and wiggles🤪

Q: What’s your go-to karaoke song or guilty pleasure musIc?
A: I feel guilty about NONE of my music – I’ll proudly belt out Kiss From a Rose by Seal or Regulate by Warren G. Throw them all at me for Karaoke! 🎙️

Q: Do you have a pet? If so, tell us something unique about them.
A: This is the first time in 15 years that I actually am not living with any animals. My beautiful Ridgeback-X Jaga passed away from old age last year and my Rainbow Lorikeet now lives in a beautiful country home with many other parrot friends. 🫶🏼
That means that I have to steal (okay fine dog sit) all your dogs this year! 😎

Q: What’s one skill or superpower you have that helps you with the dogs?
A: Super senses. Eyes of a hawk 🦅 ears of a bat 🦇 and the smell of a dog 🐶. When i’m out with all the dogs, developing super sharp senses helps alert you to anything and everything going on!

Q: What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day at Hairy Hounds?
A: time with friends, day trips out to nature and some bird watching. I’m also a massive history nerd and read a lot! 🤓

Dog Matching:
If I were a dog at HH, I’d be Gus the Lab. Gus ticks all the boxes!

Hey Hairy Hounds Community

The lovely Emily, from both HHPG and the Mate's Gift fundraising team, brings us Luna’s incredible story. Luna is a brave and resilient girl who has overcome unimaginable odds, but she still needs our help. Found in dire condition, Luna has fought hard to survive, and with the right care, she has a bright future ahead.

Meet Tess – HHPG Crew Member👋

There’s nothing more magical than spending your day surrounded by beautiful dogs. For Tess, this has been a lifelong passion. After years in the corporate world, she finally took the leap to follow her dream—working with dogs and learning more about these wonderful creatures. Watching them grow and develop is, without a doubt, the most rewarding part of her job.

If Tess were a dog, she’d most likely be a German Shepherd—loyal to a fault, family-oriented, protective, and sometimes a little too energetic for her own good!

Working with dogs always comes with its fair share of surprises, and Tess has had her moments. She’s lost count of how many times she’s been French kissed by an overly affectionate pup, and let’s not even talk about the dreaded poo bag incidents… let’s just say one particularly large mishap left her with a pretty gross hand for most of a walk!

When it comes to music, her go-to anthem is “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” by Shania Twain—a perfect fit for her upbeat and fun-loving personality.

Although she spends her days with dogs, Tess is actually a proud cat mom to two wonderful girls. One of them made the long journey from South Africa to Australia, and the other was a little stray found behind a Macca’s—who quickly stole their hearts and became part of the family.

One of Tess’s greatest strengths is her intuition with dogs. She’s always observing their behaviour, personality, and well-being, even when there’s nothing to worry about. Getting to know them on a deeper level helps her understand what makes each pup tick.

Outside of work, Tess is an avid reader, with her Kindle never too far out of reach. She also enjoys painting—mostly adult paint-by-numbers (no Picasso here, she says!)—and loves taking walks along the beach whenever she gets the chance.

We’re so lucky to have Tess as part of the HHPG crew, bringing her passion, experience, and plenty of laughs along the way! 😻
