How do you achieve the most accurate blood pressure reading possible in a stressful clinical setting? How about bringing your favourite blanket, sitting in an empty reception with mum (instead of the scary consult room) and getting stuck into your favourite peanut butter kong! Minnie was not phased about the blood pressure cuff around her tail and repeated readings so long as she had some great distractions. We were more than happy to accomodate her by moving the reading equipment out into reception. Gold star to Minnie and her mum, Susie, for this stress-free visit.

It’s Deaf Dog Awareness Week! Our nurse Maddie adopted a Border Collie name “Stitch” who was born deaf. She has worked extensively on training him to respond to hand signals instead of verbal commands. Stitch demonstrates perfectly how clever a deaf dog can be, showing off many of his tricks- he can sit, lie down, roll over, spin and shake! Thumbs up is his equivalent of a ‘good boy’ verbal reward.
If you’re a good boy and you know it wag your tail! Wishing you a weekend as happy as George!

Yeeeeouch! This very nasty slab fracture of the carnassial tooth in one of our young, healthy patients was luckily picked up by the vet on a routine check up! The patient was miraculously displaying no obvious symptoms at home, but would have been in pain as the pulp cavity containing the nerve was exposed. A dental under general anaesthetic, local nerve block, splitting of the roots to extract, and some sutures in the gum and we were all fixed up!
This is just ONE reason why it’s so important to have your pet examined by a vet every 6 months

When was the last time you cleaned your dog’s ears? 😱 Dog breeds with “floppy” ears, such as spaniels, oodles and some terriers, are very prone to ear infections. Symptoms such as discharge from the ear canal and odour can be disguised by ears folding over, and ear scratching and head shaking can sometimes be overlooked as normal behaviour. Left untreated, ear infections cause pain, inflammation and even hearing loss. Regular cleaning with dog-specific medicated ear cleaners can be useful in reducing incidence of infection. Ask your vet in consult for a demonstration on how to keep your dog’s ears sparkling clean!
